As an introduction to a trip to Barkerville, I’ll use this as a read aloud but I’ll keep a lookout for another similar resource. Hughes introduces a number of informative historical aspects related to The Klondike Gold Rush. There are many opportunities for discussion and related research. There is enough action to keep the kids interested. I found the characters quite dull, but this could lend to opportunities to dramatize portions of the story to bring some life to it.
