I knew that I didn't want to distract myself anymore, but somehow I just kept running these destructive patterns. Most of the books I've read on curing procrastination simply said that you need to be motivated, but that didn't really help me. It wasn't until I found this book and was able to go beyond the surface and really find out WHY I'm not taking action. Today I've taken back control of my life and continually find out more about how I work at my best." - Michael Johnson (California, USA) "I was skeptical at first. Does this really work if I'm only paying a few dollars for it? Turns out it paid off - uncovered some very destructive patterns that I've dealt with for years and finally eliminated them. Very easy to read." - Jessica (New York, USA) "Thank you for writing this book. It helped my partner and I to make some pretty big changes in our lives, both individually and as a team." - Jeremiah Vine (Chicago, USA) the procrastination cure, cure procrastination, overcome procrastination, how to eliminate procrastination forever, how to cure procrastination,
This book is a quick read with practical tips to overcome procrastination. You won't learn anything life-changing. What is helpful is that the book is a concise list of tools to help overcome procrastination.
You don't have to do anything. You could just not pay your taxes and go to jail. You choose not to suffer the consequences of not doing anything. It's useful to frame your thinking this way, it's an active choice with consequences.
Design your own goals. Make your goals compelling. Don't let other people define your goals for you. We are more likely to follow through when we design and define our own goals.
.1: Good goals are SMART blah blah blah. Good goals are also believable. You need to believe in your goals and you also have to really desire the outcome of your goals. If you don't want it or you don't believe it, it's useless to you.
.2: Stating your goals in a compelling manner makes them less likely to be daunting and more likely to be inspiring.
.2: Chunk large goals into smaller attainable pieces that will lead to the large goal.
Cheat yourself into action by deciding to take the smallest step required to achieve your daily or weekly goal. e.g. tell yourself you're just going to walk into the gym instead of some hectic workout. When you get there it'll be easier to take the second small step.
Prioritise by organising your goals by urgency, worth and value. When setting out your weekly and monthly goals be clear on what needs to be done, what things are needed to complete the task and how much time is required. Don't bullshit yourself. Be generous with the time required. Don't over commit.
when you lack drive ask yourself why this is important? Identify the negative consequences of not doing the thing.
Procrastination leads to self-loathing. Don't wallow in that self-loathing. Think of the other people whose time you are wasting. You're fucking over other people. That is a shitty thing to do.
Multitasking is shit. Don't do it. Focus.
Find a reward for achieving your tasks. A small tangible, enjoyable reward. Relish the reward.
Don' be a dipshit love what you do. Ask yourself why you have chosen to do this thing and link it to something you love.
This book, whilst fairly long, covers every aspect of procrastination to the point of extending to time management, motivational techniques and goal setting. It is complete with many ideas that can be implemented immediately to assist or prevent you from procrastination. A really good guide that is easy to read!
