Poison princess Raffy and immortal knight Loren―there never was a pair more suited to be star-crossed lovers, right? Because, well, most of the time when people are around Raffy, they kinda just...die...from her poison emissions naturally. Still, Loren only married her to safeguard humanity as part of a peace treaty with demons, so there’s no way he LIKES her. As in, like-likes her. Because even if he never gets killed off forever, when he dies, it must be painful...So why does he keep acting like he absolutely adores her...?
This manga was very cute! Thank you Yen Press for sending this copy to me. I truly knew nothing about it before your package, so I'm happy you did because now I do really want to continue reading this story <3
If a poison demon pricess, immortal knight, and marriage of convenience romcom sound interesting to you, give this a go! It's hilarious, adorable, swoony, and full of fun moments you will smile upon.
This was an adorable romantic comedy. The premise- a woman who releases deadly poison each time she experiences a strong emotion being married to a man who can't die-creates plenty of interesting scenarios filled with humor. But it's the romance that really makes this work, as both leads are equally pure and sweet.
Poison princess Raffy and the heroic knight Loren should be desperate enemies, except they’re now married in an act of diplomacy. Raffy’s natural poison keeps her at a distance from everybody, but Loren’s affection might solve the problem. His immortality probably won’t hurt either.
I’m really having a week for silly marriage stories and this one might be the silliest. Not in a bad way - it IS 4-koma after all - but it isn’t exactly brimming with depth or anything.
But it’s occasionally dead funny, which helps. Poor Raffy has a habit of spewing poison when she gets flustered and, if you couldn’t gather from the cover image, she gets flustered a LOT. Especially over how much Loren adores her.
For his part, Loren is immortal, but he can still die really easy. He just comes back to life in the nearest piece of clothing, which is the perfect dumb idea for a litany of goofball running jokes. The carp streamer in particular is so daft.
Throw in Raffy’s puppet attendants, one of whom is very taciturn and the other of which is a catgirl puppet who speaks in nothing but cat puns, plus a dodgy ghost butler who is obsessed with Raffy in cosplay and getting our leads to do more than hold hands, and you have yourself a manga.
It’s all very ridiculous and possibly a smidgen repetitive, but a lot of 4-koma fall into that trap. There are still some zany gags and plenty of enjoyment to be gleaned - I won’t ever tire of jokes dunking on chainmail bikinis and the one here is very choice.
You’ll be following the traditional relationship beats, but I wouldn’t think you were here for the narrative anyway. It’s an excuse for the ludicrous dialogues and drawings and you’ll get that in spades. The revelation about the demon lord at the end of this is delivered very, very well.
It’s got cute art, sometimes aggravating side characters, but more good, strong jokes than I was honestly expecting. There’s more than enough to recommend it if you want a laugh. The way the common people react to Loren is perfect, just perfect, and he and Raffy are a great match.
3.5 stars - I could see myself giving this a four at some point, but it’s definitely the type of story where I want to check a second volume out to see if it can maintain the good bits it’s started with.4
Getting back into reading manga again after a very long time, not what I was expecting but I overall did enjoy it. It was cute and funny, not too serious, which I appreciated
I REALLY like how honorable, kind, and just super sweet Loren is! He is such a wonderful male hero and I very much hope he and Raffy continue to grow ever closer!
And speaking of her, my heart ached a little bit in how she has suppressed her emotions for so long. It was satisfying to see how she IS starting to express herself at Loren's encouragement, which made the ending very sweet. Just…
I really hate the butler. He really fits the role of "pervy character" because why is he pushing HIS fantasies onto Loren of what he (the butler) wants Raffy to wear?? Loren definitely scored big time with me in his response to the imagery of Raffy wearing bikini armor (which was at the butler's encouragement to visualize) of who would wear such useless armor because TRUTH!
Overall, this was a pretty cute read, but I'm not sure if I'll continue it or not. If I SHOULD keep reading, it will be purely for our main couple because they are super adorable!
okay this is right up my alley - arranged marriage with adorable characters, super wholesome main couple, and a ridiculously silly premise. loren's reincarnation being tied to whatever clothes are nearby is a fun touch too! this is so fluffy...also, the two maids are real cute. I am in for more!
