Zenith Series #1

Zenith Falling

Rate this book
Joelle married Rob Williams, lead singer of the rock band Zenith, before she was old enough to know better. She has spent years following Zenith around while they struggle to become rock stars. Only now, alcoholism has replaced the talent that once was going to make Rob a legend, leaving Joelle’s life spiraling out of control. The problem is there isn’t a soul in the world that cares, including her husband.

Nick Lassiter is a powerful business magnate in Seattle, Washington, and was acquainted with Joelle long ago, before she became Joelle Williams. Nick’s return to Joelle’s life gives her a link to a world outside of Zenith. A world that starts to become far more appealing than the crazy, alcohol dominated one she lives in. Until the fateful night when her entire life implodes and Nick is the only person she has to run to. Joelle soon sees only one thing clearly: Nick Lassiter has become so much more than just a friend who can save her.

When Zenith disbands and Rob tries to get sober, Joelle begins to discover her own identity outside of Zenith, and the person she finds is nothing like the young, fragile girl who needed rescuing when Nick first met her. Who she discovers just might be a woman worth loving.

Raw. Real. Emotional Romance. Writing provocative and darker themed romance that always finds its happily ever after!

With 50 plus, full length books there is a story for everyone!
Cowboy romance? Got it! Small town... yep. Big city rock star? Covered! You like a little suspense? Yep, got a few of those too.

Most of my books are standalone stories in connected series. Whether it's the setting, theme or family connections, my series are often multi-generational and span decades. While each book is a complete story, beloved characters will pop in and out of these sagas. I stick to new adult, contemporary and western romances, with tons of emotion and all the feels tucked into them.

I live in the rainy area of Western Washington, and spend as much time as I can traveling to destinations all across the state, where I do all things outdoors.
Many of these locations become the settings for my books.
I earned my business degree from Western Washington University, and worked for several years in the construction management field before turning to writing full time.

I enjoyed this book. Joelle was a troubled young girl who fell in love and married the rising rock star Rob. A few years and many parties later she wakes up to realise their life style can't go on, Rob's failings to succeed have him drowning his sorrows every waking hour. He is that far gone he can't see past his depression let alone his wife who is struggling to not just keep him but his band mates under a roof by working herself into the ground.

At the start of the book Joelle bumps into an old school friends brother while attending a AA meeting, Nick was outside waiting to give his sis a lift. What can I say about him.........I bloody loved him!!! He was such a gentle caring man on one hand and the other he was right in your face telling it straight. I did like Joelle, she worked her arse off for Rob and the band with no appreciation, when she met Nick and later he offered her a job she still worked her arse off.
Did I forget to mention Nick is a CEO of his company, not that it matters to Joelle she had no idea either. She was a pain at times with her indecisiveness but I think that was just her nature.

I really like this author, I cried a time or two with this book because Nick was just chuffing everything and more!!!
I've left out loads but I think this is worth the read book buds, it's the first of three and I got them all free from daily free books. Thank you Leanne

Genre: CR
Tropes: Older man, Emotional cheating

h is a 23 yr old college dropout holding down 3 jobs to support her lazy, drunk, rock band singer husband. After her first Al Anon meeting, she meets the brother of her old high school BFF, who is the hero.

The h was such a sad sack of shit; I couldnt deal with her martyrdom and yet her strangely passive-agressive behavior with the H. I couldnt find anything remotely likable about her so I had to stop. Even tho, this book was a soap-opera trainwreck that I could not look away from for a while.

DNF @ Page 200

(I cannot comment on the steam factor since there still was no love scenes by the time I stopped, more than halfway thru.)

When you read a Leanne Davis book you know it’s going to be something so painfully emotional, and tragic, that your stomach feels knotted while reading it. When I saw she had a new series coming out I was both happy and scared at the same time. Her characters go through feelings of guilt, sadness and devastated sympathy before getting there happy ending and as a reader you are along on that emotional journey from beginning to end. This is the first book in a 3 book series. The series is based loosely around the members of a band called Zenith.

