The Occurrence #1

Cowgirl Omega

Rate this book
She hired the alphas for protection.
But can they protect her from themselves?

Shannon Duffy has a secret. She’s an omega. And in the wild west of 1888, an omega is a dangerous thing to be. For fifteen years, Shannon’s kept her true identity hidden, but now if she wants to save her family ranch from ruin, she’s going to have to lay it all on the line.

There’s treasure hidden in the desert, and Shannon knows how to get it. There’s just one problem. She’s going to need protection, and the only men up to the task are the very monsters she’s spent her entire life running from.

Alphas.

Of all the creatures spawned by the Occurrence, alphas are the most dangerous. Brutal, dominating beasts with bodies as hard and hot as desert rocks, and eyes as cold and deadly as the steel they carry on their hips.

The alphas are Shannon’s only hope for finding the treasure and saving her ranch. But if they discover her secret, they may not be able to protect her from their own primal urges.

And she may not want them to.

Cowgirl Omega is a sci-fi why-choose adventure set in an alternate old west populated by all sorts of mythical critters and mutant dangers. It is a complete standalone romance with an HEA guaranteed!

*3.5* This was so ridiculous and fun.

Western/Syfy/reverse harem
No sword crossing
DP, DVP
Knotting, purring, growling
HEA with two epilogues

Something happened in 1849…

To this day, nobody knew exactly what had happened. They only knew that every single man, woman, and child from the Pacific to the Hundredth Meridian had just up and fainted. Animals too.

Soon after, unique creatures started appearing. Alpha/beta/omega humans, hucows, harpies, minotaur, centaurs, werewolves/skin walkers, and snake people, just to name a few.

The h owns a hucow ranch, employing over 500 rescued hucows. They are described as ‘voluptuous women with wide, bovine ears and stubby horns protruding from the front of their heads.’

One Omega and three Alphas, with all the kinks you’d expect to find in a story like this. Bequin has a knack of writing cheesy fun stories with heart and steam.

“That’s it,” Tanner whispered, his soft lips right against her ear now. “Show us how a cowgirl omega comes.”

Happy reading!

Queen Lizzy does it again! I finished this book in two sittings and I'm eager to see where she takes this series. I do have trouble distinguishing between her other omegaverse series because they're similar in premise, but this was a pleasant departure from her usual storylines. Part fantasy, adventure, western, action, dystopian, science-fiction-- all enjoyable.

Set on a dystopian Earth where A/B/Os are shunned and afforded less rights, Shannon Duffy (FMC) must keep her omega status hidden in order to preserve her father's ranch and the women that rely on her protection (shades of Tender Is The Flesh?). She's strong and likeable, always used to thinking about others rather than herself. Shannon does what she must to keep its ownership and this leads to the recruitment of the three MMCs. Tanner, Logan, and Rufus all have distressing backstories (Shannon included) from growing up as alphas and their subjugation, and it's these circumstances that leads them to each other. As the characters intertwine, the plot and intrigue ramp up.

What LB does really well is keeping her MMCs all separate, my biggest gripe with many reverse harem books is that the male characters either don't have different characterizations or that they all feel like part of one character. LB manages to always keep her male characters distinctive and as real characters that are not interchangeable.

The spicy scenes were incredibly sexy, they were graphic and plentiful. Although less kinky than her usual books... and this book had two DP scenes, so that gives you an idea of what her smut is like. The omegaverse tropes are enjoyable with her writing; a little sardonic, but always delicious. I definitely recommend this book if you're looking for something fun and fast-paced.

Hell yeah!!! Been waiting for this!

Save a horse and ride some cowboys AND their Knots!! Yee Haw

Okay so my new crack is a protective alpha cowboy with nice manners while also being a smutty dirty talker...oh and spanker. We cannot forget the spanking. LOL

So Lizzy did a great job of marrying the 1880's Southwest with SFR and fantasy. There are crazy creatures and some technology with the hardships and culture of the wild west.

