During the years following the nuclear holocaust that decimated the United States, the legend of Ben Raines has flourished throughout the shattered land. Soldier and survivalist, Raines has dedicated his life to rebuilding civilization from the ruins of humanity. But for a once-great nation to rise again, the new laws that are imposed must be just but harsh-they must be Ben Raines laws. The bloody war continues against the hordes of subhuman cannibals infesting the urban wasteland. But Raines and his rebel forces encounter an even greater threat to their dream of a new America. A savage pestilence is sweeping across the South, as a reawakened Ku Klux Klan sows the poisonous seeds of ignorance and prejudice. It is a hideous scourge that must be eradicated at all costs, either through education...or annihilation. For Ben Raines knows that of all the threats to mankind's survival, blind and brutal hatred is the deadliest...

Very good adventure series. Basically the forming of a new United States after WW3 and the story of the man who leads and forms it. If you like men's adventure stories you will enjoy it. Recommended
And the story not only continues, but now there are more mysteries and twists coming. As well as some old characters back with different attitudes. I was surprised by a couple of new things that have developed, and in a good way, driving the story along even further towards believability. For a dystopian storyline, this series is very realistic which makes it fascinating to read.
I really enjoy this series, only problem is getting issues from Enemy in the Ashes that don't cost an arm and a leg. Have read up to that book, about 2dozen times already.
Ben returns to Louisana back where it all began in Out of the Ashes. He settles a few old scores and deals with ignorance. This book really seemed to focus on how education would be the key of ending racial prejudice. The old Russian adversary calls in on the radio briefly to end old hostilities and offer help. Looks like he might be on Ben's side for a while.
William Johnstone has become my new favorite author. This is the 8th book of this series. Most books in a series start to get dull after the first 2, but these get better. I highly recommend that you read it.