The heroine Joelle Williams is married to the lead singer. Joelle lost both her parents for different reasons and by high school she was in foster care and alone. When she met Rob Williams she was just 19 and lonely with no sense of self and had radically changed her appearance. They married shortly after and now 4 years later she is attending Al-Anon meetings and trying to stay afloat living with an alcoholic husband and the band members in squalor. She doesn’t know who she is anymore. She’s become a doormat to her husband who controls her emotionally but she is so scared of being alone she puts up with everything until she runs into the older brother of a childhood friend at the Al-Anon meetings. At first she is embarrassed for him to see what she has become and figures he is going to judge her based on her hair, tattoos and piercings. But he soon becomes her lifeline and the only friend she can depend on when things get worse with Rob.

Nick Lassiter was such a uniquely written character. From the start he never saw what was on the outside of Joelle. He only saw what was on the inside and he knew she needed saving. Most of that comes from having to be the man in his family from the age of 13 when his father suddenly died leaving a grieving mother with many daughters left to raise. Nick appointed himself as Noelle’s rock until she was able to be strong for herself. This was not an easy or fast path as Joelle had so many issues along with a husband she had walked away from but was hesitant to completely let go of.

Joelle’s journey back to herself was not an easy one and at times was very painful to watch as she would move a couple steps forward then she would ultimately find something to sabotage it and take a few steps back. Even though Joelle wasn’t the addict here she still had to go through the steps to start making the right decisions for herself so she could start a new life.

We were introduced to all the characters who will be in the next two books in this book and I for one cannot wait to read their stories.

This book had a decent storyline to it, but Joelle was despicable. She played the “poor me, I’m so confused in life” card far too often and was an indecisive, wishy-washy little girl for all but the last few chapters. Nick was okay, but he was no real prize either. He did stand up for Joelle against his family and her ex-friend (who was a vile, self centered, meaner than mean girl herself), but he was too quick to stalk off and not listen (much like he accused Joelle of doing), and was all but willing to throw his chances at Joelle away because he was mad. The only redeeming qualities of this book were the two supporting (in so many ways) characters: Erica and Spike/Spencer. Erica was truly kind and caring and S/S obviously cared about his friendship with Joelle and just wanted her safe and happy. I will read the next book to see how their story goes.

This is a well written book, I was quickly engrossed in the story, but I couldn't quite connect with these frustrating characters. I think the book would have benefited from being a little shorter, I felt like it took FOREVER for Joelle to grow up.

At first I sympathized with Joelle, but it felt like took 95% of the book for her to gain an ounce of self esteem. Nick was so kind, so patient, and it felt so one-sided. She just couldn't crawl out of her own misery, and eventually I wondered why Nick kept trying.

While I didn't love this book, I liked the supporting characters enough to want to read the other books. I'm especially interested in how the author redeems Rob.

I don’t know how to feel about these books. I’m currently reading this one, but from what I’m reading from the other books, it seems everyone is involved with each other and I don’t like that. Maybe it’s immature of me, but I don’t like when the H/h keeps being friends with their ex, even less when this said ex is now dating their ex’s friend. I like the plot, but I don’t see the need of involving everyone with each other...

Oh geez. I’m not entirely sure where to start. This book was rough. ROUGH. It was probably about 75% percent too long, and the majority of that is because the entire book is repetitive. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a group of characters I disliked more than these ones, especially the heroine, Joelle. I’ve always thought saying a character was “too stupid to live” was one of the meanest things you can say but, I get it. Joelle...I just...

Anyway, here are some examples of what I’m talking about and just note that this goes on through the entire book. If I could do a kindle search of a question mark or any interrogative the results would be in the thousands, I’m certain. Every question is answered with a question, and Joelle especially seems to have trouble grasping anything someone might tell her.

“No. I married the lead singer, Rob. That’s my husband. He’s the singer for the band.”

“You miscarried?” She looked him squarely in the eye. “Yes, I did. And I was glad.” “And that’s what made you sick?” “Yes, it’s what got infected.”

