I’ve enjoyed using this as a guide for my Pilates workouts. I use videos as well but I like how this describes what to do with your body, which can be hard to tell when watching a video. The pictures and step-by-step directions are clear and helpful. There are warnings about what not to do so you won’t hurt yourself.

I'm thinking about starting some Pilates classes and I wanted some visuals and insight on what to expect. This book gave great general info and photos.

Pilates for Beginners

These movements are good warmup, stretch and strengthening without too many props! It is a good to pair with Pilates mat workouts!

Not bad for a freebie, but not what I needed to know. Exercises are well described, and shown in photographs, but generally too difficult for me at this time.

I'm having mobility issues and have heard good things about Pilates. But as I went through this book I realized that if I could do these poses I wouldn't have the problem in the first place. I did like how the photos were chronological and inclusive, so you could flip through them and see each exercise as it's performed. This book could be worthwhile if you're dedicated and flexible enough to actually do these, and if you are - thank God for your health and try not to get too old for this.

Great for Beginners

Lotus Flower to Leg Stretch are great chapters for beginners. These chapters are a great daily regimen for beginners or if you want to basic maintenance.

Pul-leeze!!!!

Don’t ruin a potentially good book with repeated misspellings if a word used again and again!

Had the author not heard of Spell Check????

Very disappointing.

good read

Basic skills, but good information to someone like me that is new to Pilates. A great start for me, now to keep moving forward…

Useful

As a note to self, don't attempt this in jeans again.
But it is a pretty good workout. My abs are hurting.

This book has very poor writing, with many spots of weird editing and layout. I don't know if English is the author's first language or not, or it was due to being lost in translation.

This is not all Pilates, there are some Yoga poses mixed in the sequence of exercises. The front cover is a yoga pose, and a very poor example at that. There is some very poor alignment with the cover photo.

On one page the author talks about spinal and pelvis alignment and positioning. She describes the same thing twice but says they are two different positions and to find something inbetween. But it's the same position in each description!

Also, a lot of the classical exercises are given new and strange names: "Seated Balance" instead of Open Leg Rocker, etc. Some of the important exercises like the Hundred are left out completely. You can't have Pilates without the Hundred.
