It wasn’t my expectation to fall into bed with the woman who won me at the bachelor auction.
I was only doing my grandma a favor, not looking for more than a shared dinner with the winner. Then again, I wasn’t expecting someone as hot as Isla to be my date.
She makes it clear that she’s down for a night in the sheets but bolts, leaving me holding my junk—literally. Which I figure, in the end, is all fine and good because love burned me before, and I have no plans to repeat that soul-crushing heartbreak.
I took a much-needed vacation from the handyman business I own with my brothers, Rent A Husband, only to return to find out they’d hired Isla, making me her boss.
And now I have to see her every day, and it’s getting harder to pretend I’m not still drawn to her. But I burned that bridge the night she was briefly in my bed, and any lust she had for me has turned to hatred.
Which is for the best because she has a new boyfriend, which is all the motivation I need to stay away from her. Until it’s not.
Piper Rayne is a USA Today Bestselling author duo. Our goal is to bring you romance stories that have "Heartwarming Humor With a Side of Sizzle" (okay...you caught us, that's our tagline). A little about us... We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
This had the makings of being really, really, really great. And then it introduced a couple of areas where we had contradicting plot elements. So, instead of being great, it ended up being only good.
𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Isla gets a job as an administrative assistant at Rent-A-Husband, a service where people can rent a "handyman" to come and do odd jobs around the house that typically a "husband" would do. However, things get a little awkward when it turns out that one of her new bosses happens to be a guy she went on a date with—one that she won in a bachelor auction. She ended up running out the door, leaving him with a stiffy.... To say Travis is a little unhappy to see her is an understatement. But soon, Travis realises that maybe there was a bit more to his connection with Isla. Unfortunately, he realises this too late, as now she has a boyfriend, and there's nothing he can do about it...
𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨: The beginning of this was squee-inducing, it started off so well as it set the awkward tension foundation between Travis and Isla and you could feel that instant attraction between them bleed off the pages. Neither of them wanted to participate in the Auction (her buying him selling...himself) but their nosey grandmothers thrust them together and they needed to make the most of it. Then the story fell apart a little...
Isla is pretty shy initially but through the book, you see how that isn't who she is once she breaks down her walls and opens up. She is determined to do a good job and doesn't want to let anybody down. I like the fact that she was quick to speak her mind and communicated how she felt and what thoughts were going on in her head. Travis is very grumpy. He is kind of an arsehole all the time and doesn't want to be around anyone. He's disengaged, a lone wolf who likes the quiet of nature where he can fish in peace and just likes being alone in his own company.
The relationship between Travis and Isla was there, but it wasn’t quite there. I felt like most of the time the two of them were just constantly fighting or at each other's throats over some misunderstanding, miscommunication, or some aspect they didn’t talk about. I struggled to see the chemistry between them. There were hints of it, sparks and a few moments of sweetness. But there were also moments where they didn’t seem compatible. A lot of their attraction is meant to be believed because you are "told" they are attracted to each other because they seem to have conversations and connections spoken about in "metaphorical time passing" so I didn't always see where the whole connection between them came from.
I do have to say that there were genuinely sweet, cute, corny, rom-com moments of gold and overall the writing flowed well making this easy to read and enjoy, while still keeping a relatively low-angst vibe. It made the slow burn between them kind of nice. I liked the little-found family dynamic, especially with the brothers' antics and how the girls finagle themselves into their lives. It was nice seeing cameos of Camilla and Lucas and how their story had progressed. It was just sweet to be back in this world.
I did wish we got a bit more of the grandparents, as we did in Lucas and Camilla’s book. They were mentioned a couple of times, but besides the early scene with the grandmothers, they weren't as prominent as they were in the previous book. I wanted to see more of that family dynamic, especially because family is so important to Travis. And I wanted to see the Grandmothers meddle a little more in Isla and Travis's relationship for the drama of it.
One of the main things that put me off was three plot contradictions that made me question whether I was being gaslit or not. I had to go back and verify that I wasn't mistaken in what I was reading. None of these things are major to the overall plot or story but they just threw me a little and disrupted my reading experience.
𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨 and 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨:: ▶ Dual POV ▶ Hidden Identity ▶ Grumpy X Sunshine ▶ Workplace Romance (He is one of her Bosses) ▶ Mine ▶ "Fuck It" ▶ Forced Proximity ▶ Almost One Night Stand
Overall I did enjoy this and the the overarching plot was enjoyable... With a little more polish I think it could have been great!

//
After reading “Rent a Husband” and enjoying the story so much that it was a 5 ✨, I had high expectations for “Buy a Boyfriend”.
I thought the story started off super fun with the bachelor auction, where Travis's grandmother and Isla's grandmother agreed to bring the two of them together, with Isla's grandmother "buying" Travis.
However, it seems that the story kind of got lost and didn't deliver all the potential it had. I think the reason for the first disagreement was very weak and even with the justification that was given, it didn't make much sense... I honestly expected a lot more.
Overall it was a good story to pass time, I just didn't think it was as well thought out and developed as the first book.
