Me & Moe

Sarcastic and witty, 29-year-old Alexandria Swanson is working her way up the on-air radio chain at a political talk radio station in San Francisco; when a New York media giant buys the station and turns it into a Top 40 Music format. In order to keep her job, Alex is shoved into the middays program as the resident dating expert.
There’s just one problem, Alex still lives with her grandparents, and her dating life is pathetic. She enlists the help of her celebrity-obsessed Grandma Moe and her ex-military Grandpa to teach her about dating. Her
hilarious, poor-sport attitude makes station ratings fly off the charts, as her morals fly out the window. Alex is soon forced to explore her own tragic past as she wades through her fears of falling in love.

Dr. Michaela Renee Johnson (@skytalkdoc) is an Amazon best-selling author in self-help and relationships, commercial seaplane and vintage warbird pilot, and unapologetic truth-teller helping people break free from the beliefs that sabotage their lives. With over 15 years of experience as a couples therapist, Michaela specializes in decoding the hidden patterns—what she calls Primal Wounds—that drive our deepest relationship struggles.

She’s read over 500 self-help books so you don’t have to, distilling timeless wisdom and cutting-edge neuroscience into a powerful framework for relational transformation. Her unique blend of clinical expertise, spiritual depth, and no-fluff storytelling has helped hundreds of individuals and couples find clarity, connection, and confidence—in love and in life. Her top iTunes podcast SkyTalkDoc inspires listeners to embrace authenticity, navigate relationships with clarity, and live boldly.

Michaela’s own story is anything but linear. A former overachiever turned grounded rebel, she’s navigated everything from emergency landings to psychological warfare. Raised in a 27-foot trailer with no running water or electricity, she went on to run multimillion-dollar businesses and fly vintage warbirds (yes, for real). She now uses her lived experience to connect with readers and clients who are ready to get real—and soar.

When she’s not writing or coaching, you’ll find Michaela (and Commander) flying float planes from Central America to Alaska, watercoloring, geeking out on health hacks, hiking with her dog Walter, and navigating life’s turbulence with humor and heart. But what she enjoys most is spending time with her house full of boys (fave title: mom).

Michaela believes thriving relationships begin with the idea that you’re not broken—you’re actually working very well. And she’s here to hand you the permission slip to get naked (metaphorically, but hey—your call).

Me & Moe by Michaela Renee Johnson is a self published novel released in 2013. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Alex was orphaned as child when her parents were killed in a car accident. Her grandparents raised her in San Francisco. Grandma "Moe" and Grandpa are still spry and involved in Alex's life since Alex still lives at home.
Alex is employed by a local radio station. This is a just a stepping stone for what Alex hopes will be a long serious journalism career. She wants to be in war zones and doing the really gritty stuff. But, fate has other plans. The radio station merges with a larger one based in New York and now play top forty music.
To stir up publicity, Alex has to change time slots and sign up with a dating service. She must go out on dates and then tell about them the next day on the air.
For Alex, a woman that has never dated much and didn't really mind being single, this is mortifying. But, when she is promised an opportunity in New York if she will follow through with the publicity stunt, she reluctantly agrees.
Hilarity ensues when Alex goes out on one terrible date after another. Moe gets involved and Alex's career and personal life becomes a nightmare of confusion.

This story was insanely funny, heartwarming, and touching. Alex learns from her experience on the radio show that she has some big decisions to make. She learns a lot about her life and her past and that gives her the strength to decide on her future.
I loved this book. It was well written, carefully plotted to keep you guessing what will happen next. I usually read several books at once, but once I started on this one I couldn't put it down.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy chick lit, contemporary fiction, and romance.
This one gets one the rare five star ratings. A+

Awesome

It was way better than I had expected. Great read only complaint is I felt like the ending was unresolved, like it need another chapter.

Sweet

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this story. It was engaging and hilariously funny. I loved it right up to the ending. I hated that part. I can't stand incomplete endings!

A fun, quick read with some interesting characters and fun twists. I liked Alex, the main character. Found her generally relatable and interesting. However there were a few moments where Alex seemed rather immature for her age. Also, the ending felt abrupt. Like there was another chapter or two missing.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I received this book for free through Goodreads Giveaways. My opinions are my own.

I won this book on Goodreads (Thank You). As soon as I started to read, I knew this was I book I would enjoy. Great characters and funny situations. After finishing the book, I realized it really was about how a child reacted to the death of her parents and how it effected her life.

I won this book in a giveaway. The story itself was good. I especially liked the relationship depicted between Alex and Moe-- it reminded me a lot of my relationship with my Nanny before she passed away-- she was a hot ticket too! I have also lost someone close to a car accident (my brother) and could relate to the story on that level as well. That being said, I almost didn't finish reading it. There were so many typos, errors of sentence structure, commas were they didn't belong-- the English teacher in me was cringing. Most of the words that should have been compound words (lady like, bee lined, switch board, back handed) were written as two separate words. Sentences had commas that didn't make sense (Jack, had always been the voice of reason, through this whole nutcracker of chaos, but I had learned from life, that logic just can’t explain everything that happens to us.) Often a word was used that didn't make sense or was the wrong word (seen unfold instead of scene unfold, A & W Root Bear, err of cynicism instead of air of cynicism). The worst was Aubrey Hepburn, the Philis ball team, and Kelly Clarkston. I don't mean to nitpick, since everyone makes mistakes while writing. There were just so many. The author is considering a sequel, and I think that this story is perfect for that. I would love to find out more about Alex's journey. I just hope she gets a better editor because Alex, Grandpa, Moe, Charley, and Scout deserve better.

Cute Story, Poor Editing.

I won a copy of this book through Good Reads so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Overall, I enjoyed the story but it reads more like a first draft than a finished novel.
At times the grammatical errors are extremely distracting as I had to read a sentence 2, 3 + times in a row before deciphering the intended meaning.
Some reviewers complained about the seemingly incomplete ending but I thought it was somewhat fitting for where Alex is in her life.

I won a Kindle edition of this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I enjoyed the story, funny and witty, likeable characters. But as some of the other reviewers mentioned, the ending did not feel complete. That spoiled the whole experience for me which is a pity because otherwise I would have given the book 4 stars.

While this was a cute story, I was not a fan of the protagonist. This book felt like a high school drama except our characters are supposed to nearly 30. Additionally, the ending was very abrupt and did not feel like it fit with the book. It reminds me of the first draft of an essay when you're just ready to be done.

When I was about 3/4 of the way through Me & Moe, I thought I'd be giving this book four stars. I'm okay with an open or unresolved ending, but this book seemed to have no ending. There was a lot left unresolved.

I liked Alex's recaps of her dates to her grandparents. The book was funny, but at times, I felt that it was trying too hard to be funny.

I really wish there were half stars! I would give this one a solid 4.5 (didn't care for how it ended). The characters were likable and the storyline was engaging and funny. A fun quick read especially for fans of sarcasm.
