Fighting to Stay

Rate this book
“Never stay, Lacey. Promise me. Promise me right now, that whenever things go bad in life, you will run. Never, ever stay.”

Lacey Monroe was used to running. When things got bad, when things got dangerous, when there was a chance that she would get hurt – physically or emotionally – she did what her momma said. She ran. She kept running, until she landed in Salt Rock, Alabama. She meets Roam Cooper, the Vice President of the Mayhem Motorcycle Club. For the first time in her life, Lacey considers staying…and then right before her eyes, her world falls apart, and she runs again.

“No more runnin’, Lacey. ‘Bout time you started fighting to stay.” – Roam.

I feel like I already read this story. I swear they all started to be the same. In 2 days I have read 2 books that have the same pet name for her "sugar" and both books have kinda the same scene near the beginning. It just felt weird reading 2 books in a row like that. I mean, what are the f*cking odds !?!?!?! The second book is "Wild".

But no seriously, this book reminds me of one and I can't remember which one. Maybe the reason to that is that all the bikers ended up the same, which kills my fragile Croatian heart because I ♥ bikers :(

The way they end up together is just off. Nothing happens, they simply meet and f*ck. No convo needed, no building the scene needed except "oh god he is so handsome". Right.....

So the scene that bothered me in both books I read:

So they have a good thing going on but something happens and just like that she bolts. She doesn't stay for explanation, for conversation with Roam to see wtf is that all about. She just runs because she lives by her mother's last word to her: "Just run when something hurts you", or something like that. And I was surprised because he was actually amazing to her all the time. She acted stupid, childish and didn't want to hear anything about it. Oh well.... No need to act like a grown up right...

I am still thinking about what book did this remind me of.... Too many similar stuff and this is bugging me whole day....

3.5 STARS!

I love the story and I love the characters but the story just goes really really fast. But it's a short read and I basically sniffed this book and I'm done.

I feel for Lacey, her childhood, the loss and her mom's advice that she took to heart. And I would normally hate a runner, and Lacey is definitely a runner. And I get it at first. But when she went too far, that was just stupid.

Roam Cooper sounds really hot. The first time he got together with Lacey, it was with another girl, was kinda shocking. I thought Lacey would put a stop to it. That was hot too! But again, short.

There's so much going on in this book. Roam is a biker, someone was trying to harm Lacey... everything went so fast in their relationship and next thing you know, the culprit is caught, and that was the end of that.

Though I did love the ending. I'm a sucker for HEA.

All in all, it was interesting. I just wish it wasn't rushed too much.

I'm giving this 4 stars and that is mainly because of the FMF scene. whew! THAT was unexpected! I just wish it was longer.. lol.

“Never stay, Lacey.  Promise me.  Promise right now, that whenever things go bad in life, you will run.  Never, ever stay.”

It's your typical MC story! Sexy-bad-ass biker with a doormat-somewhat-stupid heroine.

Fighting To Stay was an interesting read. It has an interesting story line with the right amount of suspense, sexual tensions and lots of sex that kept me on the edge!

The first chapter of this book hooked me. The way it started out was unique. The story was fast paced.. too fast in my opinion. The book is too short to completely sweep you off your feet but good MC book none-the-less.

I want her. I want her in my bed and on my bike. Somethin’ about the way she carries herself tells me she’s not like other girls.  She’s been broken.  I want to fix her.

Lacey was an okay heroine but for me what stood out in this book is ROAM.

Both characters are well written but I didn't feel a huge spark. Roam and Lacey never really took hold of any in depth emotions from me. Their relationship moved a long too quickly and I wasn't given any chance to feel it.

It's a 3 star for me but as I mentioned earlier- the FMF scene was a surprise so I'm rounding this up to 4. I love, love FMF and it's rare to find that in MC book. hehe!

Overall even though this was a short read, it's well written and didn't feel force or awkward! This is my first read from this author and will definitely check her other books! Hopefully she'll write more MC books in the near future.

2.5-3 stars.

What's with the time skipping constantly?! After a while it got on my nerves!!

I mean, the story is okay but there was no substance in it. How could the two protagonists fall in love (or be believable to us readers) if we keep getting robbed of it?

So over all, a read that had potential but fluctuated for me from start to finish.

I had the priveledge of reading an ARC copy of this book and I cannot express enough how much I loved it. I want to write about every stinkin' detail because there were so many parts that amazed and surprised me. I loved Kasey's two Cowboy books, but this one was totally different and I really hated to put it down.