This book was pretty cute. I loved the story and got emotionally invested! I loved how everything played out between Travis and Isla. Of course once I saw the name Travis and how he was described I immediately went to Travis Kelce for my visual (I need help! 🤣). Their story was so sweet and a real Grumpy x Sunshine one. I loved the Abbott Brothers in the book. I'm definitely going to check out Rent A Husband - the first in the series. This Lucas and Camila's story. They are of course mentioned in the book and how they met. The story was really well written and pretty descriptive which was good. It's told in first person from the perspectives of Isla and Travis. It really does work in this genre. I really recommend this to you all. Especially if you love the Grumpy x Sunshine trope!
Updated 9/25 audiobook review: Lee Samuel’s and Vanessa Edwin deliver a fanatic performance. I really enjoyed this listen and how narrators being an authors words to life. They give the listener a whole new experience and bring amazing personality, voice and emotion to the characters. A fantastic listen!!
A fun and delightful read full of laughs, swoon, a meddling grandma and a sweet love story. A workplace romance that will have you falling in love with these characters. Travis and Isla are “set up” and go on a date to appease the charity contribution. They try to deny their feels and use working together as an excuse not to date…but they can’t fight it any more. They have great banter, conversations and passion! Love this story and everything the author writes!
I found the theme of this book interesting, so I decided to give it a chance😊. I was able to read an early copy of the book thanks to Ashton Everly and Valentine Pr. Thank you!
Travis was pushed by his grandma to participate in a auction for a good cause. But here was the grandma of Isla too, who plotted for her to have Travis for a date. Everything goes in gradma's way, only Travis and Isla don't have the best end at their first date.
They won't see each other for a while, until Isla founds out that she is working at the same company as he is. Travis and his brothers, Josh and Lucas, own a little company called Rent-A Husband. Even though Travis is still so very much attracted to Isla, he finds out that she has a boyfriend now and he becomes even grumpier when he is around them.
I really enjoyed the brotherhood in this story. They were funny and I liked the way they treated Isla. All of them became a big family, everyone loving Isla, something Travis found it hard because he needed to see her all the time.
Both Travis and Isla had some issues from the past which marked them and made them feel unsure on their own person, but they will soon find out that opening up about their struggles is the right thing to do, to start healing.
It seems that I enjoy the books where auctions are involved, because recently I read another one and I liked that one too🤭. I'm looking forward for the next book of this series, which I'm sure it's going to be as good as this one💙.
Reading Everly Ashton's latest book, Buy a Boyfriend, was such an enjoyable experience. I spent a few fun hours with Travis and Isla. Travis is the classic grumpy character who only shows his softer side to his closest friends and family, while Isla is the total opposite—she’s like a ray of sunshine. I’m a big fan of the opposites-attract trope, and Buy a Boyfriend didn’t disappoint. Isla and Travis hit it off instantly, but things go wrong pretty quickly, and their night doesn’t exactly go as planned. When they end up working together, things get a bit awkward.
Overall, I really enjoyed Buy a Boyfriend, but there were moments when I didn’t fully connect with the characters. Some of their actions didn’t quite make sense to me—like Isla running out of Travis’s house. Her reason didn’t feel strong enough. Don’t get me wrong, she’s totally allowed to change her mind, but I feel like she could’ve just told him the truth or said something like, “I’m not feeling it anymore,” instead of making a lame excuse about being late for work. Especially after Travis opened up to her. I also didn’t always get Travis’s behavior, but despite that, I had a great time reading this book. The writing style is fun and easy to read. The plot isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s funny, and I really liked the whole “Buy a Boyfriend” concept.
3.5⭐️ This book started off so well. The tension between Isa and Travis on top of the insta-attraction was 🤌🏽 And thennn we have an *almost* one night stand and I was so frustrated as to why this even happened 😂 it was hard to picture the development of their relationship and feelings towards each other because, like book one of the Abbott Brothers, I feel like it fast forwards and skips over a lot, although the flow of writing was gold. Travis is grumpy, all the time, and Isla comes across and shy and reserved and backboneless at times. There were definitely sweet and cute and romcom moments. A few things that didn’t really make sense to me? Isla saying she has no family there but she literally met Travis through their grandmothers at the auction. And Mel, or should I say Amy? The waitress, why did her name change? I wish we would have seen more of the grandparents like we did in Lucas and Camila’s story, I adored them. It did pick up towards the end and I ended up enjoying the story but overall just left me wanting a little more.
Thank you to Everly Ashton and Valentine PR for my gifted copy of Buy A Boyfriend. Available now!
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Travis was doing his grandmother a favor and agreed to a bachelor auction. Isla bought a date with him. Everything was going great until she ran out on him during an intimate moment.
Travis doesn’t want to fall in love, he doesn’t want his heart broken again. He took a vacation from a handyman business he runs with his brothers, Rent A Husband. He returns and finds out that Isla now works there as an administrative assistant.
They constantly fight and are at each other’s throats, but the chemistry between them was sizzling. I loved their heated hunter and conversations.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a boss/employee, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity romance then you’re going to love it.
