I really enjoyed this book. There's nothing new in terms of plotline: hero is a cop who is assigned to protect heroine 24/7, their closed proximity ends up heating up the sheets, bad guy tricks them and almost kills her, hero saves heroine's life, and they live HEA. I happen to like this kind of story, so this book was almost like a comfort read for me... I said "almost" because no one could be really comfortable with the sizzling, steamy sex scenes. I was hot and bothered! ;)

A few more pages would have improved the story. Nick and Paige needed more time together to make me believe they were truly in love - and not only in lust - with each other by the end of the book. And there was something missing in the way they settled things before the HEA. I don't know, it was kind of tepid. Anyway, they felt right together and I didn't doubt they were going to have a lot of fun with each other.

Dr Paige Harrington witnesses a murder and is assigned Det. Nick Santorelli for protection. On the spicy side and nothing really original but I enjoyed it all the same. I liked the way this author wrote. The ending could have used a bit more but overall it was fun and entertaining for me.

แม็กซ์อ่านเล่มนี้ตอนที่ออกขายเป็นอีบุ๊คน่าจะเกิดห้าปี แล้วนะคะ ตอนนั้นจำได้ว่า อ่านเล่มนี้ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องของเบอเวอรี่ แฮฟเลอเล่มแรก เราก็เกิดอาการคลั่งงานของเธอขึ้นมาทันที ดังนั้นเมื่อช่วงปลายปีที่อีลอร่าประกาศลดราคาหนังสือพรินต์บุ๊ค แม็กซ์จึงสั่งซื้อเล่มนี้ทันที

สำหรับคนที่คิดถึงงานของลินดา โฮเวิร์ดสมัยที่เธอยังเขียนเรื่องฮ็อต ๆ หนังสือเล่มนี้เตือนให้เราคิดถึงลินดามากเลยค่ะ เพราะมันมีส่วนคล้ายกันหลายอย่าง แต่แน่นอนว่า มันย่อมสู้ลินดายุคที่เธอเขียน Dream Man, After the night หรือว่า Kill and tell ไม่ได้หรอก

เพจ แฮร์ริ่งตันเป็นหมอสาวคนสวยที่อยู่ผิดที่ผิดทาง เธอบังเอิญไปเห็นเหตุการณ์ฆาตกรรมของฆาตกรต่อเนื่องเข้า ด้วยความจำระดับเทพ เธอจำหน้าคนร้ายได้เป็นอย่างดี และเนื่องจากพ่อของเพจเคยเป็นอัยการประจำรัฐ ตำรวจจึงถูกกดดันให้ส่งใครสักคนมาคอยเป็นบอดี้การ์คคุ้มครองเธอตลอดยี่สิบ สี่ชั่วโมง

และตำรวจคนนั้นก็คือ นิค ซานโตเรลลี่ นักสืบในกรมตำรวจที่เฮงได้รับเลือกมาทำงานที่ไม่มีใครอยากทำ เพราะเขาเป็นตำรวจประเภทที่มีวิธีการทำงานไม่ตรงไปตรงมาสักเท่าไหร วินาทีแรกที่พบกัน นิคก็รู้สึกว่าหมอสาวคนนี้น่าสนใจเหลือเกิน

พล็อตเรื่องในเล่มนี้ง่ายค่ะ ก็แหมหนังสือหนาไม่ถึงสองร้อยหน้า จะีมีพล็อตอะไรให้เล่นกันมาก เพื่อคุ้มครองเพจ นิคต้องย้ายเข้าไปอยู่ในอพาทเมนต์กับเธอ และนั่นเป็นการเปิดทางให้ความสัมพันธ์ของทั้งคู่ดำเนินไปอย่างรวดเร็ว และเมื่อคนร้ายมุ่งหมายเอาชีวิตเพจอย่างชัดเจน เขาก็ตัดสินใจพาเธอไปซ่อนตามลำพัง และนั่นเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการเปลี่ยนจากบอดี้การ์ดเป็นคู่รัก

และเพราะเป็นหนังสือของอีลอร่า ดังนั้นคุณคาดหวังฉากเซ็กส์ที่ร้อนกระดาษแทบไหม้ นิคเป็นผู้ชายชนิดอัลฟ่า ทั้งในบุคลิคที่แสดงต่อคนภายนอก และในห้องนอน ในขณะที่เพจก็แทบจะไม่มีประสบการณ์เรื่องผู้ชายเลย เธอเป็นเด็กอัจฉริยะ และใช้เวลาส่วนใหญ่เรียนหนังสือ จนกลายเป็นหมอในวัยเพียงยี่สิบหกปี (โปรดทราบว่าการเรียนหมอเมื่องนอกไม่เหมือนเมืองไทยนะคะ เขาใช้เวลานานกว่า เพราะต้องเรียนพรีเมด) การมาได้เจอกับนิค หนุ่มเชื้อสายอิตาเลียนแสนเสน่ห์มันจึงยากที่จะต้านทาน

และอย่างที่บอก มาตรฐานของแม็กซ์กับหนังสือที่เป็นอีบุ๊คมาก่อนไม่สูงมากเมื่อเทียบกับ พรินต์บุ๊คทั่วไป เราถือว่าเล่มนี้สอบผ่านฉลุยค่ะ แม้ในเรื่องจะมีช่วงเวลาที่เพจแสดงความโง่ขนาดสมควรตายมาเป็นระยะ เราก็ไม่ถือสา เพราะนิคฮ็อตมาก และแม็กซ์ก็ไม่ได้คิดมากด้วย
