This book is waayyyyyyyy back to the basics but it's weird because it dives deep into some aspects like financial ratios. Too beginner for me but hey it says it in the title lol

Discusses indexes, mutual funds, financial ratios, portfolio diversification, general buying/selling stocks, etc.

The best take away that I got:
- By calculating 72 divided by the rate of return you can see how many years it'll take to double your investment. For example with a rate of return of 4% it's 72/4 = 18 years

Very easy to read, the equations in it made it more of a complicated read but the way they were displayed kept the easy reading going.

Describes the markets the key words what to look out for and understand.

Great starter for anyone wondering what goes on in the heads of investors.

The steps to create your own plan are simple and to the point. No fluff here.

Simply Outstanding

I've never read a book that makes stock market investing as understanding. The information is broken down and linked to perfection. This is a MUST READ for any beginner.

Not helpful in the slightest. Made me want to give up my pursuit rather than keep going. The information wasn't very well laid out and didn't give you any real idea of the what terminology meant. Could have been written in Arabic for all the help it gave me.

I was hoping for a book that helped me to know what to buy when to buy and when to sell.

This book give a lot of analytical information on what to buy which was a little over my head.

I did learn quite a bit, however and it's worth the quick read.

The info presented in this book is way too scattershot to be of serious use to a beginner.

A good book for the price

Solid basic instructions. I do expect I'll be referring back to this in the future for the guidelines on analysis.

Seems like a good place to start just to have some idea of what questions to ask. Short read, worth the time.

I enjoyed this book. I've been reading (at least attempting) multiple other investing books. They start off good, but quickly become too technical. This book is much simpler. It's like having a handy Q & A book on what to do. It wont tell you everything, but it is a nice introduction to investing. It gives you a sense of the concepts and the whys behind each action.

If you're looking for a serious and thorough how-to guide, this isn't it. If you're clueless about investing and need a place to start, then this is a good book for you.

I do recommend taking the book slowly. This way you have time to absorb each of the chapters. And keep it handy for reference. There are some concepts that kept going over my head. I'm already planning to re-read this to fully understand the concepts.

Very clear, up to date, relevant and useful info in this book. Will teach you how to analyze a stock to determine if it looks like a good investment or not. Also briefly mentions some other investment avenues such as bonds and real estate. Has a few convenient tables and equations that will help you plan out your savings or retirement goals and gives you an idea of what kind of results you can expect from your investments. Covers a lot of basic terminology and basically gives step by step (or click by click) instructions on how to do stock analysis and invest.

It's safe to say that After reading this book you can go from non-investor to a beginner in less than a day!

It’s not a long book, yet it can feel really dense, particularly the sections that walked through calculation after calculation.

While I came away with more knowledge about the stock market than when I began, I forgot a lot of it, despite highlighting and taking some notes throughout. There are a lot of math formulas needed to inform investing, which I understand, but the author is making the assumption that the reader will just get it.

I would have enjoyed the book more if it had went beyond tables and formulas and taken a more human approach in the writing.

It's very technical and I cannot understand quite a number! This book is really good though, delving on the specifics of stocks and all you need to know about it. With my nose bleeding and my head aching, it's kinda hard for me to maximize learning!
Really recommended to those who wants to read about the mechanics in stocks.

For someone who knows nothing about stocks, I didn't find anything other than terms to be particularly useful. I found myself asking more questions than I found myself getting answers.

Tycho's Stock Market Investing for Beginners is just that. An excellent, informative entrance for beginners entering the stock market. It's too easy to suck into finance books that promise knowledge, by this title explains the basics, and how to begin building an investment strategy. The best part of this book is that it explains that you're not just investing your money, but also your time, because managing a portfolio takes time. They let you know it shouldn't take your entire day, but it does take some of it, and it's necessary, like anything worth investing in. The processes explained for valuation are basic, and give you an idea of where to start when looking for investment opportunities. It also informs that from there, as you build your knowledge, you'll start finding more ways to evaluate stocks, and build better tools for yourself. I highly recommend this title as your starting point if you're entering into stock investing.

Thank you goodreads for sending me this book. It's fairly concise and gives you a good starting point for picking stocks and investing. Some people enjoy this for a hobby but I'm not one of them. Dislike the research and the math.

Good book!

I think it was great was great info. Some info was overwhelming and might require reading twice. I thought the chapter on retirement was most useful.