Eddie .. I mean Travis Edward Abbott may be a grumpy, loner most of the time but his grandmother can always rope him into anything . Which is why we find Travis going by his middle name of Eddie, at a bachelor auction night for his grandmothers retirement community fundraiser L O L . After a HILARIOUS auction moment, Travis is bought by wonderful old woman who actually gifts him away to her granddaughter, Isla . An incredible awkward first date quickly turns into horn dog season but Isla leaves him high and dry (FOR GOOD REASON!!!) . Travis decides a two week camping/fishing trip into the mountains is exactly what he needs .. but all relaxation is gone when he comes back into town to find out that Isla has been hired as their new office manager and he now has to spill that he lied about his name and who he was . I need book 3 asap lol !
This is book 2 in The Abbott Brothers series and it can be read as a complete standalone .
This audiobook was given to me for honest review by Valentine PR + Literary Management .
Buy a Boyfriend was an adorable and charming read! It all kicks off with a bachelor auction, which was a fun way to set the stage for this sweet romance. Travis had me hooked from the start. There's just something about a man who works with his hands, and his woodworking skills only made him more irresistible. He’s the kind of rugged handyman you can’t help but swoon over!
Then there’s Isla, who was simply perfect. She’s cute and innocent, but she’s also got this strength and passion that make her stand out. As a book lover, I couldn’t help but appreciate her love for books, which added even more depth to her character. Travis and Isla together were a match made in heaven. It felt like a well-crafted piece of furniture, every detail fitting together perfectly!!
I loved how grumpy the MMC was in this book & how the FMC had no problem putting him in his place.
This one starts really fun, with the FMC "winning" the MMC in a boyfriend auction. There's lots of tension because of a forced proximity situation and add in the other brothers, there's lots of laughs.
You get: • Contemporary Romance • Spicy • One Night Stand To More • Forced Proximity • Boss/Employee • Second Chance • Small Town
I really enjoyed this series. Available on KU, ebook, paperback, and audiobook.
Travis and Isla first meet at the Bachelor Auction hosted by some horny grannies. (And why are most grannies from romance novels horny?) It’s a bit of a set-up as Travis is actually being bought for Isla to go on a date with. Their first date starts off slow but by the end of the evening it’s back to Travis’s house for a sleepover. But the night ends abruptly, mid-session, when Isla bolts with no explanation. Chalk it up to a bad almost one night stand, until Travis goes into work one day to find Isla is the company’s new hire. Uh oh!
The premise of this story was super cute and was what originally drew me to the story. But apart from being the meet cute - the auction really has no bearing on the rest of the story. And while it’s well paced, we move forward in time in chunks - up to as much as a year. It made the flow of the story quite odd at times.
As we got to know Travis, he really didn’t endear himself to me at first. He was unnecessarily grumpy and I couldn’t understand why. But after he was ditched by Isla, I was 100% team Travis. But he also got a lot less grumpy after this event. Or maybe it was that he now had something to be legitimately grumpy about. But he was a likeable character, trying to deny his attraction to Isla but unable to do so. I was happy to root for him. Lee Samuels was the perfect voice for Travis. He was believable, performed the part well and his voice was extremely easy to listen to.
I enjoyed the character of Isla for the most part. She was fun to get to know and came across as kind and loving. But she was completely clouded for me by her reasoning for ditching Travis. Not only was it extremely juvenile but the way she gaslit him into thinking it was his somehow his fault by going on a pseudo-feminist rant. I. Was. Peeved. She had to work hard to get my back on side after that. But she did for the most part. Helpfully, she was voiced by the incomparable Maxine Mitchell. I love her narration and she really became Isla for me.
I liked Travis and Isla as a couple when they finally got together. They had good chemistry and seemed to be a good match. It was also nice that we got to see them being a couple for a good while. It’s something you don’t always get to see so I enjoyed that. The audio was in duet meaning that it was like our couple were talking to each other. Sometimes it felt a little stilted - showing that that the recordings had been spliced together rather than free flowing like a true conversation. But it was still easy to listen to.
This was a nice introduction into Everly Ashton’s stories. There were some issues that stopped it getting a higher rating from me (not least the stupidity towards the end and the abrupt ending after that!) but the writing was good and I could definitely be tempted by another of her stories in the future. The narration was exemplary but as a whole, it’s 3 stars for this book.
Travis cannot get his almost ons out of his mind, but he doesn't want to keep thinking of the woman who ran out on him. He's been burned before, and it really messed with his self-confidence. Then he comes back to the company he owns with his brothers and finds they've hired HER. Yep, now he has to face Isla every day and it's driving him nuts.
Travis can't even stand being in the same room as Isla, which is a problem considering she now works for his family company. If he only knew the real reason she cut short what was supposed to be a memorable night. But he can't stand her, so she's moving on. She never realized that moving on would spur Travis into acting on the tension between them, though. The bachelor auction is finally living up to its promise. They'll just have to overcome Travis' baggage, though.
