A great second chance at love story where I was convinced of the hero's redemption and the book worked better for me since we as readers were treated to Glory giving birth and freezing Bowie (in Married in Haste) out because of his alcohol dependence and inability hold a job and fighting.
The hero comes back after almost six years away, he has turned his life around, is sober and has a good job and has realized that there would never be a right time to get to know his son. He knows that he did wrong by Glory letting her down and just wants to get along with her and be there for his son. I liked how he went about proving himself to be a better man, acknowledged his mistakes and was patient with his son who never knew him and hence hated him or so he said. Bowie too grew up without his father.
Glory was pregnant with her dead husband's child when Bowie showed up and Bowie helped deliver her daughter. Glory didn't trust him since he hadn't been there. Over the years he had sent money steadily which she had needed but never made any attempt to contact them.
She was the one who had chased Bowie who even six years ago knew that he was too messed up to be right for her, he tried to hold out but couldn't and at first when they got involved he could resist alcohol but the book showed that he was an addict and despite the promises he made her to stop couldn't and needed to hit rock-bottom first and want to work for it. I found Glory a bit harsh but I understood her, she was 19 and pregnant and the man she loved kept breaking his promises so she became strong, refused to marry him and even kicked him out during labor when he came drunk since her son needed to come first.
She even moved ahead marrying her husband who was a great guy and she had loved him but when Bowie comes back she realizes she still has the pull for him and that her love for him was stronger than that she had for her husband and that makes her feel like she cheated her husband. We could see her struggle to not let her bitterness get the best of her and not get involved with Bowie, not that he gave her any signals that he wanted to.
I liked how she hadn't let her husband adopt her son, knowing that Bowie despite his faults was his father. The relationship was driven by Glory and in the end Bowie tells her he wants them not to be a secret but something real and out there and I liked seeing Glory work through what that made her feel.
Solid story about a man who has turned his life around. Whether or not he deserves a second chance will depend on the reader’s perspective. It worked for me.
Trigger warning… alcoholic hero, long separation with no contact with his child.
Very good book. I vaguely remember Bowie from earlier books, and the trouble he would get into. I was glad to see him come back a better man than when he left. I loved the way he was so good with Johnny and able to let him get to know Bowie at his own pace. I thought that his care of Glory - from delivering the baby on forward - was just what she needed. It was low pressure, and gave her the chance to get to know the new Bowie. I understood her skepticism at the beginning, not trusting that he had truly changed. I thought it was an all around good book, with just the right amount of angst on both sides.
Another great Bravo story. Each one is an adventure. The beginning will have you remembering the birth of your children with vivid recollections.
Glory realizes when Bowie returns she has never quit loving him. Yet she is leary of allowing him back in her life. Yet for the sake of his son, Johnny, she does.
I loved reading all about Johnny and his reconnection with his Dad. Christine brings out all the feelings of the characters. The struggles Bowie has, Johnny has, and also Glory.
Everytime I think I've found my favorite Bravo story, Christine does it again. So I'll just say I like them all. You'll feel like as you read each one you are connecting with all the Bravo's.
Well written story that will keep you reading into wee hours. The characters as always seem to comve alive on the pages. Will Glory give Bowie a second chance? Will love win out again? Read and find out.
This is the first book I read in the Bravo series. I loved the storyline. Bowie just got back in town determined to forge a relationship with the son he left behind. His ex, his son's mother was recently widowed and is due to deliver her dead husband's child. Bowie was a drunk, hot headed irresponsible person when he walked away from Glory and his son then. He got his act together and was doing well for himself now. Glory fought her attraction for Bowie, but seeing how he has changed for the better makes her see him in a positive light. Of course the fact that she's always loved him helped. I liked reading about how Bowie's patience with their son Johnny won his little boy's heart over. I teared up when Johnny finally called him "Dad" and I also thought it was cute that Glory's newborn daughter seemed to adore Bowie from the start. You will laugh, you will cry and you will fall in love with the characters. Definitely a book worth reading.
