Uncertain Aspects

Rate this book
Sometimes stories intertwine and people just appear in your life without warning, just like the next person in line at a coffee shop.

On the night Dylan’s father collapsed they were left with only a list of names, not a single one sounding familiar. With no answers coming from the hospital, company or police, that list appears to be the only option. The first name is a former detective who should at least have access to some resources Dylan doesn’t, but with that information comes... stress balls? And why does Dylan feel the sudden urge to squeeze the life out of them when in the same space as the detective?

On the day Corey’s second-hand headphones died ( again! ) she really tried her best not to panic. The voices just never seem to go away and she can deal with them, but it's starting to affect her brother just like it did her parents. Her only option is tracking down someone else with a "talent" like hers, but her one lead disappeared years ago.

This is a story about people gathering in a certain place, at a certain time. Unbeknownst to them their coming together means something. A fortuitous future? Or an ominous warning of things to come.

My life is a flurry of writing, art and creativity. You can usually find me reading a book, scribbling notes in a notebook for future creations, typing on a laptop with music blaring in my ears or buried in my basement watching documentaries and sitting behind a sewing machine.

I've been writing for as long as I can remember and have boxes of old notebooks in horrible handwriting to prove it. Only recently have I stumbled back into writing and finishing my ideas.

Seeking the Storyteller is the first novel I've published; with my partner in crime and life, Briana Lawrence. I also write horror, fantasy, supernatural and occasionally romance pieces which I am currently shopping around through contests and publishers.

(My opinions and views are my own - and may not necessarily represent companies or publishers I work for.)

Jessica’s narrative voice for the stories she weaves is honestly a favorite of mine among self-published literature. Truly. No matter which of her stories it is I’m reading, her voice tells each tale as it is meant to, and sometimes as the reader I find myself so moved it’s a bit hard to formulate a proper review. So I’ll do my best to write one.

There’s a lot to this book in particular I really love; From the imagery to the characters and their relationships, to how the story itself unravels in ways I hadn’t expected. I believe there is something for everyone to fall in love with. Whether it be Dylan, our non-binary gaming champ, or Corey, the super sleuth, investigation champion, and imho best sister ever, to a handful of other characters to love like Lassie, Gabe, Lucas, and Aya. It has positive and strong sibling relationships, handles sensory overload episodes very well, and has some of the best non-binary representation I’ve read to date. Also, if you’re like me and like hot, charismatic baristas?

Uncertain Aspects is a bit of a quick read, but honestly without a doubt it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year; with a mystery reveal like you wouldn’t believe, and other parts that will leave you shouting, “Ain’t no fuckin’ way!” It’s a pretty great companion for those days you want to curl up on the couch with a blanket and cup of coffee [though it probably wasn't prepared by Lassie].

That said, I hope one day in the future we’ll see more of the cast. It has left an impression on me, and I adore everything that Jessica poured into Uncertain Aspects. I need to know more, I need to know where the story goes from here. And hopefully one day I will have that answer. <3