Young Lacey Monroe was told by her mother to always run when things get bad, so that's what she's been doing. That is until she felt like she really missed her best friend, Jenn, and decided to stay with her in Alabama. She actually feels like this might be the place she could see herself settling down in.

Sexy Roam Cooper is a tall, dark, tattooed alpha male. He is also the Vice President of the Mayhem Motorcycle Club. When he sets his eyes on Lacey, nothing is going to stop him from having her. There's some kind of connection he cannot describe.

Lacey was mesmerized by Roam. She couldn't understand the magnetism between each other. Roam helped her see that things could be okay. That is until something goes terribly wrong and Lacey decides to do what she does best.....RUN.

I loved how this book made me smile and then all of a sudden my heart sunk. "NO, NO, NO! This can't be happening!!", I said to myself. I read faster because I needed to calm my nerves and get to a happy place. This book was sweet, erotic, heart breaking, shocking and scary all throughout. It was also dramatic and heart wrenching. I couldn't help but feel sympathetic for Roam and Lacey when times got tough. I think I even shed a tear. I couldn't wait to finish it, but I didn't want it to end either. You will be happy to know that this book is a stand-alone with a Happy Ever After and boy is it a great ending.

Thank you Kasey Millstead for awarding us with another wonderful novel. I cannot wait to see what you have in store for us next . <3

2.5 stars.

Oh boy. So the plot was good. I liked the story line, I liked the characters... it's all good.

But the pace. The pacing was way too fast. The author skipped some time frames by mentioning "six weeks later..." and all that to make it seem not so insta-lust/love, but it still read really fast. I didn't get to fall in love with the story or the characters before it was over.

There was no DETAIL in the book or into their lives. No emotional attachment was made. It was just sort of "Hey! Here are the characters, this is their story... the end" type of book.

Being a fast reader also added into the factor because I finished the thing in bed in one hour. Seriously, my coffee lasted longer.

So I'm disappointed because the whole story has great potential, but story-telling execution fell short. Not to mention the heroine is TSTL.

Did I forget to mention that? Yeah, she was. And I hate that I'm disappointed because I really liked the idea of a MC club where the men are faithful from the beginning, even being bad-boys. They didn't share or whatever.. except that first scene 0_o but whatever. Disappointed :0(

3.5 - 4 Sugar Stars

You know how you really like something, but it is missing that extra "umph". Like a cupcake without the sprinkles. The cupcake was good....it just needed a little something else. That's this book. Its good. I just needed a little something else to make it great.

Lacey has learned to run from her problems. She learned it from her mom who made her promise....made her swear she would run away when things got bad. So she does. She ends up running back to her childhood friend who is living in Alabama.

Roam, great name by the way, is a sexy beast of a motorcycle man. Well, aren't they all? That's why we read the books, right. When he gets a taste of Lacey, he does not want to let her go. But that...right there....that's the problem with the book. He is instantly intrigued by her but he goes weeks without talking her. He pops up a few times, but there are weeks that go by with out contact. So missing the sprinkles right there.

When Lacey and Roam get together it is good. Really good. But again, as the story progresses we get these big gaps of time. Very frustrating. The book is good, just missing some intensity to make it great.

Fighting to Stay was a sexy, and at times, emotional read told in dual POV. As someone that isn’t hugely into MC reads, this was a perfect combination for me. Lots of hot sex, lots of laugh out loud moments. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Meet Lacey. After a rough childhood, she learnt to become a runner. When things aren’t going good, she flees and starts over. After another relationship heads south, she back to Alabama. Her best friend Jenn is there and she’s in need of some fun and friendship.
When things get bad, I run. I always have. It didn’t matter whether I was running into a field to escape my home life when I was a kid, or whether I was crossing state lines to escape a relationship gone wrong. When things get bad, I run.

One night she heads to the Mayhem MC Clubhouse with Jenn and her boyfriend Switch for a party and had the best time in a long time. After a few too many drinks, she ends up in a ménage and the connection between the biker and her is unmistakable. Neither can put the other out of their mind.
If only all men were decent and made it their life’s work to find a great woman and treat her like a queen…not that I want to be treated like a queen – just treated like a human being would suffice.