She mostly wore sweatpants, workout pants, t-shirts and sweatshirts. Nick continued to wear suits, slacks, ties and jackets.

“I know. I just needed you to know that I know.,” “Well, I don’t know,” she said, a cloud of confusion adding her mind.

“She wants me to live with her?” “Yes.” Nick kept the rest of Erica's reasons out of it. “She likes me then? Not just as your tagalong?”

But it wasn’t her fault. It wasn’t her fight. Not right now it wasn’t. Maybe it never would be again or maybe it would be in a month.

“What’s it like?” “What’s what like?”

“I don’t get it. I can’t figure it out. Why would Nick bother with you? I get it now though.”

I bought three books in this series and I think I learned a valuable lesson when it comes to wanting to complete entire series. In the future I’ll just buy the first book and go from there because I’m not sure I can even try to get through the next two books.

4.5 stars. I am almost stunned that I liked this book as much as I did. It's been sitting on my Kindle for well over a year and I just decided to do a spring cleaning of my content and came across Zenith Falling. I'm so glad I did because the book is fantastic and there is really only one reason why: NICK LASSITER. For the record, I'm not a fangirl, I don't give out 5 stars like candy on Halloween and I don't have "book boyfriends". However, I have come across a few heroes that I loved so much I could actually envision being with someone like them IRL. And Nick happens to be my perfect idea of a MAN. He is not a boy who throws dramatic tantrums and gets off on being an alpha male who intimidates others and sleeps with anything that moves. He is a very intelligent, wealthy, responsible, caring, hot MAN. What I cherish above all else is completely unconditional love and someone who would TAKE CARE of me. Someone who thought I hung the moon, put my needs ahead of any one else's. Someone who desired only me, and doted on me. Nick does all of these things and more for Joelle and although she didn't necessarily deserve it all the time IMO, the point is that Nick never once gave a crap what anyone else thought. So yes, Nick might just be my dream book-husband. And I was glad when Joelle finally started to accept that she had just won the jackpot in landing him and that she tried to deserve him.

P.S. If you read the first chapter of the next book in the series (it's included at the end of my kindle version) you'll get a psuedo epilogue about Nick and Joelle 2 years in the future and I'm tempted to read the whole book just for more glimpses of Nick.

It droned on and on.

It was long. And drawn out unesasarily. I feel like it could have been shortened or made into two books.

Joelle Williams is 23 years old and is married to Rob, the lead singer of the band Zenith. She once believed that Rob was everything but lately things have gotten so out of control with his drinking and she knows that they are struggling to make ends meet. She prays that Zenith can make it big but until then she needs to work to keep the income coming in.

Nick Lassiter is 35 years old and a successful businessman. When he sees Joelle at an Al-Anon meeting he remembers her from when she was best friends with his younger sister, Trina. When he sees how much she is struggling he wants to help her get back on her feet but understands she is too proud for handouts.

As Joelle struggles through things she finds that Nick is the only one she can count on but will he be there for her when she needs him the most? When Joelle must make some heard decisions about her own life will Nick support her through everything and when Joelle is faced with his family will they support Joelle or throw her to the wolves?

This was an interesting book with some twists and turns to make you wonder what was going to happen next.

My heart broke for Joelle as she did marry Rob for the right reasons at the time but she was young and had no clue on how Rob would change with the lack of success of Zenith. She did her best to bring in income but it could not have been easy living in a house with the entire band.

Nick was definitely interesting as he saw something in Joelle that he wanted to help and he was able to get her working a more stable job but it also cost her a little bit as she didn't have the qualifications and people resented her for it but he never had to face what she did. Nick was also very private and wasn't open about certain things with Joelle.

Their was definitely chemistry between Joelle and Nick but both were in relationships so nothing could go anywhere.

My heart broke for what Joelle went through at her house and I was so happy that Nick and Erica were there for her and I loved Erica and how well she treated Joelle!! I was so angry at Nick's family for how they treated Joelle, especially Trina.

