Painting is poetry to be seen and not heard, poetry is painting to be heard and not seen. Now it follows that these two poetries or two paintings, as you wish, have exchanged the senses they use to penetrate the intellect.

If you are looking for a detailed reference book about Renaissance, this is not for you. But it is pretty good for an overall look at the era since it has good and various visual examples of architecture, sculptures and paintings. Could be a nice coffee table book to randomly flip through when you feel like it.
