Eva Randell was living the life she had always dreamed of; newly engaged, working as a registered nurse with her fiancé, Dylan Redman who was recently accepted to be one of Riverview’s emergency department’s elite medical interns. Regrettably, Eva’s cloud nine moment did not last very long when Dylan, the love of her life, goes missing.
Eva embarks on a mind-bending journey to find Dylan. She ends up discovering answers at her mother’s lake house in Littleten, Illinois. While Eva fights through her troubles, she shows us how we all have the ability to handle even the most horrific of problems with a little help from God, family, friends and her trusted diary.
Littleten is a town that holds many ancient secrets, attracting both good and evil forces. As Eva painfully struggles, she is pulled towards another dimension. A mystical dimension that she was born to be part of, something called The Ripple.
Jennie Papa is a retired Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Counseling/Psychology. As I so admire the great American author Stephen King and his fictional towns such as Castle Rock and Derry. I too have created a fictional town called Littleten in the state of Illinois. This is my first fictional suspense novel called The Ripple (Release date August 18,2023) written while working as an RN. I plan on dedicating much of my time to creatively writing within this small fictional town called Littleten. Ideas for my next adventure are already forming and anxiously awaiting to be put down on paper. Other work: Dante's Sins (2009) A collection of fictional short stories based on the seven deadly sins.
The novel is a warm horror because the protagonist is deeply in love with her fiance, while an evil presence grows throughout the book. It offers a unique spin on the horror genre because the emotions of the protagonist are conveyed while the couple undergoes their ordeal.
The novel could be improved in a few aspects: 1) The author could have stuck to one type of storytelling because it starts with a diary recount, switches to a first-person narrative, and then alternates between diary and first-person narratives in the end.
2) Character growth could be improved. The protagonist is supposed to be a holy warrior, yet within the novel, she never grows from a psychotic patient into a warrior.
3) The rules of engagement should be related more clearly to the reader. The novel conveys that there are two sides combating each other: the Wicked and the Chosen. The Chosen don't assist in some instances, but the author never explains why.
Despite these areas for improvement, it is an interesting read, especially because it offers a unique spin on the horror genre.
The story centers on Eva, an aspiring registered nurse, whose life is turned upside down when her fiancé, Dylan, mysteriously disappears. Engaged and brimming with hope for their future, Eva embarks on a heart-wrenching quest to find Dylan that intermingles with supernatural elements in the small, enigmatic town of Littleten.
What captivated me most was Eva's determination and resilience as she grapples with real-world challenges while unraveling the town's ancient secrets. The author, Papa, skillfully built suspense, allowing the tension to escalate before introducing the supernatural elements. It created a balanced flow that kept me engaged without overwhelming me. The gradual revelation of Littleten's mysteries adds depth to Eva’s journey, tying her personal struggles to the larger cosmic themes at play.
The author expertly intertwined the threads of reality and the supernatural, ultimately engaging me in a thought-provoking exploration of love, hope, and the lingering forces that connect us to one another and the unknown. This book is a must-read for fans of gripping thrillers with a paranormal twist.
What a riveting novel - you won't want to put it down! A creative take on the classic good verses evil theme where things aren't always as they seem. Also part love story, I found myself getting attached to the characters and loved to cheer them on all the way to the end. The Ripple has some spine chilling moments along with lots of surprising twists and turns... you will have to read it to find out!
The spiritual and the everyday come together in "The Ripple," leading the reader into the depths of love and enlightenment. It's a celebration of the strength of the human spirit, the sustaining nature of faith, and the unbreakable links of family. The novel has all the elements of a page-turner: compelling character's, peril, surprising turns, romance, the supernatural, and suspense. A fascinating read for those interested in stories that go beyond the norm.
I was intrigued by the book's concept and enjoyed the storyline in general. Unfortunately, the writing was disjointed in a way that after thoughts seemed to complete sentences or paragraphs. The flow then became disrupted for me as I awaited the next. If I didn't know that the author was from the Midwest, I would almost believe this was a translation.
I read "The Ripple" by Jennie Papa and was highly entertained by Eva's journey through love, loss, and mystical scenes and plots. I enjoyed the unique blend of romance, mystery, and supernatural elements. The author’s vivid storytelling and compelling characters kept me hooked.
Creative storyline! (The publishing company did a horrible editing job though. I would not choose them because it took away from the enjoyment of the story for me.)
I am the author of this intense adventure. Written in the first person. The main character Eva goes on a heart-wrenching journey- she was destined to be a part of; just like all of us... she has her own story to tell. Her story leads the reader into another mystical dimension called The Ripple. Take the journey! I hope you enjoy it!
