This is a Paranormal Cozy Mystery, and this is the 4rd book in A Magical Bakery Mystery series. I have read some of the other books in this series. The main character in this series is Katie who is a witch. In this book there is not a lot of her coven or the Spellbook Club and not a ton of the bakery either. My favorite part of this series is those two things, and that is why I enjoyed this book the less so far. The ending was good, but I found the beginning and middle just ok or maybe a little boring. I do not like reading books that has TV/Movie filming, and this book as lot of that as well. The other three books I read so far in this series I really enjoyed, so I will keep going will the series. (*)

Audiobook-Wonderful narration
There are some major game changers happening in this edition to the series. The chess pieces are moving and it's getting very interesting. One character gets a huge awakening and doesn't like it very much.
The eclairs are so mouth watering delicious sounding I was drooling all over my book. The bad news no eclair recipes :( There are recipes but not what I wanted. That is my only complaint, well and the fact that this bakery in not in my town.

I had high hopes for this series being interwoven with the craft. However, after four books, I''m disappointed by the bogging down of the craft due to the intricate descriptions of the outfits each person is donning, the individual ingredients in the food, and the murder mysteries that deflect from her magical advancement.
Each installment is able to stand on its own. However, you will be introduced to the characters that remain from book to book and experience the development of the story much more clearly if you read the entire series in order.

The problem with this series is that it just makes me SO hungry! Now I want to head to Savannah, go to the Honey Bee bakery, and have a sweet potato filled eclair topped off with maple frosting and a touch of magic🤤
This is the fourth book in the series, and I’m glad it headed back into a more cozy mystery direction.... Katie once again finds herself running into a dead body, it would really be a bummer to be a catalyst witch.... once again the best part of the book was this fabulous coven of witches.... I just love how well developed all of them are, and I adore the interactions they have with each other, you just get the feeling that they are just so there for each other! Always appreciate strong female friendships in books and in life.... again the only problem I have with this series is the love triangle, however it was slightly diluted this time.... and there was a big twist with one of the love interests; but I’m not sure how I feel about this, I still feel as though she is not following her heart.... this book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, so hoping to pick up the next book sooner than later....

This was a truly cute set up and atmosphere. I liked this installment quite a bit with the exception of the warning below.
Also be aware of casual and insensitive mention of a character possibly struggling with an eating disorder.

When a movie set invades her quiet town, Katie Lightfoot and her coven find themselves suddenly involved in finding clues to solve a murder on set. With a few twists, turns, and surprises along the way, this was a fun read.

Not the best in the series, but still a good, entertaining read. I'd have liked to have seen where the author could have gone with Katie and Declan without the introduction of this new wrinkle, but I'm still curious to see what she does with it. A good murder plot too.

Nice mystery that took place on a movie set. Katie has the grudging acceptance one of the detectives, he knows Katie has talent, but has no idea what it is. I'm not sure how to feel about Declan and his formerly hidden ability. He doesn't want any part of it, so we will see.
I am using this for Ripped Bodice Bingo Protagonist smells like freshly bakes bread square.

The friendly chime of the bell over the entrance to the Honeybee Bakery sent a shot of adrenaline through my veins.
Another visit to the Honeybee Bakery in Savannah, Georgia finds Katie and Aunt Lucy manning the bakery on their own. Uncle Ben along with Declan are working security for a film company shooting a movie in the town. Mimsey, the local florist, introduces Simon Knapp as the production coordinator of the film. He has fired the contracted caterer and is in need of lunch for the crew. Katie and Lucy manage to toss together an amazing meal in a very short period of time and deliver it to the site. Katie becomes a part of the investigation when Simon is murdered and the star's resident psychic predicts that Katie will solve the crime.
This is such an enjoyable series. I really appreciate how Katie has grown as a character since the first book. I'm glad she has made her choice in Declan for a long term relationship. I like the little things that Katie and Lucy do to make their pastries extra special with certain charmed additives.
The movie set offered a variety of interesting people from the diva star to the nervous assistant production manager. It seems that everyone has a secret. Ursula, the psychic, adds an intriguing aspect to the investigation. She is also instrumental in exposing a hidden talent in Declan that the reader was not expecting.
I understand that some people are really confused and irritated by this development for Declan. Perhaps because I read a lot of UF/ PNR that I was not offended or appalled. I'm interested to see where this talent will lead.
Family secrets, hidden identities, questionable potions and sorcery create the background for an excellent book. I look forward to the next book to catch up with the bakery and the spellbook club.

