His "Crime Flashback" column made its debut in the Toronto Sun in 1972 and was syndicated across Canada and in several Latin and South American countries.. His first column was about Lizzie Borden. He was awarded the Derrick Murdoch Award, one of the Arthur Ellis awards, by the Crime Writers of Canada.

I found Haines' style of writing about the murders sensationalist and somewhat speculative (trying to build a narrative with things he couldn't possibly know). There were several spelling and editing errors in the book too, which threw me off. Not a bad book, but the writer's style can get irritating at times.

loved it max haines is to me the best crime writer anyone who loves crime storys would love his books