This is a sweet, relatively slow burn rom com. I love the grumpy/sunshine aspect - Travis is the very definition of grumpy and Isla's a sassy sweetheart whose sparks kept me reading. These Abbot Brothers are awesome, now I'm very impatiently waiting for Josh and Nova's story next, Lease a Lover.

Tropes: frenemies to lovers, second chance, workplace romance, billionaire romance, right guy wrong time, romcom, forced proximity
Review: GAHHH! Everly Ashton gives us a laugh out loud workplace romance in Buy A Boyfriend! Isla and Travis are the epitome of a “right person, wrong time” romance and the first chapter was one of my favorite chapters ever! From the beginning these two have a burning chemistry that is unparalleled. Everly was able to craft two characters who fed off each other in both the good and terrible ways but also provided SO. MUCH. BANTER! Buy A Boyfriend is a read perfect for anyone needing a light hearted yet raw romcom guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
Isla was a hoot and also a fiery FMC who I stood behind until the end. I found her story to be one of personal growth and witty retorts. Everly really did everything in her power to make us fall hard for the sassy assistant to the Abbott bothers and personally the wit, banter and snark she had throughout this book provided just enough tension with Travis that it kept me entertained but also wising for the next big show down.
Travis Abbott was a man who had some demons. Everly was able to capture all of his hardships in ways that bought some real and raw emotions to his POV while also providing the roadblocks necessary to give us an angst filled romance. I appreciated the way Everly gave us a MMC who needed to grow and evolve in this book but also needed to heal deep wounds. The relationship he and Isla have in this book is beautiful to read and also one that showcases a ton of hard ups and downs.
Buy A Boyfriend is a hilarious read that made me laugh constantly. Isla and Travis were a well matched couple but also one that fit into the other’s broken pieces. Everly was amazing in this book and I will be going to read book 1 now!
Rating: 4.5/5, A laugh out loud frenemies to lovers workplace romance guaranteed to entertain you until the end!

Tropes: frenemies to lovers, second chance, workplace romance, billionaire romance, right guy wrong time, romcom, forced proximity
Review: Buy A Boyfriend was a laugh out loud book and an even better audiobook. Lee Samuels and Maxine Mitchell were PHENOMENAL in this audiobook narration and I found myself cracking up all throughout this audio! Everly truly knew what she was doing picking these two and in my own opinion Maxine Mitchell was the bee’s knees in this book. She perfected Isla’s character and had me sucked in from chapter 1 with the way she could emote and draw out the anticipation. Lee Samuels also did a great job with Travis and bringing to life the way he was grumpy, broody and full of ever changing emotions!
Lee and Maxine were perfectly paired and almost fed off one another while narrating the story. I cannot express how much this book should be listened to and have to say it was a solid 5 star audiobook from start to finish!
Rating: 5/5, A laugh out loud frenemies to lovers workplace romance guaranteed to entertain you until the end!

This is my first book by this author and definitely won’t be my last. After reading the blurb it really sounded like something I’d enjoy and I’m so glad I trusted my instincts because I really enjoyed this book!
You’ll enjoy this book if you like these tropes… ♡
✿ Hidden Identity ♡ Grumpy > Sunshine ✿ Workplace Romance ♡ “Fuck It” ✿ Forced Proximity ♡ Almost One Night Stand ✿ Band of Brothers ♡ Blind Date ✿ Blue Collar Hero ♡ Will They, Won’t They ✿ Opposites Attract ♡ Neighbours-to-Lovers
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this, as Everly Ashton is a new author to me but the blurb grabbed hold of me so I thought I would take a chance and I’m so pleased I did. It was such a sweet, fun, cute and entertaining read.
Travis is your classic grumpy hero. He was moody, stand-offish, and hard to get to know, he had a hard exterior making it difficult to get to know him and difficult for people to get close to him. However, those close to him see his softer side and they know him for who he is.
This being an opposites attract, our main heroine of the story Isla is quite literally the opposite of him. She’s bubbly, outgoing, beautiful, a pure sweetheart and a ray of sunshine. You can’t help but smile when you are around her. She’s such a positive light.
The moment Travis and Isla crossed paths and locked eyes one night. They hit it off immediately, however, things are never that perfect and before long things start to go wrong what started as an amazing night quickly goes south when things don’t exactly go to plan… what makes it worse? They end up having to work with one another.
The constant bickering at each other, the way they were at each other’s throats just made it even more obvious that these two were meant to be together and it made for a good laugh and great entertainment. I laughed, I swooned and I also wanted to climb into and knock Travis and Isla's heads together. The chemistry between these two was undeniable from the beginning. It was instant attraction, even though it was opposites. It was instant lust that only intensified the more time they spent together growing into so much more than just lust.
Overall, it was extremely well written, the story flowed so easily and it was so easy to get lost inside the story and become addicted to everything these two characters did. I couldn’t help but root for them. Opposites or not, you can just tell they were meant to be.
I’m so glad I took a chance on this author. I’ve gone and added the rest of her backlist to my TBR. I can’t wait to see what else the author has up her sleeve!