Shannon was a tough cookie Hucow ranch owner but also an omega in hiding. Her ranch which is mostly a sanctuary for Hucows is in danger after her father's death. She needs to hire some muscle to protect her while she goes on a treasure hunt to save the ranch.

Enter Tanner and Logan. Sexy as sin alphas, brothers by choice. They are free wheeling, go where the wind blows 'em, picking up work where it comes.

There's also another mysterious figure, who seems hell bent on protecting Shannon as well.

This was actually a lot lighter than some of LB's series. Though there were still cute sarcastic puns and plays with the wild west themes and culture. And just like with all her crazy world building everything was just done up a SFR notch. There were not just snakes but Naga like snakemen. There weren't just normal Indians to worry about in the desert but Indian like Centaurs. Of course, there's a greedy backstabbing villain working against Shannon too!

All in all, this was a fun light read but don't get it twisted, when it comes to Lizzy there was also a lot of Alpha/omega smut. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for a story including one of them thare Centaurs!!

4.5 smut-scale stars!

Lizzy Bequin...you never fail to bring the unique and ALL the steam. Was this a Western historical? Fantasy? Omegaverse? Sci-fi? All of the above? Yes, yes it was...and I loved it.

Shannon Duffy is an Omega but keeps her dynamic hidden because being an Omega doesn't offer much autonomy in the eyes of the government and she doesn't want to lose her father's ranch. When problems arise, she must hire someone for protection to get somewhere her father used to go.

Tanner and Logan step up to help Shannon but it isn't long before Shannon loses her suppressant and a heat comes on around the two strong Alphas. Even luckier, another Alpha has been watching and protecting her and he too joins the pack. Rufus is a wolf and can shift into a man and these three Alphas want to worship and protect their stunning Omega.

Action, suspense, bad guys and knotting OH MY. This story had it all. It was super steamy and super fun to read. Shannon was a genuine character with a lot of heart and I really liked her. Tanner, Logan and Rufus each had distinct personalities and unique backgrounds. I loved the chemistry between them. Overall, I really enjoyed this and can't wait to see what's next in this world.

Okay Lizzy... you threw me a little off kilter with this one... I think it's partly to do with the fact I still had Voss(Breed) and Rogar(The Alien Warrior's Bounty) on my mind.. Not to mention the males from Alien Shadow Market as well.... So to say this one started off weird and slow to me, would be an understatement... BUT by chapter 9 or 10 things picked up in an awesome way for me and kept getting better as the story progressed.. Very strange happenings here. With some hotness thrown in there🥵🥵

I do love that this story/world is an 18th century western/Alien sci-fi tale.. Never read one like this before.

This 1st book in this series goes over what caused the Occurrence to happen.. The way Shannon and her Alphas find this out, is weird but very interesting..

This story surrounding the plight of Omega Shannon and her Alpha mates, Tanner, Logan, and Alpha shifter, Rufus is overall a good book. My fave chapters were a few towards the middle of the book & chapters 38, 39, and the two Epilogues... This book has over 40 chapters and Two Epilogues, but it's a very quick read.

I am very interested in the Hucows and their compatible mates, the Minotaurs.. These two species were mentioned alot in this first book. So book 2, I will definitely be back here for it. Since it will cover a Hucow's tale.

As always Lizzy surprised me. Even though I was a little scared about how I would come out on the other side with this one. I'm still glad I stuck with it.😍😍

Though I liked Tanner, I must say.. Logan and Rufus are my males🥰😍🥵

If you're a fan of Lizzy Bequin's unique brain and brand of writing, or if you're just curious about this one, I would recommend this read.

4.2 stars.
It was hot.
But I feel like, since she already added a bunch of science fiction to the time period, she could have made it an even more complete switch and just left out calling Native Americans ‘Indians’ and having the villains spout nasty shit about Logan because of his heritage…🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe that’s just me. I feel like maybe she used that as a sort of crutch to make you feel like you were in the 1800s, when in reality everything else about the book did that just fine.
I don’t know. I just know it made me cringe every time I read it.

