Bestselling authors Candace Ayers and Kym Dillon bring you SHORT "lunchtime quickie" reads—condensed romances intended to be read in under 2 hours!
Welcome to Mystic Hollow where wildest dreams (trust me, they do get wild) come true.
I prefer books to people. For the others, the BfB program is a roaring success (pun intended). The only woman who captured my heart...chose my friend instead! Yeah, I'll stick with books.
But when I receive a proposal, the logic is evident. No love involved. She'll gain stability and security. I'll gain a wife and possibly cubs. Win-win, correct?
Incorrect. It turns out to be the biggest miscalculation of my life. Because, in a plot twist, my betrothed's sister is my fated mate.
**This is a SHORT, feel-good, instalove-inspired, fated mates bear shifter romance.**
This is a standalone romance, but for maximum enjoyment, it's recommended the books in this series be read in order.
Yumi takes care of her twin KiKi and asks Lake for an arrangement so her sister's health would be better. What she doesn't know is KiKi is actually Lakes mate.
This was ok. It starts as a marriage of convenience with Lake and Yumi making a deal for mating since no one had picked them during the singles event. But when Yumi arrives back in town with her things and her sister, Lake realizes that her sister Kiko is his fated mate. Instead of admitting this to Yumi and Kiko he continues to ignore it and go along with the plan to marry Yumi up till the wedding ceremony. I would have liked this more if Lake had actually been honest from the beginning but instead he hurt both Yumi and Kiko’s feelings in the process. Definitely should have just DNF’d this one when I realized he wasn’t going to be honest but it was only 78 pages so I figured I would see how it played out.
This is book five of the Brides for Beasts (BfB): Bears series and the main characters are bear shifter Lake and twin sisters Yumi and Kiko. Lake has had to watch the woman he thought he loved, mating up with one of his friends instead. The BfB event the Shifter Council had arranged to solve the lack of women in the town, has worked for most of his friends and left him all alone still. He is a bookish bear and wonders if that was why no woman wanted him, annoyed with how his friends have reacted once they found a woman for themselves. He has never believed in fated mates, believing it to be something only shown in books. He leaves the event he was at and decided to go for a run in his fur, when a voice stopped him. Yumi had been at some of the events that week but he hadn’t felt anything for her, and she has a proposition she would like him to consider. She offers to marry him and have his children, if he will support her and her twin sister, allowing them to move from the polluted city of LA to the mountain town of Mystic Hollow.
Kiko has another severe asthma attack at the end of Yumi’s trip away, only to awake in hospital and see her sister has returned early with the amazing news that she is engaged! Yumi quickly has them pack up their meagre belongings and moved into some cabins Lake has rented for them near his home. The wedding is arranged for the end of the week, along with the others who have found their other halves through the event. The only problem that occurs is when Lake sees Kiko for the first time and realises he can’t look away from her as she is his fated mate! Yumi had sworn him to secrecy and he can’t tell Kiko that their marriage is an arrangement to get her out of the city. She would just leave and go back, no matter how bad it was for her! Can lake go through with the wedding when he is clearly meant for another? Hard decisions will have to be made and a way to convince Yumi somehow that he can’t go through with the wedding, or he has to take the hit and marry someone he isn’t really meant for. He has finally understood the way his friends are reacting to their other halves and why, having finally found his own fated mate, just a little bit too late! A few awkward situations are going to have to take place before Lake has the chance of someone to love, be with and have children with, like he has wanted for so long. A great, fun read with the inhabitants of the mystical town and their friends coming together for a group wedding and Lake having to figure out how to be with his fated mate for real! