Years after a reluctant separation, Fiyin has learned to fill the void with the luxuries her estranged husband pays for. She is living her best life and everything is grand. Until it isn't. Suddenly, she is desirous of rebuilding her marriage and fixing what is broken with Dare, her husband, even if he has gone on to marry several other wives and has given stringent conditions for a reconciliation to be possible. Regardless, she is ready to do whatever it takes to reclaim her place as his number one wife. As she jets to and from Abuja trying to win Dare back, she accepts the offer from an admirer, Rahim Sukai, for the use of his private jet anytime she wants it. A simple fix for her morbid fear of flying local airlines, except it comes with an unexpected blast from the past in the form of the Pilot, her childhood friend, Goriola, who, it appears, still carries a torch for her.
What follows is a quest to win back the affection of a man who no longer loves her, an unexpected journey with a man who still does, a battle for dominance from a man who will do whatever it takes to get her...
And an awakening she is forced to come to as she relearns everything she has ever known to be true.
The Writer, who became an Engineer, who became an Investment Banker, who became a Fertility Spokesperson, who became…a Writer. That has been the journey of A. T. Nwokedi, aka The Fertile Chick. A self confessed hopeless romantic, when she is not creating new characters, she devotes her time to creating memories with her husband and their three children.
3.5 stars I’ll be back with my little review after our book club meeting but initial thoughts - this is my first time reading an older romances. Older romance being people in their 40s and 50s - Fiyin was so naive for someone who is 46/47… what a truly unwise babe till the last few chapters
I’m very keen on reading the entire Ginika books so I can see if Erin and Ara are like Fiyin because wow. Tiwa, Gori and his family were my favourites
Adesuwa Nwokedi has a way of creating swoon worthy male characters that will make you want to dump your man and marry a fictional person 😂
Gori the male main character is a totally hot, sexy and kind man. He is humble, well mannered and absolutely fabulous. He’s also a man with a worrisome past 🤣 I’ll not say so I don’t sully his image. But he changed and became a better person.
However, Feyin on the other hand is someone I wanted to reach through my tablet and slap some sense into. She’s close to 50 but with the ideology and behaviour of a clueless 19 year old. Her focus is solely on her looks, and spending the cash of men. No personality at all! 🫣 I wanted to shake her many times and was pleased when bad things happened to her.
By the time she changed, I didn’t care much for her.
I LOVED her relationship with her daughter who (thank God) is far more sensible than her mother. Feyin’s daughter dropped so many gems of wisdom but unfortunately, Feyin didn’t listen.
It’s an enjoyable read. You’ll go through many emotions reading this. But you’ll sigh with pleasure in the end. Because it’s a love story. And happy endings are always a relief!
This book is coming out this August and is already available for preorder. Rush and buy it! You’ll have a lot of emotions reading this, but boredom will NOT be one of them!
I loved everything about this book The love story of Gori and Fiyin made my heart flutter Adesuwa knows how to bring out this side of me, I've got butterflies in my tummy whenever I read her books. I recommend "Whatever it takes".
There are so many things I want to say about this book. But I'll just have to put my emotions in check and summarize by saying I love how the heroine grew and I absolutely love the love between Fiyin and Gori. And now I'm craving Fiyin's Jollof rice and ayamase sauce.
After spending my entire life chasing frills and luxuries, I've finally found the greatest treasure of all with him - LOVE". Love is beautiful when shared with the right person. I absolutely loved Fiyin and Gori's love story, which is by far one of my favorites in the Ginika's Bridesmaids series.
This book had been on my TBR list for a while, and I was initially skeptical about Fiyin's story. However, I decided to give it a try, and oh, I wasn't disappointed! 🤭 I was hooked from the first few pages 😁. I absolutely loved Fiyin's journey, particularly her self-discovery and personal growth. I admired how quickly she realized her husband wasn't the right fit. There were moments when I wanted to intervene and give her a knock on the head, as her decisions frustrated me. I found myself questioning her judgment, wondering if she was thinking clearly. But I was relieved when she eventually came to her senses, and I loved her growth.
Fiyin's daughter, Tiwa, stole my heart with her intelligence and smartness especially compared to her materialistic mother.
Goriola Disu, The man that you are!!! Intentional ✅ Hot✅ Sensible ✅ Well mannered ✅. I was expecting this man to fumbled at a point but this man stayed loyal to the end. I had to double-check if he was actually 50 years old, I was impressed by his loyalty and effortless display of love (young men could learn a thing or two from him!🌚🌚). I think I have a crush on him.🤭🤭
Alhaji Dare Ahmed, I don't like you, and I never will, even considering what you did at the end. I still don't like you. Rahim, We are familiar with your games and I think it's high time you change because clearly you're always losing.
The author's writing style?? Chef kiss. I love how she writes about older people finding love 🥰🥰. The message is clear: no matter your age, you can still find genuine love. It might take time, but it's possible. There is a man for every woman and a woman for every man. I hope we all find our genuine person, and when we do, I hope it lasts because sweet love is beautiful.
