I enjoyed this thoughtful book that addresses the mixed emotions an older child might experience when a new sibling is born.
Recommended for 5+ to read. Suitable to be read to younger children and the themes explained.
I gave it 5 stars because it was soo amazing and if I could I would give it 6 stars. I loved it because she was so excited to have a baby brother and her wish came true--it wasn't a girl, it was a boy! And she was the one that picked the name of the baby. The name of the baby was Noah.
Billie's mom is having a baby and Billie can't wait! She's giving the baby her favorite teddy. Because The Big Sister doesn't need a teddy, right? One of a series full of down-to-earth, real-life, fun, and funny stories that children can enjoy and relate to.
Why is every single beginner reader chapter for young girls involve a character that stamps her foot a bunch? Argh. Ah well, Lil LOVED this one so here we are. O was unimpressed (obv, an 8yo boy is not the target audience).
I had low expectations-- but my kids loved this book and it opened up a good conversation about what will happen when our baby comes -- and how they feel about it!
Billie is a likable character in this early chapter book series. In this installment, Billie is excited that her Mom is having a baby! She plans to give the baby some of her old baby clothes and Mr. Fred, her teddy bear. Will being a big sister be everything Billie hope it will be? Is she really ready to give away Mr. Fred? Find out in this book that's for very young chapter book readers.
8-Sally Rippin, “Billie B Brown: The Big Sister” (Prahran, Victoria, Aust: Hardie Grant Egmont, 2011). Billie wants to give her new baby a teddy!
The 'Billie B Brown' series by Australian author Sally Rippin is a wonderful set of books helping young kids acknowledge and deal with their range of emotions that arise from various childhood predicaments. These books reinforce the positive outcome of good decision making.
This book is a great way to introduce chapter books. The font is very big. I liked this book because it is about babies coming and mine will be here soon! I also think children would be able to relate to this because most of the time the child stays at home with a relative while their parents are at the hospital.
Billie B. is becoming a big sister and has all kinds of mixed emotions about the whole thing. Told very well, with all the ups and downs. Realistic and easy to read. Also, had a fun extra storyline to keep things interesting. Overall a very good book.
Billie B Brown is a great series for the youngest chapter book readers. This book is about Billie becoming an older sister. Interesting story, and great for little girls about to become big sisters.