Towards the end I felt bad for Joelle as she really felt like she did not belong in Nick's world and she left the party and then things just completely spiraled out of control. I was so mad at Nick with Brittany, especially for what she had done to Joelle. I knew why Joelle had to see Rob and get things the way she wanted.

I was so proud of Joelle for taking the time she needed to get herself together at the end and I was happy how things ended!

I loved this. Although the story line is somewhat predictable, there's enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and wanting to read on. The story is basically about a young girl who marries a rock star and gets caught up in a tornado of the life a rock band lead. She knows this is not the life she dreamed, and by chance meets the brother of an old school friend, who tries to help her and tries to make her see she cannot continue the way she is, but she doesn't feel she can leave her current life, that is until one night turns everything upside down. With no family or friends around her, Joelle runs to the only place she can, Nick. What follows is a rollercoaster for both Joelle & Nick. Joelle trying to learn who she is and decide on her future - does she go back to her husband and the life she has just run away from or does she stay with Nick and life where money is no object and she will never be ignored again. Nick on the other hand doesn't initially acknowledge his true feelings for Joelle, he just wants to help, and has to face up to not only his true feelings, but live with the knowledge that Joelle may not be able to fit into his lifestyle and also may not stay with him. This is journey for both Joelle and Nick, both as individuals and as a couple dealing with many issues along the way which relate to real life. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of series.

At first, I wasn't sure about this book. I love the musician trope. However, the musicians of Zenith (however talented they apparently were) were lazy druggie alcoholics and that turned me off. It was hard not to feel for Joelle, who worked three jobs (while her husband did half work on his music), while still making it to his performances. It was hard not to see the push towards Nick, who was a little difficult for me to read in the beginning. Joelle was hiding through her clothes, hair, and makeup which made the world either scared or dismissive of her. She was stronger than she thought, and I loved her character. The story of Joelle and Nick evolved slowly and it was a little "loud" at times, but it was nice to read of a man who helped with no questions asked. He was mostly patient and was there to fall on, to rely on, and to love her for how she was.

Joelle is married to Rob. The lead singer for Zenith. Rob lives the fast pace life but is married to Joelle. He doesn’t really see her anymore and one night she runs into her old friends brother, Nick. At first they are so different that they don’t really speak until one night at one of the meetings Joelle’s car won’t start and Nick goes past the lot and wants to help Joelle. Joelle has no one in her life that will take a few minutes to listen to her. She’s pretty much feeling lonely and unwanted and uncared for. Rob is focus all on him and doesn’t notice that Joelle is making herself sick trying to be the best for them not her. Nick becomes a savior and helps Joelle make her life better. There’s a lot in this book but it’s great.

After reading the synopsis everyone know what this book is about so my review is going to cut right to the chase. I did like the book but it wasn't one of my favorites. I have issues with married people cheating even though this more of an emotional cheat, Joelle was still married and admittedly trying to make it work all the while using Nick as a crutch. I liked Nick as a character, loved how he was always there for Joelle but never truly crossed the line until she left her husband. I had a bit of trouble understanding exactly what Nick saw in Joelle and wished she had been a bit more sure of herself at times. I would read this author again and am curious to read the next in the series.

Most books in this genre romanticize rock stars, but Zenith Falling takes the opposite approach as Rob and his band only rock out rock bottom. This gritty approach felt raw and real, leaving me heartbroken for Joelle who really tried to mean those whole "for better, or for worse" vows they had made. But the worst in others tends to bring out the worst in ourselves, and it became a depressing toxic cycle. Enter: Nick. The older white knight with a hero complex, determined to help Joelle save herself, no matter how many times she attempts to self-destruct. I always enjoy Leanne Davis' stories because her characters feel flawed and real in a way that seems like so much more than fiction.

I loved this book about a young married girl struggling with identity, responsibility, her neglectful wannabe rockstar husband, realities of life choices. lassisster Her friend, boss, eventually her lover I loved I really liked his protective, generous, giving personality with this fragile woman. I didn't connect with her husband Rob. He was self absorbed alcoholic. Loved Joella, but she could be contradictory. Well written dimensional relatable characters. Loved Erica, generous warm character, Spike too. Joellas growth was fun to read, I wanted to protect her, too. recommended.