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Lake is lonely and wants to find someone he can love. The woman he wanted chose someone else. He’s discouraged but still looking for a mate. The Brides for Beasts program was the Council’s solution for the shortage of females for mates, but even that hasn’t worked out for Lake. So he went out in the woods for a walk, so preoccupied with his thoughts that he doesn’t hear the woman walk up behind him. He had talked to Yumi Sumida once but couldn’t remember her name. She told him that since neither of them has found anyone yet, they should have a marriage of convenience with each other. She would give him children and for herself, she would need some financial help. Living in LA smog, her twin sister, Kiko, has had a rough 18 months with chronic bronchitis and pneumonia. Unable to work, constantly going to the hospital, and high medical bills have made it difficult for her sister. So when Yumi won a trip, Kiko was glad she had that opportunity to get a break. Kiko returned to her building, only to find the elevator was out of order. Loaded down with groceries, she will have to climb 5 floors of stairs in the heat with her respiratory problems. After only one floor, her asthma begins. Unable to open her new inhaler, she loses consciousness and wakes in a hospital with Yumi standing beside her bed. But she has great news – she is engaged! Her “vacation” had actually been
Yumi tells Kiko that her fiancé lives in the mountains with fresh, clean air. And he has invited them both to move in with him! The women met together at the diner to make their wedding plan, as it will be a group ceremony. Kiko volunteers to be everyone’s maid of honor. When the bell jingles and a man walks in, Kiko’s body immediately responds to the gorgeous man. Neither can stop staring at the other until Kiko jumps up and runs back to the cabin. Lake realizes that he just met his fated mate! Will he say anything to Yumi? Can they “trade” under the circumstances? Or will he go through with the wedding as planned? They certainly can’t be living together now under these new circumstances!
Lake is very disappointed that none of the females that came for the Brides for Bears week call to his bear. The only one that his bear was even slightly interested chose another. He has longed for a family and children his whole adult life. He guesses he will just have to be happy with his books!
Yumi went to the BfB week looking for a husband to help with her financial issues and to provide a home for her twin sister, Kiko. Kiko has had very bad asthma her whole life and living in the horrible air in LA she will never get any better. She will do anything to help her sister, even marrying someone she doesn’t love. When she approaches Lake and asks him to marry her in exchange for helping with their medical bills and letting her sister live with them, she offers him what he has always wanted, children. He agrees because at least he will finally have a family.
When Kiko arrives in Mystic Hollow, she falls in love with the town, and she hasn’t had an asthma attack since she arrived. She is looking forward to living there, finding a job and moving forward with her life. That is until she meets Yumi’s fiancé. She has never been this attracted to a male in her entire life! What is she going to do? There is no way she can live with them and watch Yumi marry him.
When Lake meets Kiko, he knows immediately that she is his fated mate. When he tries to talk to Yumi and tells her they need to tell her the truth about their relationship, she panics and refuses. She knows Kiko will leave and return to LA, a sure death sentence eventually. Boy is Lake between a rock and a hard place!
An excellent addition to the BfB series. A definite must read!.