A nice short story that was wonderfully executed by narrators Lee Samuels and Vanessa Edwin! They did an amazing job duet style which I absolutely loved. They helped showcase Everley Ashton sweet book Buy A Boyfriend into something special!
Ok this gonna be quick…. Travis coming off a bad relationship didn’t know what to expect when he fall into bed with a woman who won him at the bachelor action his grandmother dragged him to. But later on after things took a bizarre turn between them where she just up and left..Travis just couldn’t help feeling a bit bereft and slighted after her hasty retreat. He thought he wouldn’t see this girl ever again but boy was he wrong !
Isla went along with her grandmother craziness of purchasing the most gorgeous man she had ever seen at the action.. she was only too happy to be going on a date which ended up with them back at his place all hot and bothered, but before things could go anywhere she had to make a hasty retreat which the guy she just met took none too nicely.. his remarks was disappointing and she was even a bit glad they had not ended up sleeping together. Although given what happened she couldn’t get him out of her mind. But just as she thought that was the last she would see of him .. he turned out to be her boss well one of as it’s the three brothers who owns the establishment she now works for.
So listen .. Travis bolted because he couldn’t handle being in such close proximity to the woman that bolted after literally palming his Ah-Hem junk .. but yeah he left but when he returned she had a boyfriend which shouldn’t have concern him but yeah both Travis and Isla started to feel that they may have some unfinished connection between them.. yeah they need to communicate and dissect what really happened that night she left abruptly.
This audiobook was a quick listen for me .. I was totally engaged in the story .. this was my first audiobook by this Author and I thoroughly enjoyed it and would listen the next installment in the next book .
Again Lee Samuels and Vanessa Edwin pairing was perfect as they brought Travis and Isla Character to life Duet style! Absolutely brilliant performance from them both!
Please give this one a listen I definitely recommend it!

Thanks for reading my Review and Ratings of this ALC provided by Valentine PR with my appreciation!
I am so glad that Everly Ashton returned to the Abbott Brothers series! I really loved Lucas and Cami's story, and it's been a few years -- I wasn't sure if we would see the other Rent-A-Husband guys find love, but here we are!
Travis and Isla first meet when their grandmothers set them up at a bachelor auction (aka the Buy a Boyfriend title). Not wanting the bidders to know his true identity, Travis goes by his middle name, Eddie, for the auction, and that his hobby of carpentry is his job. The two go on a great first date, but then as things get hot and heavy back at Eddie's house, Isla bolts... leaving Eddie, who is already feeling a little insecure about returning to the dating scene again after a bad breakup, dejected and rejected.
The following week, Isla starts a new job as the admin at Rent A Husband handyman service, but the third Abbott brother is out of town on vacation. So when Travis returns to the office, they are both *shocked* to see the other one. Add in her having a boyfriend when he returns months later from setting up the company's second office, and Travis and Isla get off to a rocky start!
I thought the reason why Isla bolted from Travis' apartment that first night was kind of lame (it was embarrassing, but nothing I think necessitated that kind of swift exit without an explanation). But I get that led to Travis being a grade-A jerk to Isla when they cross paths again in the office. Once they were able to get past that, this was actually quite a sweet second-chance romance. It's relatively low-angst, with no third-act breakup. Travis gets caught up inside his head there for a while, and there are some strained weeks between them, but it's resolved with a sweet gesture that ties up the story with a pretty bow at the end.
As I was reading Buy a Boyfriend, I went back and forth between the ebook and the audio, perfectly narrated in duet by Lee Samuels and Vanessa Edwin.
One thing that I would have liked to have seen more of was the grandmothers. They had such a strong part in setting up Travis and Isla in the beginning and then just... disappeared? Travis' grandmother showed up a few times later on in the book, but Isla's grandmother was nowhere to be found. She was briefly mentioned once as being part of the senior center where Isla is part of the book club (the same center that the auction was held for), but when discussing her family background with Travis, she didn't even mention her grandmother. It was a plot hole that I thought could have been better filled. And I think there was a missed opportunity for the grandmas to meddle before Travis and Isla got together again.
There were a few other points that I thought could have been explored more (like the run-in with his ex and the suddenness of the epilogue), but overall, I thought this was a entertaining story with solid characters, a cute secret relationship/second-chance romance, and an entertaining cast of secondary characters.
