Another solid book. Nico develops a good deal here and realizes that he is not like the other dragons. He also gets better at reading and dealing with people (humans; an important distinction in a world with multiple sapient races). This is good, as there is enough residual bluntness to allow him to do his own thing even as his arrogance is tempered.
It's win it all or die for Nico and Cami at this point, and the big players are ante-ing up. Let's see what book 4 has for us.
The characters are well thought out and complex, and show continued growth. There is a great Big Bad that is starting to emerge, and the suspense is building. Looking forward to more in the story!
Ohhhh, man this book was soooooooo good that I started regretting that Tail Smash wasn't longer. This happened long before I got to the end. And even though it had a perfectly acceptable ending I wished for more words, as in where's book4? I need bk4 now! And although I love Neil Hellegers (he's the best Nico, evarrr) I'll be hard pressed to wait the 2 extra months it'll take for the release of audio version!!! This will be totally doable as I can read it twice! In this book Nico is not only growing in size as he advances into his adult body, while relying on Cami his bonded rider. But he’s also growing in character as he's starting to grow in mind too. Exploring the new understanding of the world he’s in. So yeah grab the book and discover Nico's new insights.
Here's a couple of quotes that I found amusing:
"His bowels clenched up so tight he could have made diamonds, and all around him he saw hands shaking."
“No… don’t take it badly. You can’t help what you were born as. You can still be useful.
There are for too many poorly placed interludes. The vast majority of the time just when something is finally about to happen the author switches to a different point of view completely interrupting the flow of the story. Several times those alternate POVs not only interrupt the story, but completely ruin any mystery intention that the story could have otherwise had.
Nico is starting to learn that something is may be wrong with the other dragons. He had met with Draconis and it looks like he will not be getting any help that way. If you want something done, you just have to do it yourself. At least he has Cami to help.
The dragon PoV and mindset is a great take on a series! He is starting to see that some things may need to change if he can save dragon kind. Cami continues to grow into an amazing character. I started this series as it was tied to Welcome to the Multiverse, but it is well worth the read! Neil Hellegers did a fantastic job with the narration!
Series are tough. Rarely do they keep up the story line and evolve while keeping the original intent of growth driven by adversity.
This is a well written story that stays true to original intent while allowing the characters to evolve. It's a tough balance for any author to manage but it's done quite well.
Really loved this book. I love this series so much it’s like dungeons and dragons but with an actual dragon. Nico and Cami are great main characters and I love watching them grow in this book. The magic system is really cool and I loved all of the world building this book. Amazing book great series highly recommend.
Dropped. I couldn't take the poor writing anymore. The author is trying. It's just, for me, the way the characters talk and interact isn't very...human or indivually compelling. All dialogue is shaped to progress the plot the way the author wants to take it. So none of them seemed believable.
I gush over a dragon book treating the dragons like proper dragons and his series continues to deliver. Super fun, great characters, and a exciting story!
This series continues to be fun. I am still loving the characters, especially the dragons. The game system overlaid on the story is a little janky but does not detract from the narrative.