SOME ENCHANTED ECLAIR is my favorite so far in the Magical Bakery Mystery series. Baker and witch Katie Lightfoot gets wrapped up in another murder mystery, this time on the set of a Revolutionary War movie being filmed in Savannah.
The murder victim was a “fixer,” as in he was in charge of fixing personal and professional problems for the cast and crew, which means he had some interesting connections, and knew a lot of dirt on a lot of people. The movie’s big star has a personal psychic who tells Katie that she’s meant to find the murderer, and luckily she’s got her Spellbook Club coven to help out.
This was a puzzling mystery with just the right amount of paranormal intrigue. Katie learns a little more about her powers and why she seems to be a magnet to murder mysteries. Katie’s boyfriend Declan gets a big surprise from a long lost family member in a rather amazing way. I can’t wait to see what happens with this new revelation. I felt like I got to know the Spellbook Club members more in this book, and I enjoyed seeing their characters develop.
I love this series, and it just keeps getting better and better! Highly recommended to fans of light paranormal and culinary cozy mysteries.

After reading this book, I understand where the mixed reviews are coming from. I actually really enjoyed this addition to the Magical Bakery Mysteries, but I also read fantasy and paranormal books quite often as well. This cozy is unique because it includes a good mixture of all of those genres. The mystery was good, well paced and kept me guessing until close to the end, the magical aspects are always charming and delightful and the touch of paranormal was a shocking surprise. Defintiley didn't see that one coming, but the author tied it in well by making the point that once you start believing in magic, just where do you draw the line on those beliefs. I really love the main character, Katie, and the reaccuring cast of quirky characters. The setting it quite cute too. I would love to visit the Honeybee Bakery and see what charmed treat the ladies would suggest for me.

I want to like this series (it's a local author, and I like to support the local artists) but like another local cozy author (Maggie Sefton and her knitting mysteries), she seems to be going off in a direction that is getting a bit ridiculous.
And damn it, stop with the love triangle crap. Katie's supposed to be committed to Declan, yet she's still pretty strongly attracted to Steve and jealous of anyone he might be interested in. '"All wrapped around Althea Cole,'" I couldn't hide the scorn that leaked out around my words..." Ick.
The long lost Irish leprechaun uncle is also a weeee bit much to take. I can only suspend my disbelief for so much.

Each book in this series seems to get better than the last. Cates definitely keeps the reader entertained with the escapades that Katie and company seem to find themselves in.
My favorite character of all will always be Mungo. He is just the cutest! Then again, I'm partial to animals, especially dogs.
This particular installment in the Magical Bakery Mysteries finds Katie suddenly contracted to cater for the movie crew that is filming in Savannah. While she's not exactly happy about it, Lucy is and so they work to create magic in the kitchen as usual.
Of course a murder happens that has to do with someone in the crew for the movie, and Katie is right in the middle of it as she works to find out who killed Simon.
I am not so fond of her and Declan being a couple, I just don't think they really mesh together. However, I do think she and Detective Quinn should be together, or at least partners when it comes to solving cases.
There is a seance scene that actually had me tear up a bit as there was someone who came forward that was an unexpected spirit.
On to the next in this entertaining series.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be the first person to just recommend this series. But for what it’s worth (despite my consistent lower ratings), I am enjoying these. Think a light fluffy version of Nancy Drew meets a Hallmark movie.