I can't wait to learn what's going on with Josh and Nova! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
This is my first Everly Ashton story and I found it really enjoyable, funny and sweet. I listened to the audiobook of this book and Lee Samuels and Maxine Mitchell are excellent narrating this story..Their comedy timings and the expressions in their voices are fabulous, both narrators acting skills are great and so obvious that Lee and Maxine are very talented voice actors..I loved listening to them perform the characters Travis and Isla plus the side characters also. Buy a Boyfriend is well written by Everly Ashton I loved the wit and banter and how the whole journey played out between Travis and Isla. Travis and Isla's grandmas set them up in the guise of a charity auction were Travis is one of the guys being auctioned for a date...Isla's gran wins the date paying a handsome amount of money for the date with Travis...But the date is not for her its for her grandaughter Isla. Isla had no clue her gran planned the whole thing to set up a date with Travis...Anyway the date goes well and then goes wrong and they part on bad terms. They don't expect to see one another again until Isla starts a new job and one of her new bosses is Travis. Well you can cut the tension with a knife between them and so Travis leaves to work in Seattle for 9 months but when he comes back the tension remains, but Isla is off limits. The misunderstanding of that date night won't go away until it is resolved, and both Travis and Isla have issues in their pasts that made them interpret that night differently. If they would have been honest with one another at the time their would have been no upset and they could have been something special. Can they still be something special or is it too late to fix anything.? The Love/Hate thing can't last because the chemistry is too potent in the air when they are close to eachother. I was really interested to see how this relationship between Isla and Travis would go,because they seem to just try to avoid one another. I loved listening to this workplace romance with a little bit of enemies to lovers vibe in the mix too.. This was a pleasure to listen to and thoroughly entertaining, fun and sexy. Brilliant audiobook. 5 Stars.

If they would have been honest with one another at the time their would have been no upset and they could have been something special. Can they still be something special or is it too late to fix anything? The Love/Hate thing can't last because the chemistry is too potent in the air when they are close to each other. I was really interested to see how this relationship between Isla and Travis would go, because they seem to just try to avoid one another. I loved listening to this workplace romance with a little bit of enemies to lovers vibe in the mix too. This was a pleasure to listen to and thoroughly entertaining, fun and sexy. Brilliant audiobook. 5 Stars.- Cat W.
This was a cute book which I was lucky enough to get as an ALC, so thank you to Everly Ashton and Valentine PR for the chance to listen to this one.
Oh I had such a hard time with Travis through a lot of this book. There is grumpy and then there is Travis Abbott grumpy and for a good chunk of the story he's a complete asshat. However, when you get the breaks in that grumpy exterior to the gooey sweet, romantic Travis, the one that Isla breaks through to...oh my **swoon**. Yes please!
Isla is a sweet character who comes off shy but when she finds her footing, she just lets you have it! No holding back! I liked that about her. She really knew how to crack the tough exterior of Travis' and peel him back to reveal that swoony man. You Go Girl! These two have some great spice together as well!
I enjoyed all the awkward tension between Travis and Isla...you knew they had that instant attraction but they couldn't quite get there. Love the idea of a bachelor auction for the meet cute, , especially when it was set up by their grandma's and neither of them wanted to be there. The book club OMG - I need to find a geriatric one because it seems those ladies have the best fun! It was so great to see how Isla just slid her way into Travis' family and he's just like **what the hell happened**! Pay attention Mr. Abbott!
The narration was great and thought Lee (my first time listening to a book he voiced) and Maxine did a wonderful job bringing Travis & Isla off the pages....Duet narration is my favorite and makes it so much easier to envision the scenes in my head :)
The book flowed well so it makes for an enjoyable read. This is book 2 in the series but it can easily be read without having read book 1 first (this is my case). It's easy to follow along with the characters and their relationships (I love the brothers together). :)
Thanks again to Everly and Valentine PR for the read. It was fun!
Such and enjoyable read! It felt comfortable overall and this is the feeling that, I would say, takes over the story. I will get back to this point in a minute – let me tell you what this is all about.
Isla’s won a date with a super hot guy, through her grandmother who, without Isla’s knowledge, bought the guy for her. They go out and have a lovely evening together, trying and succeeding at finding balance around each other. When they decide to take the big step forward (ya know, the one after kissing), she bolts out of his house with a lousy excuse. Some days later, it turns out that the guy is none other than Travis Abbott, one of her 3 bosses. How’s that for a weird situation?
The story is not complicated at all, it does not have the excruciating tension between characters. There is a twist, but that’s more of a self thing. As I was mentioning a few lines above, it feels comfortable. From their first meeting, until they reconnect and give into their emotions, the story felt cozy. The support of the family and friendship also add to that. The part that I loved most was the self-confidence element. Travis has issues and when he is faced with his past, everything comes back to him. The desire to be enough to someone, the desire of being accepted with flaws and having his strengths appreciated was well analyzed in the book.
At some point in the story, however, the action felt dragged somehow and there were some repetitive paragraphs. The relationship Isla has with her grandmother could have been more explored, considering that the charming lady was actually the one who set them up in the first place, but I did like that the friendship between the girls was not forced – it felt natural.
The audiobook is amazing! Lee Samuels & Maxine Mitchell are awesome! They did justice to our characters and the part I liked best was how the awkwardness was gave off in the narration. Lee Samuels did justice to Travis’ insecurities and Maxine Mitchell was amazing portraying the confidence that Isla tried to bestow onto her lover.
There is tension; there is passion, secrecy and the warm feeling of family and friendship. One cannot go wrong when picking this book. Suffice to say I devoured it in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop cheering for our characters to solve their issues and just kiss and make love already!
This was a very cute read. Meddling grandmothers, workplace romance, forced proximity; when you put this and more together, you get Buy a Boyfriend. A continuation of The Abbott Brothers, this book focusing on Travis.
