FIRST IMPRESSION VIDEO HERE: https://youtu.be/WGJNig4uKXo

Absolutely fantastic sequel to the first volume!

Honestly, I didn't think it could reach the bar in how high I set it after volume one, but this volume was just as good!

Much to Monica's shock, she IS officially closer to the prince, and all I can do is desperately hope that she can complete this mission quickly and go back home! The Prince already seemed shady in volume one, but he is ten times more shady now and I fully believe he is manipulating people's minds.

I don't think he even genuinely cares for those around him at all and is simply using them because when a certain someone in his "inner circle" literally seems to be at death's door, he does NOTHING. And considering that's my favorite male character from his "group," I don't want anything bad to happen to him!

And speaking of him, I really loved the compassion Monica showed towards him and how we saw more of her thoughts on her own incredible abilities. The way she wanted this young man to continue to be proud of his abilities/talents and not view it as a curse the way she views her own abilities/talents really struck my heart.

I feel Monica is one of the most nuanced heroines I have ever read. There is so much depth to her character and I found it especially hard seeing her berated and even HIT by another character in this volume. I am deeply thankful Nero is in her life and worried for future me and how hard it's going to be when I know her FULL backstory. This is the second glimpse we've seen so far and it was already upsetting!

I really need the people in her life to appreciate her for who she is, which leaves me to mention that I'm so thankful for Lana in how despite how "weird" she may find Monica to be at times, she has genuinely befriended her. I love when she is on page and how she is always helping Monica with her hair because she is a special kind of character, especially in the way she stands up for herself at the beginning!

Isabelle is another wonderful gem of character, who is also extremely funny with her villainess tactics! LOL! I love it and hope we continue to see more of her "acting out"!

EAGERLY looking forward to the next volume! This is definitely a new favorite series and would HIGHLY recommend it if you're looking for a fantasy with a heroine who struggles with social anxiety but continues to give her all, even if the people around her (aka Mr. Louis) are not the best. Plus the art is so very wonderful!

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Summary:

Monica Everett is one of the most talented witches of her generation: the problem is that she doesn’t see herself that way. She created and mastered the art of uncharted mage craft, something that had never been done before. This was enough to induct her into the Seven Sages, and life has not been as peaceful and quiet as she would have liked since then.

Now, Monica has been tasked with infiltrating a prestigious school in order to protect the Second Prince. How she’s supposed to keep him from harm and maintain her cover is anybody’s guess.

Review:

Have I mentioned how I’ve recently become obsessed with Secrets of the Silent Witch? I first got addicted through the anime, but have since started reading both the manga and the light novels. It’s that good of a series, I promise.

Secrets of the Silent Witch Vol. 2 is a solid sequel to the series. It does a lot of heavy-lifting, helping us get to know more about Monica, the secondary characters, and even the politics of the school (which is really a microcosm of the kingdom, right?).

This second volume also makes it clear who the potential romantic interests will be, and even the potential archetypes have become clear. Though you may want to wait a bit longer before deciding who you’ll want to root for. I’m holding out on my decision.

This series continues to shine in its gentle, magical, and endearing ways. It’s not one of those series that will stand out against climactic hits like MHA, but it absolutely has earned a soft spot in my heart. It’s so creative and intelligent, and I have a feeling it’s just going to get better with time.

Monica has to figure out who tried to drop a flower pot on the prince's head and... figures it out almost immediately because... she's a genius? Then she goes all math nerd in front of the prince so he gives her homework (she's thrilled).

Then the aristocrats decide to be commoner-hating jerks even as Prince Felix appoints her as the new treasurer. But that's not what this volume is about. It's about childhood trauma!

But on a serious note, Lana is officially my favorite character. I want her to be my friend.

The second volume picks right after the first. Monica, the shy witch forced back to school for an undercover job, has saved Prince Felix’s life, and now she has to find the culprit. This leads to her becoming the student council’s accountant, which doesn’t please everyone. The prince has an agenda of his own though, and won’t give up. The volume ends at Monica saving another student’s life, a boy who dislikes her most. Looking forward to reading how that’ll turn out.

the panel design and art still leave a lot to be desired - it's hard to tell what's happening in some panels because they're so busy and don't focus on the details. The light novel is much better, but I'm willing to read more of the manga to see if it improves.

Ice magic and more about the characters around Monica. This time, I suppose she will attack all the guys in the council with her charm and love for numbers. This time we will meet the ice prince and see that he has some mana poisoning and some more secrets.

I think I'm tapping out of this series now. The main character is too annoying and whiny for my tastes, and the side characters aren't different enough to keep things moving, plus the plot feels flimsy. I might have felt different if I were reading the light novel. I don't know.

The story continues to be pretty much the same as the anime. That's not a bad thing though! I did enjoy the bonus chapters, even if they didn't do much substance for the story they were still very cute interludes of silliness.

Leider ein schwacher Fortsetzungsband
Was ist denn da passiert?
