His mother died when he was but a child. When his father too dies suddenly, a young man's life is thrust into chaos.
Conscripting his two closest friends, he steals a car and travels across the United States to confront the man who murdered his mother and changed the course of his family's lives forever. Unsure of his goals, and of himself, he is forced to come to terms with the reality of his life, and to decide who it is he wants to be.
It's a story about loss, and how each of us reacts to loss; differently, suddenly, often poorly. It's about identity; deciding who you are in the wake of tragedy. It's about the damage our parents inflict on us as children; accidentally and deliberately.
Ultimately it's a story about the path we all walk from childhood to adulthood.
