All he has to do is sacrifice everything he has ever stood for. Can he keep Kirian safe in a land where women are kept hidden and restricted? Can he even protect her from his own dangerous magery? Color Mage creates a fascinating world, where lords of magic are "collared" and enslaved to their king. The story centers on a young man of noble blood, but illegitimate birth, named Callo, and a young woman, just out of the healers' college, named Kirian. They are swept up in intrigues and forced to flee their country for even more dangerous environs. With the aid of Kirian and his faithful servant, Chiss, Callo struggles with the magic that is part of his heritage, but has not yet learned to control. This potential power causes Callo to be both feared and a sought-after commodity.

Imagine my surprise when I began reading this ebook series, only to discover I'd won the physical books prior and had forgotten about them. Very embarrassing, but I can assure you, they're mighty adventurous and perfectly written. Anne Marie Lutz's Color Mage series is for YA readers to age 99!

Color Mage is the story of Callo and Kirian, both on the run from a collared warlord with a penchant for magical vengeance. Seeking a place of adventure, as well as their safety, they venture to a land filled more with mystery.

Callo discovers his identity that conflicts with what he's grown up with, and Kirian discovers the grass isn't greener than the pasture she'd run from.

Anne Marie Lutz tells a story of deception, manipulation and the mistreatment of a good man. You watch Lord Call deal with his illegitimate roots, yet still manages to stand taller than most men of royalty. Kirian is written as an intelligent young lady with dreams of being the best she can be, but loyalty and a slightly damaged friendship can easily carry her to ruin.

Color Mage surprised me. Though the cover doesn't give the story justice, the pages are filled with words that encourage bravery, respect and a love for the thrill. Not one part of this book is boring or lost. It's written to be easy for any reader and loaded with excitement that had me diving from one book to the next!