Other than that, I thought it was a pretty ok book.
I liked the little bit of sci-fi thrown in here and there, and the hybrids and creatures. That was fun.
Plus the ‘omega’ ‘alpha’ bit of it all was hot. I kind of missed the usual ‘nesting’ you get with omegas in most books, but I’ve read her other omegaverse books and they didn’t have that either so. It’s just not something she likes adding, I guess.

It was ok. It was an enjoyable read overall.
Not a favorite, but definitely not a bad book.

I love Lizzy and her delectable imagination! I’m always a fan of her delicious romps! This one was a good hucow story that had good characters and was a lovely mix of spice and story! I have never read a fantasy/monster/western/erotica, but she did a decent job with this one!

This story was a unique twist on omegaverse in a historical-fantasy-steampunk-sci-fi setting. There were aspects I liked in this slow-burn reverse harem, but I really couldn’t connect to the characters. I would’ve loved a little more angst and conflict. It was entertaining.

When i first saw the title with cowgirl i was a bit apprehensive because im not into country. But dear Lizzy has really turned this book into a excellent story with her own brand and style of unique writing. It just goes to show she has serious writing skills in my opinion. I just love her Alphas and Omegas and the erotic dance they have.

Shannon is looking for someone to escort her up into the mountains, as she needs some fireore to help save the ranch. With her father dead she has the map in her head. She ends up with Logan, Tanner and a Red wolf that shifts into a man to help protect her, but along the way she looses her exlir that helps dull her omega down, and soon she needs the men to help her omega and the urges she has. However they are not alone in the trek up the mountains, they have people hunting them following them wanting the same thing she is after.

I loved this story because not only is it a great story it also has a wonderful twist to it. A great read and im sure you will all love this.

Shannon (h) keeps her omega nature hidden in a dangerous alternate Old West society where omegas are considered dangerous and have limited rights. Her primary concern is saving her family ranch from ruin and Shannon embarks on a journey to find hidden treasure in the desert. She enlists the help of alphas, Tanner (H), Logan (H) , and Rufus (H), even though alphas are considered dangerous, dominant beings. Despite the risk they pose, Shannon needs their protection to navigate the dangers of the wild west and find the treasure. However, her interactions with these alphas lead to unexpected developments and a complicated romantic dynamic coupled with plenty of hot and steamy Omegaverse interactions. A slow-burn blend of the Old West and sci-fi omegaverse with intricate relationships, plenty of heat and Omegaverse dynamics, unusual beings, adventure and action.

The story started off slow for me but then drew me in. I loved Lizzy's take on Alphas and omegas and then making it a western setting made it perfect. This world has such fantastical creatures and I just love the imagination behind the story. I especially liked how the story went for the bad guy's lol. I look forward to reading more omegaverse stories from this author.

I’m giving this 3 1/2 stars. It’s not that it wasn’t a good story overall, although I felt it moved a little slow in the beginning and took me awhile to pull me in. It may be that I had just come away from reading the Quarantine Omega series and Alien Warriors Bounty (both rated 5 stars by me) that had my expectations set too high. Give this one a try, though, especially if you like stories set in the Old West time period.

Surprising good

This book is not like the authors smithy work. There is sex, spice scenes. But a lot of world building. Depth to the characters. Back story, plot. I really enjoyed it. I hope there is a next book. No cliff hanger but love to read more about the world

Loved it. I'm becoming quite the fan of Lizzy Bequin and her wild imagination.

This book is steam punk, sci fi set in an alternate past in the American West. In 1849, there is The Occurrence an event that happens to cause genetic mutations to a lot of species-- some humans formed into the alpha/beta/omega caste, hucows were created (human cows, yes, but more human with sentience. Their breast milk is most valuable), there's centaurs and snake people. Which got me wondering what happened?