Temporary Mate is book five of Kym Dillon and Candace Ayers' series, Brides for Beasts: Bears. This is a short insta love story that involves bear shifters, fated mates and a singles event to help said bears to find said brides. While this is book five, it's not essential to read all the books, let alone in order. However, our male hero did appear in book four.
Lake is a sweet, nerdy, strong bear shifter. Like all the men in his small mountain town, he is after his bride, or his fated mate. However, the Brides for Beasts event hasn't gone well for Lake, unlike other guys, he hasn't met his mate. One of the failed brides, Yumi, approaches him with a proposition because she needs financial security and a place for her beloved sister to move with her. Yumi's sister has severe asthma and LA is just not working for the sisters. Lake was fine with that, then he meets Yumi's sister, Kiko... his fated mate.
This is a quick read and while I found that I had to suspend my disbelief surrounding the whole love triangle, or lack thereof. But really, in the end, that didn't matter, because this was just a fun instalove romance and I enjoyed it. I was so happy that Lake got his HEA.

Right family, wrong sister - Yumi and Lake struck a bargain that proved fruitful for them both, but not how they envisioned. Her sister is Lake's fated mate, a head-spinning revelation after Alice was snatched up by Waylon. He can't betray Yumi's trust by revealing the truth to Kiko, but he also can't bring himself to wed Yumi. His bear's not having it! His honor is on the line, but his heart longs for Kiko, also torn by loyalty to her sister. A great finale to the series as Lake fights for his woman and Kiko gets her own teddy bear. Yumi's turn will come though. Keep reading the BfB tales. Wolves ("read"-em, loved'em) and Dragons (gonna read -em) are up next.
An overall great series, with steamy love scenes and bears who just want their perfect person and won't back down until she is his. The AI narration isn't totally awful, but nothing beats a human's ability to inject tone at the right time. Also, AI doesn't always do the best job distinguishing between "teers" and "tares" or "reed" and "red" for examples.
I liked the story 'Temporary Mate' by Candace Ayers very much. Lake, a bear shifter, is longing for a mate. All his friends are finding happiness with their mates, and he is lonely. Then, a woman named Yumi comes up with the idea of a marriage of connivence in order to pay for her asthmatic sister's medical bills and so that her sister can move with her into the good mountain air. He accepts and everything is fine until he meets her sister, Kiko, and realizes that she is his true mate. He does not want to marry the wrong sister, but he has agreed with Yumi not to tell Kiko why they are getting married. It is a good story and you can sense the desperation between Lake and Kiko as they realize that they are falling in love with each other.

MMC/FMC- Lake and Kiko POV- 1st person dual Genre- Paranormal Romance Sub Genre- Shifters (Bear) Heat- they don’t do the thing until it’s technically not cheating Series? Y Safety: N. Emotional Cheating, OM/OW Drama. Cliffhanger? N HEA/HFN? Y Triggers- this may be triggering for some people because it contains emotional cheating. There’s also erotic content. Tropes- Marriage of Convenience, Fated Mates, I Didn’t Even Know She Had A Sister What I liked- the Hero is an avid reader, as is the heroine. And the way the book describes his scent- perfection! What I didn’t- I found the Hero a little hard to warm up to at first, but it got better. Question- Do they bottle a cologne that would smell as good as this guy? Verdict- recommended.

Lake has not been lucky enough to find his fated mate but one of the available brides makes a proposition of marriage so Yumi can take care of her sister Kiko. He agrees but when he meets Kiko, he finds his true fated mate. Now he has to figure out a way to make things right and not hurt Yumi. Loved the characters, their book loving quirks and tight bond of twin sisters. This short story holds so much detail and emotion that I was hooked from the start. The storyline is heartwarming, protective, accepting and joyous. The ending pulls it all together in a great way. Can not wait to read more of the group, especially Yumi.

I loved Temporary Mate Book 5 of Brides for Beasts: Bears. Lake made a deal with Yumi since they both needed something, it wasn’t about love until her twin came to town. Kilo is so drawn to Lake but she can’t be, it’s not right. Unfortunately, their situation isn’t normal and things unfurl fast. This is a short and sweet read. I loved the storyline and the characters. Both to smart for their own good but the perfect match. Throw in a little drama and his have a great book. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.

I enjoyed this. I wish I had a Lake to sweep me off my feet and take me to his very own library.
After neither of them find a match Yumi asks Lake to marry her. She will provide him with a family and he will help them cover her sisters medical expenses and let her live with them.
I even liked Yumi she would do anything for her sister including marrying a stranger.
When Kira shows up Lake realises she is his fated mate. There are a few struggles but they get their happy ending
Only thing that bothered me is when she is having an asthma attack it seems that Lake sooths her with some shifter thing but that's not confirmed and I would have liked it to be
Had he made the wrong mistake? He’d agreed to marry one of the girls on the BfB program but when he met her sister, wham, it hit him, she was his fated mate!
What to do? How could he let one sister down and claim to love the other. He couldn’t keep away from his mate and how was he going to tell his fiancée that he was madly in love with her sister.
A fun, fast paced read, sure to make your heart sing with the romance of it all!.

