The contents of this book were not a novelty or some groundbreaking secrets to influencing, but still, the book serves as s good reminder that can never hurt. The author makes great points and supports them with cases that testify to what she is trying to say, although I did find the book to be quite repetitive at times. It was interesting to see the psychology behind transmitting emotions from brain to brain and how emotions (even though we're always told differently) are the main factor when it comes to people's influence. The two main messages I got from the book were: listening is the basis of every influencing skill and that emotion is the motivating factor for everything. It's not a bad read but I wouldn't specifically recommend it.

الكتاب يتكلم عن كيفية تحقيق التأثير المرغوب على الآخرين سواء كانوا زملاء عمل أو مرؤوسين أو غيرهم. محتوى الكتاب مبعثر بعض الشيءوأفكاره غير محددة المعالم وبه إطناب لا داع له. الجزء الوحيد الذي أثار اهتمامي هو مدخل الكتاب في الحديث عن أجزاء المخ وكيفية عملها، وعلاقة ذلك بالانفعالات والقرارت.

I am very torn about this book because it has some good ideas in it but the language is almost childish. The vocabulary is very limited and the word ‘rapport’ is greatly overused. There are also some spelling and grammar mistakes which I wasn’t expecting to find in an edited and published book. It was okay and some of the lessons are helpful but I think I could easily find something better and more enlightening.

This is a neat, short and effective book on how to influence. It mixes ideas of nlp, listening, and emotional intelligence to give some key practices that people can use to increase their influence.

I would say that much of what Nabben writes is common sense, but I enjoyed the little exercises and i am more focused at work on listening to others. It is more of a book on listening but overall a fairly useful book, as long as you don’t expect too much going in.