Meet Roam. He is a giant teddy bear that loves with his whole heart. He has all the qualities I love in my leading men. He’s determined to get Lacey in his bed and on the back of his bike. To stay. He’s so many things. I loved that he cooked for his woman and that he was right with her every step of the way. I loved that he was the god or giving orgasms & talking dirty. HOLY SHITBALLS PEOPLE.
”Sweetest fuckin’ pussy I’ve ever had. Fuckin’ beautiful. So fuckin’ sweet. You like my cock, sugar? You gonna take all of my cock?”

This pair was perfect for each other. Although I didn’t learn a whole lot about Roam’s past, except where he gets his name and one previous relationship, I knew he was the man to have Lacey ‘Fighting to Stay.
I want her. I want her in my bed and on my bike. Somethin’ about the way she carries herself tells me she’s not like the other girls. She’s been broken. I want to fix her.

There are ups and downs. Club business, random attacks on our girl Lacey, truck loads of LAUGH OUT LOAD hilarious moments, junk food and trash tv sessions, a super surprise neither was expecting and of course LOTSA HELLA HAWT LOVING, and so much loyalty and friendship. Lola and Jasper added so much to the story and I adored them. I want to tell you about my favorite bits, but it will give away too many spoilers.
If there’s a word for fuller than full, then that’s how I feel. I feel so full I might burst. Full of love, of happiness, of peace.

This was a super quick read for me, one that I would recommend in a heartbeat. I think one of my favorite things was that even though I know Millstead is Aussie, and she managed to transport me to the South. The dialogue was absolutely like I experienced when I visited there earlier this year. The food, the slang, the hospitality, it was all there and I freaking loved it. Although of course I wished Lacey made a different decision and wanted to smash her over the head with my Kindle, I still saw her doing the best she could, and couldn’t help but love her through it all.
Is there a word for being emptier than empty? That’s what I am.

This was my first read by Kasey Millstead, but it won’t be my last. I’m looking forward to reading more from this talented woman.
I’m not crazy, you stupid bitch,” she shouts. “I’m fucking creative!” - Bahahahahaha LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ♥

Kasey's cowboys have nothing on Roam that man is pure SIN! "Wanna take a ride, sugar?" His voice thick, husky and laced with sexual tension that is radiating between us." Lacey, the girl is in deep, and well she's a jealous one, "well he didn't much look like he regretted effing her, like he did me," I snap." He's bossy, "got s*** to do now, sugar, but when I get back, you and me are gonna have a little chat." When a woman is in pain and she snaps at you Roam knows to suck her a**, "no, darlin', I just want to get you to the hospital," I try to placate her." And Lacey she knows how to handle her man, "well, your girl thinks you smell like motor oil and other manly things that stink, so you best go get washed up before dinner," I slap him on his gorgeous a**." I wish that there was a little more story inbetween where Roam and Lacey were apart, but other than that I loved the book!

**Arc provided by author in exchange for an honest review**

"It must be nice to always have someone. Someone you can rely on, someone who will catch you when you fall and support you when you soar. Someone who loves you unconditionally - not because they have to, but because they want to. I only hope I can find a love like that, one day."

Lacey Monroe's life hasn't been easy. Her parents volatile relationship and her father's controlling ways left her with deep scars; ones that she can't quite seem to get away from. As an adult, Lacey constantly moves and never lets herself invest too much in relationships with the opposite sex because she feels she will always be let down, and she is unwilling to let something/someone hurt her.

On her last "run," Lacey decides to head to Alabama to stay with her best friend, Jenn. Jenn's boyfriend is a member of the Mayhem Motorcycle Club, and at one of their parties, Lacey meets Roam - "He's a triple threat. Tall, dark, and handsome." Their instant connection has Lacey's head spinning, but ultimately, she settles into their life together and even feels like it's time to stop running.

"Been dreaming of you, Lacey. Never thought I'd be a man to settle down, but you're different. You make me want things I never thought I'd want. I love you, sugar."

Lacey is finally living the life she never thought she would have until, with one devious encounter, Lacey's world completely unravels, and she finds herself doing what she thought she was done with -- running! But with a man like Roam after you, Lacey can only run so far and for so long; in the end, Roam gets his "sugar," and Lacey gets her HEA.

"'You were wrong mom. Sometimes running isn't the only option. Sometimes fighting to stay is the right thing to do."