Lake thought Alice was his perfect match, they had so much in common but she ended up with Waylon. This was a fun read full of emotions and rich with details, including Lake's scent ;P Lake is a shifter bear that's been having no luck finding his match through the BfB program. Yumi, also having no luck finding a match, proposes a marriage of convenience to accommodate her sister's health issues. Yeah, great idea until he meets Kiko, Yumi's sis, and realizes she's his fated mate... I loved the characters, their interactions and all the feels as this story unfolded to a great HEA. It's another engaging addition to this fun series :D
Extraordinary! At what lengths we will go for the ones we love. Lake wants a family and a mate. Yumi wants to help her sister. Yumi proposes financially stability for a family and children, Lake agrees. When Yumi's sister, Kiko, shows up Lake realizes his mistake. He's marrying the wrong sister. This was a beautiful disaster if I ever seen one. Fate works in mysterious ways. Amazing read!! Wonderful series of people finding love in an unconventional way.

"The universe apparently has it out for me today."
Lake is a bear shifter discovering love is richer and more complex than he imagined, but he just might get more than he bargained for.
This done in one Kindle unlimited quick read stands solidly on its own, and tells a beautiful story about family and the well intentioned things we'll do for those we love.
I read Temporary Mate in Kindle unlimited and chose to share my thoughts.
Lots of family love, and loyalty, and sacrifice. Both twin sisters will do anything to care for, and support the other. Lake was fine with the business type agreement he makes with Yumi, but all bets are off when Kiko arrived. Suddenly his Bear is frantic because his fated mate is here, and he's not having the sister as a substitute. It all works out, and they have a beautiful life ahead.
Oh you are really getting me with this one!!! The reference to Austen and Tolkin made me smile! Pride and Prejudice title drop... Girl.... You are killing me!!!!! Loved it!!!! I absolutely loved this book and the way it summed up things... And now I have to read the next wolf shifter ones! You are taking me down a road I didn't know I wanted to be on! Love it! Just love it!
Oh man…what a letdown! There was such a huge buildup for this last book in the series that I was sure it was going to be a real doozy. Not! The storyline was so transparent—but still a good read. You’ll need to read this one to understand what’s happening in the next series. Even though Book 5 fell s bit short, I’m going to move onto the next series because I’m hooked! Grab Book 5 and let’s get ready for the next group of shifters!!
Hijole.
I loved this series. These authors write wonderful shifter series. Lake and Kiko are wonderful characters. Their story is sweet. The happy ever after they find is heartwarming. The other characters in this series are wonderful as well. I really recommend you read it.
There are still some unmated men and women when the BfB event is almost over. Lake is one of them, but the woman he want is mated to one of his friends. Yumi doesn't have a mate either, but she comes up with a plan that she shares with Lake. He agrees with it and now she has a way to get her sick sister out of LA.
The love story of Lake and Kiko. Lake want a bride, so he a bargain with Kiko's sister. She marry him and have his children and she get financial help for her sister, Kiko. But Kiko meets Lake and their are fated mate. Will he be able to marry other woman? Great story.
Plot: Kiko's sister entered into the Bride program in order to find a way out of the city for her severely asthmatic sister. Kiko needs fresh air and a way to pay her medical bills, so Lake agrees to marry Yumi. But when Kiko arrives, he discovers that she is actually his fated mate, even though he's supposed to marry her sister. What a mess!
Commentary: All of their problems could have been solved by all of them getting together and talking. Although it was nice that there was no mean sister - her sister was sacrificing her chance at love to help her sister and she was doing the same thing.
I loved the Lake and Kikos love story. There wasn’t any kidnappings or couple fights where they broke up and got back together a few times before finally settling down and finally I love ending where is pregnant at the end. This is actually my second time reading this story. 🌟
Another sizzling read in this series. This is book five in this series Brides for Beasts. The story will keep you glued till the end. The chemistry between the characters is sizzling. You will enjoy this book and series.
Really enjoyed reading it this book it was charming and romantic. I'm still loving this series can't wait for the next one, I would definitely recommend this book.

He want a mate so he wouldn't be lonely anymore, so he made a deal with one of the BfB. She was at the BfB just to help her sister so she would agree to anything even a marriage in name only.
This fifth installment of the series was well written and kept me reading in one sitting thanks to the entertaining characters created by this dynamic duo.