Travis and Isla think they meet on their own, but their meddling grandmother’s planned their meeting from the beginning. At an auction, Travis is “won” by Isla. As the time for their date comes, it starts off ok, but after some miscommunications, it just ends badly. Although Travis is attracted to Isla, they go their separate ways.
Sometime later, Travis and Isla run into each other again, at work. Travis is still attracted to her, but Isla has a boyfriend now. This leads Travis to become grumpy when he is around her. As Isla becomes more involved with the business, therefore Travis’ family, their relationship begins to develop a bit more. His family adores her, which causes her to be around more.
Everly writes easy to read, rom-coms; that are filled with witty banter, swoony worth moments, and spice that hits just write. She ensures our beloved Abbott brothers are still front and center within this book and family being a theme also. The brotherhood the Abbott’s have is beautiful to see and run to read about. A shorter book, so easy to read quickly.
I look forward to the next book in this series, can’t wait to see more of the Abbott family antics, and see what Everly has in mind for our last brother!!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 🔧Dual POV 💜Hidden Identity 🔧Grumpy X Sunshine 💜Workplace Romance 🔧Forced Proximity 💜Almost One Night Stand
I just finished reading Buy a Boyfriend by Everly Ashton, and I have to say, it was such a delightful experience! This romantic comedy really had me hooked from the very beginning. The premise—a bachelor auction—immediately caught my attention, and I found myself laughing and swooning throughout the story.
The main characters, Isla and the charming bachelor, had incredible chemistry. I loved how their relationship developed from a quirky auction win to something much deeper. Isla is such a strong and relatable character; I admired her independence and determination. Watching her navigate her feelings for the male lead was both entertaining and heartwarming.
Ashton’s writing style is witty and engaging, which made it easy for me to get lost in the story. The dialogue sparkled with humor, and I appreciated how she balanced light-hearted moments with more serious themes. It’s always refreshing when a rom-com can delve into personal growth while keeping the fun alive.
That said, I did notice that some plot points felt a bit predictable. A few familiar romance tropes popped up, which might not surprise seasoned readers. However, I found that these moments didn’t detract from my enjoyment—they were still fun to read!
Overall, I’d give Buy a Boyfriend a solid four stars. It’s an entertaining read that perfectly blends humor and romance. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh and leave you with a warm feeling, this one is definitely worth picking up! Everly Ashton has created a charming story that I won’t soon forget.
The beginning was absolutely delectable, with Travis and Isla’s awkward tension and that instant attraction just jumping off the pages. They didn’t want to be at the Auction—her buying him and him selling himself—but their meddling grandmothers pushed them together, and it was a fun setup. The first date was going well, they were getting tipsy, Trav worked up the courage to invite Isla back to his place... and then BAM! We were all c*ck-blocked. The tension after finishing that chapter was intense.
Travis by Lee Samuels: Grumpy and reserved, how I like most of my men. He's also the classic lone wolf who prefers the solitude of nature over social interactions. He’s deeply connected to his family but seriously struggles to express his emotions, hence the whole MONTHS LONG span of miscommunication going on. Underneath his tough exterior is a protective nature and fierce loyalty to those he cares about.
Isla by Maxine Mitchell: She's presented to us as a shy and reserved FMC, but her character evolves as the story progresses, and as her relationship with Travis starts to change. She’s determined, passionate, and unafraid to speak her mind. She has a deep desire for independence and a strong drive to prove herself.
There were some genuinely cute and funny rom-com moments that kept things light. The writing flowed nicely, making it an easy read, and I enjoyed the slow burn!
Bookish Buddies, you already know I need my FMC’s to be great.
The whole story starts off with a miscommunication (more like non-communication) and while things do smooth out, and it’s a fairly steady fall into love from that point on, with a few stumbles along the way, it just set a steep bar for my personal journey and I really didn’t connect with our girl.
She just bolts after (willingly and enthusiastically) starting smeggsy time with our MMC - with zero explanation (like runs away, calls an Uber, and just leaves with nary a goodbye), waits literally weeks to reach out to him (but never does), and then is taken aback when he’s less than welcoming upon a surprise re-meeting? The lack of self-awareness (for the FMC’s age) was, initially, off-putting.
But. Girl REDEEMS herself and then some! I was really impressed with her maturity, willingness to stand up against those demeaning or bullying friends, even if she was still a little quick to jump to a conclusion without talking about things.
Regardless, my hesitancy with this story is solely on me - I have a hard time with “miscommunication” tropes.
That aside, the narrators were absolutely amazing! I swear it seemed like they must have been in the same room with For Real Life chemistry because it just SIZZLED through the headphones! Omigoodness! Fantastic!!!
And if I bolted from a guy’s house after initiating smeggsy time, with no forewarning, no explanation, despite having a good reason, I’d flipping reach out ASAP and apologize for my rude AF behavior. Not wait weeks and then be insulted when I’m not met with smiles and hugs…
Overall, the Abbot Brothers win again in this sweet love story!
