Cumulative rhyming text (think The House That Jack Built) tell the story of a little boy and his sister on Halloween night. The pictures are great, but the text is uneven. Not every newly introduced phrase is followed by the accumulation of past phrases. It messes with the tempo of reading the book aloud. It could definitely be used as a group read aloud on a Halloween theme, but there are better choices and I probably won't use this one.
I like this book so much, I ended up not using it in my Halloween storytime because I had to many good books and it might be a little long for younger preschool although I think the 3s and 4s could handle it.
This Halloween story is written in repetitive rhyme, the next page repeats the new line that was introduced to the reader. So at the end all the lines is all together. Each page tells a nice line about a child's Halloween night...