The story opens about forty years after The Occurrence with Miss Shannon Duffy trying to save her ranch and all the hucows under her care. Hucows sound so darn adorable, I'd have to fight for them too. Her debtor, Ned Flarity is a classic villain caring only about his own gain. He's one to tie a lady to the train tracks while twirling his handlebar mustache.

Miss Duffy wants to get out from under Ned, and she is looking to hire the help of someone to recover valuable firestone ore to pay off her debt. She has the treasure map in her head, thanks to her father's instruction. The first alpha she runs into, Tanner McBain the tall cowboy that sets her thoughts down a naughty path is definitely a no.

Tanner is attracted to her from the get go and is happy she's a beta because boy, if she were an omega...

Shannon is an omega, and has to keep that hidden because in the society she lives in omegas are lower than the hucows. She wouldn't be able to keep the ranch if anyone knew she was an omega. When Tanner expresses interest in sharing her with his friend for a night, she high tails out of there after slapping him. She's not offended, but frightened with all the warm and wet ways that makes her feel. No way can she be around this alpha, let alone two of them. She'd end up throwing all she's fighting for in the garbage if anyone ever found out. Great conflict. She's not hiring Tanner or his blood brother... no way...

Tanner's not gonna give up easily, though.

The person Shannon hired as a guide was a dirty rapist, dispatched and dismembered by a mysterious red wolf. Tanner and his blood brother Logan catch up with Shannon shortly thereafter.

I thought for a moment that the red wolf was either Logan or Tanner, but if you count the buff naked man chests on the cover, there are three. Rufus is the red wolf and had sworn to Shannon's father that he would protect her. So, starts the adventure across the desert...

There is a lot of spice in this book, and that's fun. The characters are cute as all get out. I loved the mixture of science with the old American west. It's different, and uniquely Lizzy. I always enjoy her stories, and I hope to read more Occurrence books in the future.

I've read lots of different Alpha/Omega book but this is the first of Lizzy Bequin's books and I can't wait to read more.
Usually alpha and Omega books are ones Omegas are matched to a pack and anything that goes good or bad with the storyline. But Lizzy has had a completely original idea that is so well thought out it will be a book I read over and over and hoping for book 2.
It's set during the 1840's in Arizona at the time of Gold and Prospectors and something strange has occured and as a result of this there are now Alpha's who are strong and powerful, Omegas who aren't treated well and aren't allowed to own any property.
But there's also Hucows and Centaurs which are half human and half animal.
The book starts with Miss Shannon Duffy (a Omega in hiding using surpressent) she is in Dire need to get some money for the Hucow ranch her father left her. Only thing if they found out she was an Omega she'd loose everything. But her Father held a secret map leading to a mine of "firestone" (which is strong fuel result that has shown up at the time of the event) and she needs some men who can ride and shoot to keep her safe to the mine. Along come Tanner McBain and Logan Sumnerhill who are you typical strong sexy Alpha's, but with Miss Duffy taking the elixir over 15rs and needing more, she know its a big risk but she needs their help.
Will Miss Duffy be able to meet his demands for helping her or will she look else where. Her Ranch and secret hidden Omega statist need to stay hidden but she needs their help in order to keep the ranch. But there's also a red wolf following is he dangerous or is there to protect not harm her.
This book is a must to find out where all these things go as well as other twist and turns ups and downs. Keep you guessing.
It's a great plot finding out why they all exist, will they all find a path to happiness.
This book had me laughing out loud and then had me hotter than the Arizona Desert where the book is set.
You have good to bad cow boys and even a few evil ones. But you also have brave muscular Alpha's ready to protect Miss Duffy and there's the strange red wolf keeping her safe as well.
This book needs so much more than 5 stars and any person who loves Alpha books has to read this clever written Story.
Great job Lizzy ❤️

This book was a fun twist between historical and fantasy, overlayed with omegaverse. It has an Old West setting that is altered by The Occurrence.