Not a bad story, just overall boring in an over the top quick cutesy romance. Travis and Isla meet when their grandma’s set them up at an auction. After a insta lust connection, things go awry when Isla abruptly leaves their date. They don’t see each other again for a month, soon realizing she works for Travis and his brother’s construction company. First off the reason why Isla abruptly left was so idiotic, I could have thought of a better reason. What day and age is it where you can’t discuss when you get your period with your date. And how Travis was so angry she left, and that she had to have a reason why. Why can’t she just leave cause she isn’t feeling the date anymore. Also she’s dating someone else, and then as soon as they break up, she goes directly to Travis and hooks up with him. I felt like this book could have ended quicker and I was just pushing forward to finish it. The story was okay- just a little too childish and cutesy for me. And also not much happens in the whole book. And the ending with the fire was just so random and came out of nowhere. I just felt like things were thrown in the book to just check off some boxes that it is a romance book. Overall, it was okay if you want a fun, quick, spicy romance but I won’t be picking it up again.

4.25 stars. Travis, the male lead, met Isla, the female lead at the bachelor auction his grandmother organised when her grandmother bought a date with him (under his middle name) for her. Whilst the meal went well, later into the evening definitely did not, leaving them both feeling rejected and hurt.
When Travis found Isla was the new admin assistant his brother had hired for their business, he promptly took work as far from home base as possible. Now, nine months later, they are finding themselves in closer proximity, and the mutual attraction hasn’t gone anywhere. When Isla breaks up with her boyfriend, they find themselves exploring their emotions and the previous situation. Can they get past their emotional baggage to create something new and beautiful?
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary, boss/employee, misunderstandings romance. I empathised with both characters’ concerns. I enjoyed Isla’s sense of self-worth and her willingness to choose the right thing for her. I appreciated Travis’ willingness to apologise for his faulty interpretation of a situation. I enjoyed the relationship development. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters and the importance of family.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
A reluctant bachelor in a bachelor auction trying to help support his gram’s cause & a quiet granddaughter trying to keep the reigns on her enthusiastic grandma quickly turns into an auctioned date between a sexy handyman & the gorgeous new girl in town. I loved how the chemistry & easiness between Travis & Isla was instantaneous. I loved how they were able to be their true selves with each other from the start…well, except for one minor detail. But when an excellent date suddenly went awry, an enemies to lovers trope was born. As the last brother in the boss trio of Isla’s new job, she’s determined to play it professional. But Travis is having a hard time letting go of the amazing night that turned sour. But putting their differences aside & talking out their setbacks proved to be exactly what these two needed to find their HEA. This book was a cute & witty read highlighting the grumpy Abbott & the sunshiny Isla. Their chemistry & banter was fun & sexy, & I loved watching them fall harder for each other. Travis was a total teddy bear & exactly the type of man that Isla needed & deserved.
Audiobook Review: Lee Samuels & Vanessa Edwin delivered another excellent performance capturing the personalities of Travis & Isla. The grumpy/sunshine persona & then the enemies to lovers banter was perfectly on point.
Buy a Boyfriend is a cute workplace romance and my first book by Everly Ashton.
I really liked the setup of this romance where the hero is entered into a bachelor auction for a senior citizen home. It was also a plan by their grandma's to play matchmaker between Travis and Isla. They hit it off immediately on their date, but Isla leaves in the middle of their hookup, and things get more complicated when she gets a job at his company, Rent-A-Husband. Travis was upset and felt like she rejected him, so he decided to work out of town on their business. When he finally returns home, he discovers that Isla has a boyfriend. They are still really attracted to each other and have to get over the miscommunication that ended their date.
I was honestly shocked with how fast this wrapped up at the end, and I didn't feel like their actual issues were resolved or worked through after their run-in with his ex. I was confused when the epilogue started already when I thought there was much more that needed to be explored with their relationship.
🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
I flew through this audiobook in one sitting. It was very fast-paced and easy to get into. I loved that this audiobook had duet narration, which is my favorite. Lee Samuels and Venessa Edwin did a great job performing together and bringing the perfect banter and chemistry.
Thank you to Valentine PR, the Publishers and the author Everly Ashton for letting me read & review this advanced book copy. This is the first book I have read by this author that is the second installment in The Abbott Brothers Series that releases Tuesday September 24th 2024.
The female main character Isla gets a new job working as a Administrative Assistant at a service company called Rent A Husband. The male main character Travis owns a service company named Rent A Husband with his brothers. This company is where people can rent out a "temporary husband" who fills his rented time as a handy many who does weird jobs like fixing things in a house that a real time husband would normally do. Travis is one of Isla's bosses who she met prior to working at his company; she won a date with him from an auction. They had went on a no strings attached almost one night stand dinner date. Talk about awkward! This romance is adorably beautiful along with having hilarious moments with a hint of great banter. My favorite part was how awkward Isla was with Travis after learning he's her boss. It was so cute. Their chemistry with one another was outstanding. This novel also had amazing book tropes, which are:
-Hidden Identity -Forced Proximity -Workplace Romance - Almost One Night Stand -Grumpy/Sunshine -Boss/Employee
