Dot Tegydd is the third daughter of propertied parents who longed for a son. Hywel Fletcher was born the day his father was killed in the pit, and is bitterly resented by his mother. And Huw Pettigrew is the much-loved and hard-working eldest child in a respected working family. Dot and Hywel dream of a contented future caring for their land, while Huw's dreams are more like nightmare . . . Yet when tragedy strikes it is Huw's vision which brings the three together and gives each of them, in the end, their heart's desire.
Katie Flynn was born in Norwich and attended Norwich High School, where she was extremely happy and extremely undistinguished. Published at the tender age of eight, in Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories, she joined a Writers’ Circle as an adult, publishing short stories, articles, etc; only turning to novels in 1971 because the postal strike cut off her main source of income! At first she wrote under several different names – Judith Saxton, Judy Turner, Lydia Balmain, Judith Arden – but her Katie Flynn books were a delight to write and proved far more popular than she had dreamed. She has now published nearly ninety novels, twenty-seven of which are Flynns. Her most recent titles are: Lost Days of Summer and Christmas Wishes.
Not sure what to think so far, if I was going to say something I'd have to say that I'm finding the introduction of sixteen characters from three families in the first three chapters a bit overwhelming! I don't want to meet any one else for a while thank you! I'm having to jot down a quick family tree so I can keep track of them, if this book is anymore work it might get filed!!
Well I didn't meet too many more characters so I forgave the author and finished the book. Her writing style Is good and the story travels along nicely ....and then it concludes ...... but hold on...without properly dealing with all the story threads, where did the widowed teacher go? What happens to the daughter? Does the divorce resolve? It felt like the story was wound up a bit hastily. I don't feel I can give the story more than a 2 because of the abruptness of the ending, the novel was long enough to wind story lines up, I believe, without leaving questions,
This book really got me into it, so sad to believe life was actually like this! There was so much going on but I loved it! My only issue was as I was getting closer to end of book, it still had a lot of questions unanswered! For them to meet up and say they’ll get married, that’s sweet but what about everyone else!? Where do they live? Do they go back to her home,? What about the daughter? Does the father? Does he talk to his biological mother again!?
I need these answered!!! :)

This is an amazing description of dying: p411: "If he did not play it well enough that body, just breathing, would imperceptibly cease to breathe, would chill, would stiffen. And that lovely mind, so near now, physically as well as mentally, would imperceptibly cease, too."
