Father Christmas needs a holiday. He isn't feeling well and someone seems determined to ruin the festivities. It's up to Christmas Elves, Tog and Holly, to find a way to deliver the presents on time and bring the Christmas magic back for everyone.
A laugh-out-loud race against time with a heartwarming message of teamwork, and the perfect stocking filler for all the family to enjoy this Christmas.
I have really enjoyed listening to this series of books by Ben Miller. I know they are children’s books, and I’m 60!! But at Christmas I am just a kid as well. Easy to listen to and fun to put yourself in the eyes of a child
This was the most meh of the three books. Had Santa and Co separated from the action on an island, which I feel like got tiresome quickly. There also wasn't a lot to do on said island, which made both the characters and me rather board. In the areas I wish there was more character development, like the last 10% when things actually started happening, it was clearly lacking. I think more could have been done with the evil daughter turned rebellious good and it was incredibly quickly skipped over. I'd say, read the first one. Maybe the second if your kids are enjoying them. But skip this one.
As this was the final book in the series, part of me would have liked it to go on a little longer. However, this didn’t take away any enjoyment from the plot. It had the same characters, lots of humour and a few more illustrations, all of which I loved. I would have liked a little more closure to the ending, but based on how good the other aspects were, I can forgive it. Another thing I really liked was how the format/appearance changed near the end. It was a nice surprise as the previous 2 books hadn’t done that.
Father Christmas is sent to the Maldives - accompanied by Tog - for a pre-Christmas rest and so that Holly can work out just who is trying to sabotage Christmas, yet again. Surely, it can’t be anything to do with Ola, Max, Fizz and Eva, again, can it! Can Tog and Holly come together to help save Christmas and bring about some Christmas cheer?
Another advent style elf adventure from Ben Miller that shows us a very different, fun, side to Father Christmas, who really shows he’s down with the kids and full of fun. A lovely, fun, festive read.
I'm not sure if it's been changed now in a different edition or anything but in my copy there was some grammatical errors and on the blurb Holly's name was spelled wrong. This really annoyed me to be honest but I also enjoyed the book.
Great third book in a trilogy set. Myself and my daughter love following Tog and become engrossed in his mishaps together! Fab description from Ben Miller
I really enjoyed the characters, plot and adventure. I liked the Christmas magic and the fun. It made me laugh a little. It was alright but not his best book.
I purchased this as a quick xmas read and thought would be good as aimed at kids. Was okay but did not know that it was 3rd and final part of a series. Kids would like it
2023 Review 127. Adventures of a Christmas Elf by Ben Miller
Page Count : 181
This is the newest book in this series, released in 2023.
Once again written as diary entries, this seems to be a combination of entries from Holly and also from Tog.
Someone seems to be determined to ruin Christmas again and Father Christmas seems to be unwell, so it is decided that Father Christmas needs a holiday away from the North Pole until things get sorted out.
I really enjoyed this book. The section about Father Christmas's holiday was quite funny as I have been to the place he goes on holiday in the past.
Like both the 2nd and 3rd books, this is a very short book and I read it extremely quickly because I enjoyed it.
There were parts of this book that had me smiling while I was reading it and then bits which made me feel extremely festive especially when Father Christmas began delivering the presents.
This book reveals that one of its characters is all about 2nd chances and gives you a very warm feeling.
If you like Christmas books and have read any of Ben Miller's previous books, I recommend this one.