We declared the vanilla-filled, chocolate-topped éclairs the daily special, dubbing them “Black and Tans” and placing them front and center in the display case with tasty little samples by the register. When Mrs. Standish stopped by for her late-morning sugar fix, she took one bite and ordered half a dozen in a bag. Lucy complied with a knowing grin and a glint in her eye.

I'm taking a break from this series. I stopped caring about the mystery. That's a problem for me. I'm always trying to solve the who-done-it. Also, less sure this is a cozy mystery as the paranormal/urban fantasy is playing a larger role. I think my biggest issue is that I find our heroine less and less likeable:she whines A LOT. She's basically perfect, which alone isn't a problem. She only needs a few hours sleep, goes for early morning runs, perfect baking, perfect garden, perfect dog, great friends, 2 men. But instead of liking her or wanting to be her friend, I find myself annoyed by how much she whines about her magical issues. Then the book keeps adding levels of magic, psychic, medium, memory spells, just getting to be too much. Also too much time spent describing what people look like, what they are wearing. I found myself skimming more than usual. Compared to baker Hannah Swenson or reporter Lucy Stone, Katie Lightfoot is just not as likeable.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It had earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Review of the audiobook.
I read the previous in the series in paperback and returned to audio for this one and I find I prefer it in paperback, but I'm not sure why. There is nothing wrong with the narrator or the story for audio, but for me, it just isn't as good.
I thought the mystery here was interesting with the film crew and all of the drama that comes along with it. Declan's developing situation is also interesting, but I'm a little over the almost love triangle that just doesn't go away with Steve and the repetitive comparisons of the two men. It's just not a good sign, it's a little immature and frankly pointless.

I thought this was a nice installment to the series as I felt like I got to know Katie and the rest of the characters a little bit more.
Further, I liked the view into the historical aspect of Savanna. I also liked the acting and movie aspect of the book. I found this book easy to read and understand and was definitely surprised by it.
I thought the pacing in the book was good--not too slow but not too fast. The beginning was especially intriguing and definitely hooked me.

2022 bk 211. Things are going well at the Bakery, when Mimsey bursts through the doors followed by a young man and a request. He had just fired his caterer and needs lunch ASAP for the cast and crew filming just a few blocks away. After delivering the lunch, Katie returns to pick up the leftovers and utensils, only to hear a scream. With Uncle Ben and Declan working security - the three find a murder victim, Katie's knife in his back. The cast of characters has grown for this book, but it is essential to the series as a person important to the bakery, Declan and Ben's growing involvment in coven activities, and the mysterious Franklin Tait all play a part. Best of the series so far over than number 1.

This was a 3.5-4 stars. It was good but not great. I was really irritated, as usual, with Katie and the way she handled some things, especially Declan finding out about his new abilities. The relationship between Declan and Katie continues to grow, however, can you just get rid of Steve 😒🙄. The mystery was good, but the reveal as to the why was meh!

This one was quite good. I feel like the mystery unfolded well but not at the expense of character development. Maybe I’m just happy that I feel like a love triangle has sort of been avoided. The story is good without the need for that drama.

There were a few loose ends in this one. Hopefully they will be straightened up, or at least explained, in future books. Again too, it was a bit darker than I like.
Although there are some really dark scenes there are some great ones too. I totally believe in help from those that have passed on, but I don’t agree with the method sometimes used to get that help.

Still a murder mystery but there’s also a movie being filmed and a psychic to add their respective hindrance and help. I don’t think this book had as many recipes mentioned as the prior novels.

There is some weird stuff that goes down in this entry - but I'm up for it! I'm laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying the crazy. Again, I love these characters (even when they annoy the heck out of me - even when they make me roll my eyes), and I'm enjoying the mystery, the witches and the insanity. There was a little too much mapping for my taste. (Katie goes for a run and the author shows her homework by describing the direction and streets and it has nothing to do with anything so it was distracting for me.) Even with some of the problems I had with the writing and the characters' actions, I'm still giving this 5 stars. It's just so enjoyable!
