His Substitute Wife... My Sister by Sylvia Hubbard is a 2014 HubBooks Literary Service Publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. A hateful mother and father with no backbone have three little girls. Cheyenne and Chyna are twins and later Charisse comes along. These girls suffered untold horrors as children. As adults these women have not faired well. Chyna married Parker for his money, and Cheyenne tried to steal him away from her. Now Chyna is desperate to hold on to Parker and she believes having a child with him will cure all their ills. The problem is she is having a great deal of trouble conceiving and finally the doctors determine she unable to have children. Cheyenne also suffers from the same problem, but baby sister Charisse could come in handy. Charisse is staying with Chyna after her third failed suicide attempt. She has a plethora of problems, one of which is she can't stand being touched. When Chyna approaches her about having a child for her Charisse finally agrees, but only after Chyna manipulates her into it. Parker is not sure what to think, but with the only alternative left being adoption, he is willing to try anything. Meanwhile Chyna moves Parker and Charisse around like pieces on a chess board. She claims that Cheyenne is afer Parker and a hunk of money that actually belongs to Charisse. Parker is completely in the dark about the whole scheme. However, he is fighting off an attraction to Charisse as he spends more time with the woman that will bear his child. WARNING: Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride!!! One bombshell after another is dropped and the unbelievable selfishness and greed these women had on top of a really bizarre sibling rivalary will put Parker and Charisse in the middle of a diabolical plan. While Cheyenne is sort of in the background she is the basis for all of Chyna's motives to keep Parker, even though she doesn't care about him, and to con Charisse into doing almost anything she ask of her... and I mean ANYTHING. While Cheyenne and Chyna battle it out, Parker and Charisse begin to grow closer and closer until finally Chyna seems to realize she has lost the battle, and probably the war. But, the action only heats up after that. Cheyenne and Chyna aren't done yet, and several other people get involved in the whole mess, some of which were just as manipulated as Parker and Charisse. The secondary characters include Parker's outspoken best friend and his wife, and the nurses hired to keep an eye on the suicidal Charisse. An epic battle will ensue over the child Charisse is carrying and the money she is owed, but also for just being the twins younger sister. The last fifty pages or so were incredibly tense. Thankfully, Charisse will find a new will to live and Parker will finally find a woman that loves him and not his money. As for the rest of this crew I hope the all get what they deserve. From what I understand this is a part of a series, but I have not read the other book or books. There is a web page that will help you catch up with the characters and is an interactive way to be involved with the story. This is one wild ride! Once you start reading it you won't be able to put it down. My only problem with the story was that there were a few scenarios I found implausible, but other than that, if you like edgy, emotional, contemporary romance with tons of drama and twist and turns in the plot you might want to check this one out. Over all this one is an A.
Wow these sisters are all a little crazy but Charisse got more sense than chyna and Cheyenne. I hate the way they use her but I think in the end she will be the one to come out and live happy. Parker needs to learn to stand up to Chyna. Cheyenne is a lost cause that will do anything to have her sister husband. Good read Author Sylvia Hubbard.
Wow, these sisters have serious issues! How could you be so hateful and mean to your family! It all started with the mother! Can’t wait to read part two!
***Received from Fabulosity Reads for an honest review***
“You’re stronger than all of us, Charisse.”
She was too. She didn’t know it, didn’t believe it at the time, but Chyna was right. Charisse was stronger than all of them. She persevered despite failed suicide attempts, abuse, and degradation. And her strength was incredible to see.
I can’t say I’ve ever read about a family like Charisse’s. Her mom was one mean woman, and her older sister Cheyenne wasn’t any better. Cheyenne’s twin Chyna seemed halfway decent but what animosity she didn’t show toward Charisse, she showed toward her own husband. I would say he wasn’t deserving of it but he was. Parker wasn’t innocent but he was more honest than Chyna or Cheyenne.
I loved how Parker sensed Charisse was different almost as soon as they met. It gave me hope that she would have someone who would build her up and help her see her value. And he did. Through simple things like conversations, meaningful gifts, and attempts to understand her, Parker made more progress with Charisse than her sisters probably ever could have.
I struggled with Charisse’s decision to have Parker and Chyna’s baby, and I’m not sure why. I understood why she agreed but I really had a hard time with it. By the end, I was so happy she made the decision but all throughout the story I kept saying, “God, I hope she lasts all nine months!”