Beautiful love story I totally loved this one and I highly recommend it.
This is a spin-off of Ginika's Bridesmaids Series. After Ife's story, this is my second favourite! I'm happy I read this story.
Fiyin's story was much needed. In the previous books, I wasn't sure about her and I was eager to read her story to avoid making unnecessary conclusions. Let's say I was observing her, lol. From the very beginning of this story, I was hooked and on a mission to discover who this sophisticated and boujee woman was. I love Fiyin's character growth; I'm grateful she got a second chance and she had the wisdom to embrace it well. I adore Tiwa, Fiyin's daughter. ❤️
Goriola Disu, you are an amazing man!! 😍 Reading about a 50-year-old man in love like a teenager felt cute. 🥹😂 What was I expecting? He has loved and waited for her for thirty years and seeing his wish come true, yeah, he is sure to make the most of the opportunity. If he was a jerk, I'd have given him a knock on his head. It's impossible, but I'll try—I have Ms Adesuwa to give me his location. 😂 Unfortunately, it was Fiyin who acted like the jerk.
This is an "Older Adult" romance trope (if that's even a thing 😂). It rings a bell, doesn't it? IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO FIND TRUE LOVE! With Gori (50 years old) and Fiyin (47 years old), this should be your motivation. When love comes visiting, it'd be eternal, the one you've prayed for all your life! ❤️
Now, let’s talk about the villains in this book: Rahim and Dare. Rahim, I've never liked you! Your many wives and concubines are hardly enough, right? 🤨 I appreciated that Fiyin made it clear from the start that she wasn’t interested in a romantic relationship with him. And then there's Dare, Fiyin's husband. This guy really annoyed me! The humiliation he put Fiyin through was unbelievable. Well, jokes on both of them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! 🫶 I’m thankful to Ms Adesuwa O'man Nwokedi for this masterpiece, and I highly recommend it! A solid 5/5! 🌟
But forget, Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi can write the hell out of books. I forget I’m reading about fictional characters. The island adventure, although not funny then, is funny now. Rahim Sukai is as rich as the devil but still very much the devil.
Anyway, this book makes me wonder about the reality of polygamous families here in Nigeria and how the first wives really feel about the whole saga—like our very own Oga Ned Nw...
Fiyin is a better person than I am, sha, because I wouldn’t have turned my back on my own airplane...
This is the longest I’ve taken to read an AON book.
The book started on a high and then my interest waned at some point and I had to force myself to finish it. Fiyin was too spoiled for my liking and I didn’t think her and Goris love story was believable (but please don’t take my word for it). 2.5 stars
I loved this book so much that I had to finish it in one night. Fiyin’s character isn’t really someone I like in either Ara or Erikan’s books so I didn’t expect much from her book and also didn’t plan on reading it. But the twist with Rahim Sukai was actually what intrigued me and I will say this has to be among my top 3 for the Ginika bridesmaids series and spin-offs.
I did not like her at all both in Book 1 and 2. She was so vain or self-centered for my liking, and she proved me right with this book. You can have your cake and eat it but I love the fact that she is find love ❤️, crazy love self. The only kind of love that can bring her down off her higher chair.
Thank you, Adesuwa O'man Nwokedi. I enjoyed 😉 this very much.
This spin-off from the Ginika's Bridesmaids series, was absolutely engaging. Like the previous books, this one took me on an emotional rollercoaster with its vibrant main character. Fiyin truly tested my patience, there were moments I wanted to knock some sense into her, lol! Still, the mix of drama and romance kept me hooked from start to finish. As always, Adesuwa delivered brilliantly.
Who would have thought Fiyin could be all lovey -dovey. 😁 Changing her lifestyle was a rude shocker to her. She couldn’t cope and couldn’t comprehend what was happening to her.
Just imagine if she didn’t have skills to fall back on. In the end it all worked out well for her.
This book is the ‘catch me up’ you didn’t know you needed after reading ‘Ginika’s bridesmaids’. A unique Gen X romance novel. Totally worth the hype and some more.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) I wasn’t sure I’d like a whole book about Aunty Fiyin as she came off as pompous in Ginika’s Bridesmaids. But I’m glad I gave it a chance because this is a surprisingly emotional, dramatic, and refreshing story. It’s rare to find a romance where the main character is in her late 40s, already married, and still trying to understand love and self-worth. Fiyin lives in luxury, jetting between Lagos and London while her husband lives in Abuja. Amid all that glamor is a tangled love triangle: one rich suitor, one handsome pilot, and one woman finally discovering what it means to choose herself. There were definitely moments that tested my patience; like her questionable choices and the excessive designer name-drops but the ending was worth it. The character growth felt earned.
“I was infatuated with you then. But now, only a few months away from turning fifty, I’m falling in love for the first time in my life.”
