I come from a line of root workers on my father's North Carolina side, dead shots on my mother's Texas side. It was fun reading how Aunt Peggy helped solve the problems of both the enslaved and the free. Of course, it was not funny reading about the ill treatment of Black people under the lash and general oppression of slavery.