The ending of this story was the most action packed part. It was also the most heartbreaking and gut-wrenching. But when the dust settled, when the smoke cleared, and when the characters settled down, I was more than ecstatic over the ending given to two characters who deserved a truly better life than the ones they had.
This is a superbly written story that covers a multitude of topics but one stands out first and foremost from beginning to end: family. Ms. Hubbard’s grasp on reality shines through in this epic novel. I didn’t think I’d make it past the first few chapters (attempted suicide is a subject I am familiar with) but I did, and I can honestly say that this is a story worth reading and sharing.
From beginning to end this book drew me in. I resented anything that got in the way. I didn't want to put my Kindle down when I had to go out food shopping, or when someone rang me on the telephone, I know, I know, its sad, but if you are a reader, you will understand. The closest I can come to explaining it to someone who doesn't read is, if you are watching a film and you get interruptions, it annoys you. Even if you can pause the film to resume later, if the film has you gripped into the palm of your hands and you want to see what happens next, its like that.
I don't want to write long essays over the storyline, I want you to experience this book yourself.
Its action packed. Its twists and turns. It holds secrets, it has hidden depths that come out and is full of complete and utter action. The ending was so very good. It kept me flicking page after page to the early hours when I had to finish it.
Sylvia Hubbard, I would be saying "Whose that?" Now I am saying "How did I come to miss this author"
I will certainly be looking to purchase this authors books based on this one I have read, its the first book I have read by Sylvia Hubbard.
I was given this book as a complimentary book to read and review.
May I add, just because sometimes I get complimentary books, I do tell my viewpoint on what I read honestly and its not based on whether I have had a 'free' book or not. Just check my other reviews out on Good Reads and my blog and you will see.
I would highly recommend this book if you like a twisted love story, twisted emotional action, fast paced and totally mind blowing. Then this book is for YOU.
Title: His Substitute Wife... My Sister Author: Sylvia Hubbard Publisher: Create Space Independent Publishing Platform Release Date: February 18, 2014 Language: English Genre: Erotic
God! God! Amazing! This incredible piece of work by Ms. Sylvia introduced a new dimension to romance in my life. I am still carried away by the voluptuous, enflaming and erotic chemistry amid Charisse (not Chinese!) and Parker. Cheyenne, China and Charisse are three unusual outlandish sisters born to an eccentric mother. They grew up in an abusive home. Charisse suffered more so than the twins. The only love she knew was what she received from her father. Upon his death, life as Charisse knew it spiraled downward. After another failed suicide attempt, Charisse was being picked up from the hospital by her brother in law, Parker Mills. She found it odd that he was being nice to her. She later discovers this was part of his character. As their friendship grows, they learn some rather disturbing things. Despite the few editing errors, this was a great read. These sisters take you on one heck of a roller coaster ride. The love of money can bring the worst out of people. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat. The events leading up to the ending illustrates a dysfunctional family at their worst. You will be utterly shocked.
His Substitute Wife is a fitting title for this controversial read. The author takes readers on a harsh journey of mental and family issues. When we first meet Charisse, she is pitiful in her attempts to end her life. She’s such a heavy burden to her family, but then we learn that there is a deeper purpose to her tale. Her sisters Chyna & Cheyenne, are both involved with Chyna’s husband Parker. Oh, and did I forget to mention that they are twins? Take a moment to let it register…Okay. To make matters worse, a scheme is concocted to bring Charisse into their mess by using her as a pawn in their morally void lives! Chyna wants to preserve her superficial lifestyle and is unable to give Parker a child. Neither of the twin sisters can carry a child, so the obvious choice is…Charisse. It’s bad enough when two sisters are involved with the same man, but another having sexual relations too. What I’ve mentioned is only the beginning!
The characters were difficult for me to connect with because I was disgusted by their behaviors. Parker’s involvement with all three ladies left my spirit perplexed.
With that being said, Sylvia Hubbard knows how to weave a drama-filled story with strong characters.
This novel is written in a lively and informal style of prose. The character development is riveting. The dynamics between the sisters and the unfolding of their back story held my interest. The suspense Ms Hubbard developed kept me wrapped up in the story until the last written word. Would recommend this story as a romantic psychological thriller to anyone wanting to read a good book.
A friend recommended this book to me particularly for the way Hubbard handles character development. I am just starting book 2 and I like the pace of the book. Maybe a little too much sex for my taste. Obviously a fearless writer.
