The French Orphan #3

Under The Spell of The Serenissima

Rate this book
The third in the French Orphan series follows the exploits of Pierre, former penniless orphan who discovers he is heir to the de Beauvoir inheritance.

So far, Pierre has found friends in unexpected places, been surprised by love, learned the true meaning of friendship, discovered the extent of human cunning and depravity and dodged numerous attempts by his closest family member to dispatch him to the next world.

In Under the Spell of the Serenissima Pierre’s search for the third Templar ring continues, but as ever, his path is not a smooth one. Pierre and Armand, along with Jean and Edoardo, are making for Venice, unaware that others too are racing towards the beautiful city, some intending to help, others with far more sinister motives.

As the various characters are drawn inexorably towards Venice, a conclusion will be played out that must decide Pierre’s fate, one way or another…

Another great read

Yet another great adventure! This third book of the series is a continuation of a very exciting and well written story. The author has a talent for relating the sometimes mischievous, always exciting, antics of the core characters, Armand and Pierre, and the many influential secondary characters, Charles, Marie, Jean, Celine, Julia, Henry, Nicholas, François, to name a few. Many times I've found it difficult to follow so many integral characters in a story, as well as several subplots that eventually converge....but Stole does it with such ease and intelligence. One chapter may end as cliffhanger only to bring you back to another intrigue that connects. The smooth writing style kept me wanting more and the rich history peppered throughout makes for a strong foundation for a great series. I highly recommend the book and series. I cannot wait to see what happens next as I begin book four of the series. I already see a movie in the making!

I liked all three books very much. This is not Tolstoi or Nobel Prize worthy literature, but it's funny, intriguing and got me hooked. Nothing for intellectual wannabees though - but very entertaining. Great understanding of the historical background.

hope to read more about Pierre and his friends and the odious Henry.

I received this book as a first read.
I had not read the first two books, but found this one enjoyable all the same.
The right adjective for this book would be intriguing.
The story is gripping and fast paced. Mysterious and unpredictable.
The setting is Venice, and well, it doesn't get any better than that.