Our heroine, Shannon, owns a ranch that she inherited from her adopted father, and if anyone ever finds out she’s an omega, she will forfeit the ranch since omegas have even less rights than the commodified beings that she provides a sanctuary for. That being said, I do have issues with the subject of sentient beings traded as a commodity, their by-product being sold with no input by them but for the profit of their owners. It’s an ethical dilemma that was broached in the film, Schindler’s List, do you use the resources in your possession to try to help as many people as you can, or do you use your resources to try to buck the system? Everyone has to decide for themselves what they can live with and be thankful for the privilege of having that decision.

I loved the heroes in this book. Tanner and Logan are alphas with a similar past incident necessitating them striking out on their own. When they meet and neither can best the other, they decide to join forces and become brothers. Our third hero I don’t want to spoil, but he is just a lovely protective alpha sworn to protect Shannon. They rescue Shannon from a bad situation, then all three come to Shannon’s aid when she needs it…repeatedly. 😉

Being Omegaverse, there’s dominance at play, also since the omega goes into heat, there’s dubious consent, but these matings are hot! Since Shannon’s been suppressing her heats for years, when she finally does succumb to one, it takes all three alphas to quench it.

Burn: 🔥🔥🔥
Ending: HEA
POV: multiple
I loved this book. I have read many omegaverse stories. The concept of the cause of the omegaverse changes in this paranormal version of the old west is fun and unique. As are the many creatures besides alphas and omegas that occurred because of it. I am not normally a fan of "westerns" but this steampunk sort of old west with sexy alpha cowboys was just amazing. The steamy times were so very hot and all the omegaverse goodies including knotting and purring. The FMC is a take-no-nonsense girl, which is grand to see in an omega. I would have loved to have even further development for the alphas, but just because I loved them so much. No crossed swords (not that I would have minded). I will for sure look for more from this author and would recommend her to anyone who enjoys OV or RH stories.

My goodreads shelves might be considered spoilers, so look at your own risk!

Book one in what appears to be a new series by author Lizzy Bequin is a slow burn omegaverse story about Shannon who has been keeping her omega status a secret for many years. She is being bullied by a wealthy landowner who is using trickery to obtain the ranch Shannon inherited when her father died. But omegas aren't allowed to own land - therefore the reason she is keeping her secret. But during a trip into the wildness of the 1888 wild west and accompanied by two human alphas and a wolf shifter alpha her secret is accidently exposed. So what will her three travel companions do and what about the large group following them? What happens when they are faced with the horrors of vicious wild creatures threatening their very lives?
This story is a slow burn one, but it has to be. I thoroughly enjoyed the latest release from Lizzy Bequin. Having read all of her previous books this one was equally as enjoyable even though totally different from anything she has written before. She is the ultimate storyteller and I highly recommend any story with her name on the front cover.

Cowgirl Omega (The Occurrence Book 1)
by Lizzy Bequin

This is a steaming hot steampunk omegaverse taking place in an alternate sci-fi old wild west. The Occurrence is reminiscent of the TV show The Nevers and the world here is vast with many varied characters – hucows, centaurs, snakepeople, harpies. It was almost too much. Maybe a hucow or centaur will feature as a main character in later books in the series I would not mind that. Here omega Shannon and her alphas Tanner, Logan, and my favourite Rufus are great main characters. The sharing, knotting, and mating are hot as heck. The villains are dealt with very satisfactorily and we get two follow up epilogues with a look at their HEA. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

TW/CW from author’s website: attempted rape, dubcon, spanking, biting/marking, explicit violence and gore.

As I started this story, I was surprised to see the wild west and air ships. It took me a while to understand the world. If you have read the quarantine omega series, it is similar with the omega and alphas, but the world was changed in different ways in this series. It was interesting to explore the differences. I enjoyed how they were revealed. World is similar in the danger of being an omega on her own.

