Shark Attacks: Terrifying True Accounts Of Shark Attacks Worldwide

Rate this book
More horrifying than Jaws --because it's true! Believe it or not, shark attacks are still a very real threat to humans. These unspeakably bloody encounters happen in shallow water, in "safe" areas, to people just like you--people who thought it could never happen to them. HONG A forty-five-year-old woman swimming in shallow water with fifty other people has one leg and one arm ripped off by a shark--she dies before reaching the hospital. A man snorkeling with friends is swallowed headfirst halfway down his body-- luckily, the shark spits him back out with only bite wounds. A professional diver and mother of five is literally torn in half in front of her horrified family by a fifteen-foot great white shark. Two vacationing friends out for a swim suddenly see a shark "the size of a car" swim by. After one of the women begins thrashing in panic, the shark attacks and kills her-- her body is later recovered with several limbs missing. Read on for more blood-chilling accounts of people who fell prey to...SHARK ATTACKS. Includes horrifying photos!

Exactly what I was looking for, exceeded my expectations and then some. The entire book is just a carefully organized collection of shark attack stories pulled from various news sources around the world. Some stories can be barely half of a page, while others go as long as three to four pages, but usually nothing past that. Don't go into this book looking for cleverly worded short stories about sharks or shark attacks, these are usually pulled directly from newspaper articles, no mincing of words or anything like that, everything is straightforward and to the point. However, if you're interested in that sort of thing, this is exactly what you're looking for.

This was just a collection of articles - not quite what I was expecting.
Besides, all the articles call the sharks "killer sharks" or "man-eaters".
I realize the articles are old and this mindset was prevalent then, but it just reinforces negative thinking about these creatures. They are fish - not master schemers. Whilst they may be predators, and in fairness both beautiful and frightening, they are not evil.

This is my second time reading this. The first was back in the late 90’s when it was first published. It’s the first book I can remember my Aunt Sue giving me, and the first book I can remember truly striking fear inside me! It’s definitely a bit dated, now, considering the shark attacks that are covered end in 1999 but still an interesting quick read!

This makes for a very interesting read, and quite a scary one as well. Unless it's fiction it's hard to read a book like this with the notion of sheer entertainment in mind, and there are moments that seem to go for entertainment value, one of the only elements of this book I didn't like. I like how the stories were collected and arranged. It begins to make a little terrified of sharks, as well as a little terrified of open water. Even though I've always liked and somewhat appreciated sharks before.

This is not what I thought the book was going to be. I wish I would have opened it and skimmed before buying because I was surprised to have found it’s a compilation of news articles of these incidents and attacks.

All in all though, I did find a few of the articles did connect me with other literature about these accounts so I am excited about bridging and learning more about those stories further.

The book is an easy read. Since it is a bunch of articles and small content passages, you can burn through it pretty quickly.

Well, It does what it says on the tin. I only gave it a 3 because reading a book devoted to shark attacks is weird enough without reviewing it as amazing. Which it kinda is.

I had to lay this aside since I have a time limit on library books to get done and this is one I own. I have had it waiting on a shelf for awhile and when I could not get to the library and had "nothing" really to read for a challenge, I started it. A Very good book and a different respite from my usual favorite genre. The only thing I did not care for is as a few great reviews mentioned: Is that the stories were rather late behind in history; they ranged from a couple prior to 120 and up to a handful in 1990's. they were not up to date. I still loved the character of those attacked and those that were heroic in helping. They were motivating and inspiring. A lot did not make it, but many did and especially the one who said he was a better person for having it happened made me think, "What do I have to moan about?"
