Do you like true crime stories? You should love these tales thenOriginally authentic police files, True American Crime Stories are from the 1920s through to the 1950s - the era of gangster, molls and prohibition. Almost (but not quite), lost in the mists of time, these tales romp along with plenty of action and recreate the atmosphere of this exciting and dangerous era using the vernacular of the times. You may not have heard much about some of these bad guys, but they were real, ruthless hoodlums and all had their "15 minutes of fame", leaving trails of death and mayhem behind them. Most did not live to an old age, and those that did were probably in jail.Their escapades were daring and reckless and many paid the ultimate price in the end.Volume 1 contains•The Jekyll and Hyde Mob After a rash of robberies, lawmen of the Los Angeles Sheriff's office had killed off or jailed every gang of bank robbers in the county. However, three suave gentlemen continued to loot the banks in daring fashion, leaving the lawmen completely clueless.•The Whispering Bride Death cast its long, silent shadow over a sleepy New England town as Mrs.Wegner, a widow, waved good-bye to the last of the summer boarders. Little did she realize that she was waving good-bye forever, that death would soon claim her as its victim in the strange case of THE WHISPERING BRIDE.•The Red Bandit The desperation of a hunted man gave Oklahoma its greatest reign of terror when a youth, vowing never to serve a 75 year rap for robbery, set off a series of events that gave the authorities a veritable nightmare as they pursued their quest down the bloody trail of crime.•The Master Forgers Counterfeit checks - hundreds of them - were flooding Milwaukee in 1937 and 1938 until science scored a victory for the law!Order your copy today..!Scroll back up for instant download
Originally from the UK and now based in Thailand, I write internationally focused true crime. My books explore historical murders, bizarre and lesser-known cases, and forensic breakthroughs from around the world.
Across multiple series covering British, American, and global crime, I focus on meticulously researched stories that immerse readers in the setting, investigation, and cultural context behind each case.
If you’re drawn to the darker corners of history and the crimes that refuse to fade quietly, you’re in the right place.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this short book, so I can't say I was disappointed or amazed. It was just . . . okay. The writing was almost newspaper-ish and not story form. While it was neat to read about the police capturing the bad guys, it isn't something I'll read again, nor will I be reading more in the series.
Quite an interesting short book that has taken extracts from other books to give the overall facts or several crimes that went on in America. I hadn't heard of any of these before reading this book so I found them quite interesting but not that interesting as to go and read the books that they originally came from
This was not exactly a bad read, it was not what what I expected. If I had to choose, I would probably say that the "Whispering Bride" was most intriguing. Perhaps other books in this series will be of more interest.
Wow! These were for amazing true crime stories. I loved every Story from beginning to end. Definitely planning on reading more of guy Hadley's books. And, I definitely plan to recommend guys books to all family and friends.
Interesting, audiobook played like stories. Not amazing wish an actual person read it but I was listening to kill some time while doing chores and picking my next serious read. Felt like a true crime podcast
This is a classic true crime book but written along the lines of a story book. I would have preferred just facts. It passed some time though and kept me interested.
The author has provided for your reading enjoyment four more brief but interesting crimes from the past. These were all new to me and ran the gamut from bank robbery and kidnapping to forgery and murder.
Interesting crimes from the past. Showed some ingenuity, on the behalf of the crooks. The good guys did win!!! Found the one with the honeymoon couple fascinating.