I could almost hear the spurs as the characters walked. The wild west was well represented In the story.

I loved the connection/spark the characters had on their first meeting. While bumpy, knew there something special there. Not just for any alpha.

Story provided a wild ride that I couldn't put down. Looking forward to more.

This was a great read but im not a fan of the older days where men rule over woman and they have no rights but other than that is was very enjoyable. Shannon Duffy inherited her father ranch but she is an omega and if her secret gets out she loses everything but the ranch is in trouble and she needs to find the treasure hidden in the desert and needs help in finding it but asking the man Tanner who she has a voided while suppressing her true nature. Tanner is an alpha that’s has wonder about Shannon and Logan just wants to make her happy and Rufus is the gentle and sweet and is devoted to her and finding out she is an omega brings them together and there hot and steamy times are very hot but how does it all turn out in the end.

I would have preferred it as a novella. It's set in the old west, and the FMC is taking a suppressant potion to hide the fact she's an omega. There was an event known as The Occurrence 40 years ago or whenever, and afterward omegas and alphas emerged as gene mutations or something (along with centaurs, snake people, minotaurs, etc). Omegas are considered property so the FMC hides what she is so she doesn't lose her family ranch. Then she embarks on a treasure hunt to gather some ore hidden in the mountains (like in the movie Holes), and she hires a couple of alphas to help her get there. Various things go awry and they of course discover she's an omega along the way. They end up mated in the end and they get to keep the ranch.
I feel like I'm already starting to get forget the other details and I literally just read the book, so 🤷‍♀️

A Wonderful Tale

I should start off by saying that normally I'm not a fan of the old western stories. Tales of the Wild West, Life on the Plains and such never interested me. That being said, this story surprised and delighted me. It's got a little bit of everything. It's an Omegaverse story that comes with the erotic scenes you expect, but it's got a full creative storyline that spans through so much more than just passion. Think.. Gold Rush meets Percy Jackson mixed with Twilight, a dash of Best Little Whorehouse In Texas and topped off with something from the Sci-fi Channel... All mixed together into a well written and interesting tale full of action, adventure, passion and drama. This book is a wonderful read. I highly recommend it to fans of Supernatural Romance, Omegaverse, Western and Science Fiction stories.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Shannon Duffy who is an omega, who because of the laws of the land regarding omega’s not allowed to own land and not be allowed to remain single, was doing exactly that since the death of her father. She finds herself in some serious danger until Rufus Redwolf comes to rescue her and Tanner McBain and his brother Logan Summerhill also save her. They are on a mission to find Firestone which will help them to financially be independent. They soon find that there is something more in the mountain which then leaves them to become mated and to live happily ever after. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

I seriously adore this author. I really don’t think they’ve written a book I didn’t enjoy. When I saw this release announced in their newsletter, I can honestly say I say up with the intensity and internet of a bird bog pointing at all the ducks. (Silly analogy I know, but that’s how it felt.

Omegaverse + an historical angle! What I didn’t see coming was the sci-fi/ fantasy and it was delicious. I don’t know why, Lizzy Bequin has been a go-to sci-fi author for me, for years. Genre mashups are my catnip.

This author can write STEAM. Create worlds, develop characters and write a storyline that keeps me flipping those pages and following this author. This was a great read and I can already feel a re-read brewing.

Been reading this book on and off for the last 2 weeks.

So, the Occurrence took place and animals and humans intermixed. This I found to be weird. Weird in the fact that imagine a cow just randomly giving birth to a hucow one day out of the blue. Or the horses and the centaurs. I think if it was more of a monster romance, that is hucows, centaurs and snake people were actual beings and not evolved from animals, that would have made me not cringe laugh at the books dynamics.

I felt the story was unnecessarily long as well but I think it may be because this seems to be a setup for future books in the series.

In conclusion, didn't hate it, lost most of my interest in the middle bits, a mash of historical western, paranormal and sci-fi.
