This has been my least favorite of the series. The A plot follows the Ham brothers arriving in the island to get even with Charlie for the death of their brother. The B plot follows a death in the island of one of Dot's neighbors's son. While the book was still fun, I thought that Jake was way too willing to break the law and look past stuff because of Charlie. I also didn't get why Charlie would tell Jake anything that could jeopardize his career. She is way too willing to put his entire life and her friends' lives on the line because of something she could just keep to herself.
Your books are funny and I enjoy them, and when you started, you didn’t have the F word in there about 100 times or a talk about sex toys constantly. Your books are funny the mysteries are good. You don’t need all of that mess because you’re skirting out of cozy mystery Into smut. I really feel like you’re better than that.
You've got to love Charlie (Charlotte Gibson, PI extraordinary). She and her sidekicks, Dot and Rosie will keep you laughing through every book. Think of the two women as Charlie's Geriatric Mafia, because come what may, they have her back, all the while looking like two innocent old ladies. Her boyfriend Jake, the head Detective for the Maui police department is certain she will age him before his time because trouble follows her like it's attached. In this book Charlie, Jake and her sidekicks are trying to keep Charlie alive while the infamous Ham brothers from Seattle are trying just as hard to make sure she isn't. But never let it be said Charlie is idle, her PI business never seems to get a rest, even when she's running for her life!
Though the story was good as usual, I'm torn about the outcome with the Ham brothers. I'm really not sure about it and how it ended. Part of me understands the why, but the other part of me questions if I could live with myself with the afterwards. I'm also wondering how this will affect Charlie and Jake's relationship down the line. Time will tell... Also, again too many typos and inconsistencies.
Everytime Charlie came up with a probable suspect it was proven it wasn't them? She kept digging and finally figured out who killed Matt and how. Everyone was pleased but the swindler. Next on the list was the last Ham brother that was out to kill her. Jake at the risk of his own life went out to save Charlie. Later he tells her he loves her and she responds in like manner. Excellent read
Still funny after 9 books. There's a certain satisfaction that you feel reading how Charlie interacts with her arch enemies, the Hamm brothers. She successfully solves a murder besides.
This high quality book has a lot of exciting stuff happening... whether it's a cliffhanger kidnapping or the stuff that made me fall off my chair laughing but I don't want to spoil it for anyone...
This may be one of my favorite Charlie stories! I figured out some of the “Who done it” early on, but the story kept me throughly enticed. Charlie’s ability to be unfazed by whatever life throws at her, makes the story so fun to read, along with the wit and the story development these stories are fantastic! I love this series!
