“Mightier Than the Sword” starts with a TV gossip program speculating on whther Barbara Gordon has tamed Bruce Wayne’s playboy spirit?
Eeew!
In the same program Dr. Harleen Quinzel has been released from Arkham Asylum after having been declared legally sane. She’s also signed a major book deal for a tell-all about her years with the Joker!
The Batman created by credits still only give Bob Kane credit!
This causes Joker to escape from Arkham, making Poison Ivy very angry that he’s going to kill Harley.
Harley in the meantime is being hidden away in a fleabag hotel by her publisher where she is expected to write a bestseller. The new book is going to do better than the one’s she wrote back when she was a full-time head shrinker. “Psycho Killers and the Women that Love Them Too Much” and “I’m Okay, You’re Okay, He’s Kind of Weird”.
The Joker is threatening the publishers life if he does not reveal where Harley is. Which he does.
Nightwing and Robin drop in on Harley to offer her protection, but she doesn’t want it and runs. Right into the Joker.
They fight. It’s actually glorious. Both a supervillain fight and a ex-lovers quarrel.
”What, just because I said I wanted to kill you? Come on baby… you used to love that!”
That’s was just well, both extremely relatable and funny and weird and about the best of a Joker/Harley story. 5 stars.
This is the tenth issue from the Batman: Gotham Adventures series. This is a Joker and Harley Quinn story and it involves Nightwing and Robin as the hero while Batman and Batgirl are busy in their adventures in Nepal (see the previous issue). Harley Quinn is released from Arkham Aslyum for being rehabilitated and sane and now that she is out she wants to write a memoir of her and Joker, whom she broken up with. Joker escapes from the institution and is out to find Harley Quinn. When he does find her drama and action ensues. I read issues eight to ten in one sitting with my kids and this issue made them laughed out loud because of what happen when Joker uses his laughing gas on Robin. Overall a fun clean story and you see the eccentric quirks of Joker and Harley Quinn.