This is a book where Joelle grows up really fast. She marries young to the lead singer of the band Zenith. She runs into her old friends brother when she was leaving a meeting. She didn't know how he recognized her. She changed a lot. Blue hair, tatooes and piercings. He became a rich business man. She is torn between her husband who has stopped noticing her and to a guy that is noticing her. I liked it but the the back and for from Joelle. Make up your mind. I liked the ending. Ahe stopped and figured out what she really wanted.

Joelle has had a tragic life. Both of her parents died and she was in foster care. She met and married Rob at 19. Unfortunately her husband is an alcoholic and treats her horribly, yet she stays with him because she doesn’t want to be alone. She meets Nick and instantly craves his friendship.
Nick is a great character and helps Joelle find her way in the world even though it’s a huge struggle, but he never gives up on her. Very emotional read that will keep you reading and not wanting to stop.

Not going to write a summary of the book. You can get that from other reviews. Just want to say this book gets 5 stars from me. One, because it is a full novel and a standalone. No cliff hanger! Two, it was well written with no typos or grammar errors. And three, it held my interest from beginning to end. No boring parts and no need for skimming. Definitely going to check out Ms. Davis' other books.

I loved this book. It was a true to life story which drew you in. To see Joelle who had a poor upbringing meet up with brother of an old friend who came from the opposite type of family. Never had to want for anything, yet he worked hard for what he had. Their journey to the beginning of a happy ending was captivating and kept you on the edge of your seat. Totally loved this book and how they both grew as people and as a couple.

Interesting and entertaining read

I really enjoyed this book. The author writes very well and the story runs very smooth. The characters are very realisitic and Joelle is frustrating at times but she comes into her own by the end of the book. I really loved Nick from the beginning and loved following the evolution of their relationship. I am lookong forward to reading the next two boks of this series.

Nick runs into Joelle many years after her friendship ends with his little sister. He is a CEO of his own company and has his life together. Joelle is going to Al-Anon meetings to try to find something, she's drowning and no one seems to see her. Basically she is a hot little mess. Nick sees the Joelle beyond the colorful hair, facial jewelry and the tattoos. Can Joelle see what Nick sees in her and between them before its too late? Great story!!!!

This book was amazing. Tho Joelle does get annoying sometimes with her defensive nature and not accepting help. But her back story helps you tolerate it. Both characters try to fit each other into a mood they think they should be in until they both wake up after they hurt each other with their actions. Long journey of self discovery and self confidence until they can love each other openly. Love anything Leanne writes. She has a real and unique talents that I have rarely seen when reading.

I really liked the beginning of the book. But when it got more serious between the two, their behavior totally bothered me. He suddenly went totally into the offensive even though he always distanced himself beforehand. And she pity herself all the time and runs away immediately with every discussion. The dialogue was sometimes a bit monotonous, it seemed like reading an interview rather than a love story. I'm looking forward to the next book. ☺️

Friends to lovers romance

Omg! Loved this story. Joelle and Nick suck you into the story. Joelle is dealing with challenges of her life and she is alone even though she isn't. Nick comes along and can be see as a knight in shining armor character.

Leanne Davis is becoming one of my favorite authors. This book has steamy moments as well. Loved it!

I enjoyed the journey with Joelle, Nick and Rob. I cheered for the way Nick took care of her. I hated that she loved Rob even though he wasn’t showing her anything in return. Seeing some of the stuff she went through was heartbreaking but Nick was always there to pick her up and put her back together

It was a little difficult to review this book for me. Our author wrote this book in such a sensitive way for us to understand the disconnect in Joelle’s marriage. Unfortunately for me no matter what I don’t like cheating...on any level. Anyway, the writing is superb, the storyline is interesting and the characters are fully flushed out.

Very nice read. Kept my attention all the way through. I really enjoyed the suspense of trying to figure which man the main character would end up choosing. Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