This is my third book by Ms. Millstead. Her Down Under Cowboy Series is fantastic. Any time you can put hot alpha males together with cowboy boots and tight Wranglers, it's a win for everyone. What I like most about her cowboy series as well as Fighting to Stay is that the issues and angst that she puts into her hero/heroine relationships, for the most part, are realistic. Miscommunication is a major flaw of a lot of relationships and that factor causes a lot of tears and torment in her books. Should the lack of hearing each other out cause years of heartbreak for Lacey and Roam, absolutely not, but it makes their reunion that much sweeter because they missed out on so much and now it is their turn to run to each other instead of away.

I really enjoyed this book. Roam is everything an alpha male should be and the way he treats Lacey in the book, except for at the beginning, is how a woman like Lacey deserves to be treated after everything she had to endure. The story is a sweet and sexy read, and even though it is gut wrenching at times, Lacey and Roam get their happily ever after, which is what us hopeless romantics want in the end:)

Kasey Millstead knows how to work wonders with Cowboys and damn did she do a great job with a sexy, alpha male biker named Roam.

I have been watching and reading all the teasers I could for this book and couldn't wait to get my hands on it and let me tell you that my waiting was certainly paid off.

I couldn't put this story down and so many times I wanted to skip forward because I was so impatient to find out what happened. There were ups and downs, oh my god moments, happiness and anger and moments when I wanted to drag a certain person out of the book and beat the crap out of her (you'll know exactly who I am talking about when you read it).

Lacey is a girl who had a very unstable upbringing. To the outside world her family was perfect, perfect father, perfect mother, perfect house, perfect life..... Looks can be very deceiving and what goes on behind closed doors the complete opposite. Her mother always told her to run when things got bad, so that is exactly what Lacey has been doing her whole life. When missing her best friend Jenn becomes too much, Lacey finds her way to Jenn's town and settles there for a while. When Jenn takes Lacey with her to the MC clubhouse where her boyfriend is a member, Lacey runs into Roam.

Roam is the epitome of a sexy, alpha male biker, who doesn't do relationships and sleeps with the club whore. He finds something different about Lacey and knows he has to have her and boy oh boy is their first sexual encounter off the charts with steam and hotness!

Slowly but surely their relationship turns into something neither expected, especially Roam but it's not without drama, danger and of course a psycho b****, trying to ruin there chance at happiness. Roam surprised me because although he started out as a bit of an a**hole, he had another side to him that made you fall for him big time.

While they do find some happiness together, it is short lived and some evil plotting forces Lacey to do what she does best..... she runs! But this time the consequences have an effect on more than just herself. The question is, when things are revealed and cleared up, will Lacey keep running or Fight to Stay.

I loved the pace of the story, I loved the characters and the connections between them and I loved the mix of emotions that the dual POV created for the reader. I'm a big fan of Kasey Millstead's writing and this story was quite different from her previous books but I loved it all the same and would definitely recommend that you pick up a copy now!

Have you ever been tagged on a giveaway? I have... Mostly by my other book worm friends who really just want the book for themselves so they tag me to enter. I was actually tagged for this book by 3 people so I decided to give it a try. Boy, am I happy I signed up to do this tour!!

Lacey is on the run, yet again. She has had another bad breakup and instead of going somewhere new she decides it's time to go home. She hasn't been back since she left at 18 but since her best friend, Jenn, has invited her to stay with her until she finds a place of her own how can she resist? Jenn is dating a biker from the Mayhem MC and brings Lacey to a party after the MC returns from a run. That's where she runs into a man she refers to as Triple; tall, dark and handsome.

Roam has had his share of women, he isn't a saint, but he can't seem to fight off the long lasting attraction he feels for Lacey. When a series of attacks at the bar Lacey works at is brought to the attention of the cops, she finds herself under the protection of Mayhem MC and more specifically her very own Triple, Roam.

"I'm not real into sharin' much about my feelin's, so that's about all you're gonna hear from me. The rest of the time, I'll show you. Now, it's up to you. You wanna take this ride with me or not, sugar?"

This is the first book I've read by Kasey Millstead so I wasn't sure if I would like her. I mean, don't YOU get nervous the first time you try something new? My mind was running like the energizer bunny... Will she like my review? Will I like her characters? Will the plot suck? Will I be so turned on I can't think for the next month? Yeah, so far I can say that I loved the plot, her characters are amazing, and while I might be able to think for the next month this book sure gave me one nice hangover!!
(Now let's hope she likes my review!)

"I feel like, even if I fucked you every night for the rest of my life, it wouldn't be enough."

