I remember one of the cross-country coaches at my high school once had us be quiet for the last 15 minutes of the bus ride to meets so we could visualize our upcoming race. I swear to gods it helped improve my time, as well as helped cut down on the pre-race jitters I would get.
I've been curious lately about guided imagery as a way to improve all forms of health and behavior. I was listening to one of Naparstek's CDs while falling asleep, and I did feel like it deepened my sleep, at least at first. I found her voice calming and nurturing.
This one has guided imagery scripts for a wide range of topics - allergies, healthy boundaries, grief, cardiovascular health. I only wish it came with a CD of her reading it, because I don't like the idea of listening to my own recorded voice.