I am now starting to work through some of the other books Kasey has written since this one had a good amount of smut. Man, those scenes were HOT! Makes me want to crash the Mayhem headquarters, STAT! Since there was no mention, I'm not exactly sure if there will be other books in a series or if this is a one and done but I LOVE that for once, I'm not reading a cliffhanger... I would suggest this for any of my Motorcycle Romance Divas out there, this one's a keeper!

Ever since Lacey’s Mom killed her Dad than herself Lacey has been moving. If she got into a relationship that was not good or had even one challenge she would run again. Never staying in one place got to be tiring after a while and she decided to move closer to where she started and live with her best friend. As Lacey became settled in her new environment she meets her best friend’s boyfriend and his friends who just so happen to be part of the Mayhem Motorcycle Club. She gets her first glimpse of Roam when he goes to the bar. She finds herself looking at him or for him the rest of the night. After a frenzied sexual encounter, Lacey doesn’t expect anything more from Roam. The problem is Roam wants more and won’t give up til Lacey relents. As Roam and Lacey become closer and closer Lacey is settled and happy and doesn’t even realize it. That is until an unexpected wrench is thrown into the mix and triggers her to run from Roam and her happiness. It takes years for Roam to find Lacey again, but can he convince her that he and their love is worth fighting for or will Lacey keep running?

I adored this book. Totally fell in love with Roam. The story was wonderful. It flowed so well you don’t realize you are coming to the end until it ends. Roam and Lacey’s love story though heavy with sex is intensely emotional and gives you a whole new prospective of what bikers could be like. Roam’s instant protective need toward Lacey is something every woman wants. This is definitely a read more than once kind of book. At times it is so emotionally overwhelming that you will need a box of tissues. I found myself tearing up multiple times. Kasey Milstead does a fantastic job with this book. Though it is a standalone book I think she could make this into a wonderful series with the guys in the bike club. If you love a story with love, sex, hot men and lots of emotion then you will love Kasey Milstead’s Fighting to Stay. Be sure to go to Barnes and Noble, Amazon and other book retailers to pick up your copy today.

I received this incredible book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Well, honestly, I fell in love with this book from the first chapter. Roam, oh Roam-swooning still over him. Lacey was handed a shitty hand while she was growing up from having an abusive father that verbally abused her and physically and verbally abused her mother in front of her. All Lacey knew was to run and run far away. But when she moves in with her best friend Jenn, she falling in love with Roam, even before she realizes it. And Roam loves her. But when things get misunderstood, Lacey runs and this time it's just not her that she's gonna hurt, it's gonna be the two most loved people in her life, Roam and Lola, their little girl. I was so mad at Lacey for never confronting Roam what she finds out to see if it's true. She took so many years away from both of them and Jasper too. I don't like to write reviews that spoil too much, so let me end by saying I love the ending of this book and love Roam even more!!!!!! Great read!!!!!

Softer MC book.

I got this book as part of Born to Ride collection which is currently on sale at 77p for 6 full length MC books, I figured at that price why not since I love bikers and surprisingly all 6 books were new to me.
This is the first book in the collection and while I did enjoy it something was missing, it didn't have a lot of depth I must admit and I didn't really feel the relationship this I think was due in part to the passage of time, huge chunks are skipped over which is fine in some cases but for me I needed more to believe this relationship was real but the main problem was Lacey, at times she's annoying as hell and for me the last 'run' was totally unbelievable, well not the run itself I can see panic could set in but the amount of time involved....no way, no way at all it was just too much when it could all have been explained, I just...I can't say more without spoiling it but you'll know what I mean when you read it.
Could have been so much better especially after the promising start.

In all honesty, this was my first "Biker" book. It was not what I expected at all. I am so glad that I got over my whole "I don't like biker books" issue and read this book. The story was so sweet and the characters were so lovable. Lacey seems so meek and mild at the beginning and I loved her sucker fetish.

At first glance you thought Roam would be the typical A**hole and stick to what I thought a true "biker" would be. I was proven wrong many times in this book. After their first encounter which was hot to say the least to their last. Roam proved time and time again never judge a book by it's cover. The way he would spit out single words and choppy sentences to Lacey was mind blowing.

So, If you want to try out a biker for the first time like me. I would definitely suggest you try Roam on for size. I give this book 4 rumbling stars...

Not a bad biker book

I found this book refreshing in that it wasn't all bad bikers killing and cheating on their woman. There was of course the biker hangers-on that all biker books have but once Roam is committed, he's really committed. Enough angst to keep the story interesting and lots of steam between the H/h.

Better than what I was expecting and another great story from this author.
