Kemper Ribar was searching for an oasis where he could recharge his batteries when he stumbled upon the Wrong Side of Heaven, an intriguing bar in the middle of nowhere. He hoped this pit stop would prove to be the respite he was looking for from the politics of his motorcycle club.
As a forty-year-old man, Kemper never anticipated that he would find himself making an instant connection with Chester, a free spirit operating what he came to realize was the town’s only gay bar. Flustered, he flees. But something keeps drawing him back, and soon, Kemper realizes that life could be different.
As the attraction builds between the two, it makes Kemper question everything … his identity, his choices, even his devotion to his club.

Ribar was a long time member of a motorcycle club, disillusioned and questioning when he stumbles into a gay bar owned by Chester. I enjoyed this little book with Ribar wondering about his life and making choices with lasting repercussions. Chester is cool and casual encouraging Ribar to find what he really wants. With some levity supplied by three drag queens, the life choices are decided and he figures out it's all about Chester for him. I received a copy of this book through BookSirens and this is my honest opinion.
4.5 stars. Dang, that was a great read. It’s about Kemper, a nearly forty-year-old biker who seemed to outgrow his club, and about Chester an owner of a gay bar.
The new Pres is a drug head and doesn’t like Kemper, he does everything to make Kemper’s life miserable. One night, after avoiding the club and taking a ride, Kemper ends up at a bar. It’s a fresh breath to relax until he finds out it’s a gay bar and the great guy behind the bar is gay. Gone is Kemper.
Chester is disappointed because the biker is a nice and good-looking guy. He’s surprised to find him again on another night and he even gets an apologize Kemper returns more and more, confused, on one side he got his club and homophobic president, but also knows he’s attracted to Chester and doesn’t want to leave him.
The story has mellow moments, simple daily matters, sexy moments, hard confrontations, heavy club issues, wonderful mature main characters, and last but not least, some great secondary characters. The whole story felt truly convincing. The author has a very pleasant way of writing. I highly enjoyed this read!
Kemper Ribar is turning forty and things in his life don’t seem to be going well anymore. He’s been a brother of the Burning Reapers Motorcycle club since the age of eighteen. As a prospect he would do anything to earn his patch and he did a year later. The club atmosphere has really changed and he no longer feels comfortable there. Two many parties with alcohol, various drugs, sex and all funded with the clubs money. All under the orders of the new prez, Zeus, who he constantly butts head with.
Finding his own space he always goes out on the road, in the wild, to clear his head. He knows what the feeling of confinement is like as he was once in jail and the long rides help him escape those old feelings.
He’s curious when he sees a sign “Wrong Side of Heaven” out there in the wilderness. He can’t help but turn around and go back. He’s surprised to find a bar and decides to stay and have a drink. He meets the very personable, bartender, Chester. He and the goth type, head banger hit it off with great conversation. They find that they have lot’s in common with music. But when Ribar realizes he’s in a gay bar, things go south quickly. He’s basically been dismissed by Chester. Even though Chester retains his professionalism, he still checks on Ribar. He also let’s Ribar known that he fears is other “bikers” would come and destroy his bar.
Returning to the clubhouse Ribar really looks around at the mess and really evaluates how different things are since he was eighteen. This new prez isn’t doing the club any good and he stands up to Zeus. When Ribar returns to Heaven, he’s still welcomed by Chester and he meets new people. Will Ribar continue on with the issues of the club and Zeus? Has he finally found a place of ease and comfort at Heaven with it’s owner?
Elizabeth Monvey writes a clear and easy flowing story about life changing. It reflects that your never too old to learn, experience and evolve. It’s just not a story of a biker and bartender, it has important subject matter. The author takes time to explain that; not all drag queens are gay; how the word “queer” has been re-claimed as a sign of pride; how sexuality is diverse and what really defines each individual.
I absolutely loved Kemper Ribar and Chester. Their gradual feelings for each other turn into something beautiful and it really brings the steam and romance to the story. They have so much in common and new things to learn about each other. Their conversations are heart felt and Chester gives new life to Kemper.
Amazing characters: Lulu Balzac, Madame Summer Night and Ophelia Bang-Bang. The comradery between these three individuals is wonderful and it brings so much cute banter, snark and humor to the story.
This is a first time read for me by Elizabeth Movey and I was surprised how much I liked this story. “Wrong Side of Heaven” is a wonderful story with a gradual relationship, drama and fun. Worth the read!
I fell for Kemper and Chester. Kemper/Ribar has been with his motorcycle club for over 20 years, and he wouldn’t have it any other way, but the new president was making his life difficult, making everyone’s life difficult by using the drugs that were meant to be sold. Yes, it was party night every night at the club, but Kemper had had enough. One day when he was out on a run he stopped at a bar called wrong side of Heaven. He liked the name of the bar, so he stopped in for a beer only to find that it’s a gay bar. The guy behind the bar doesn’t like his attitude so he tries to pay. Chester The owner pushes his money back saying he doesn’t want his money with the attitude he has. Kemper leaves and heads back to the club confused. When he got back, another party was going on, but the president accused him of stealing Kemper was just frustrated. Chester couldn’t understand why he kept thinking about the biker. It was obvious that he was straight, but he just made his body sing. And he was very surprised when Kemper returned. He could tell he was getting flustered with the drag queens, so he took pity on him and ask him to help in the storeroom. He could feel a tension between them. Chester knew his was sexual tension that he didn’t know about the biker. Kemper couldn’t understand why he couldn’t stop thinking about Chester, but he knew that begin at the bar was better than being at his club. So how will this end??? This is the first book, I’ve read by Elizabeth Monvey and I’ve got to say I was totally blown away. I took a chance on this book because I liked the teaser as I like to call them and she just did not disappoint. This was a fantastic read. My heart went out to Kemper He was just totally confused about his sexuality, but he didn’t care Chester was a man it was what he felt when he was with him. And Chester really took a chance on him because he wasn’t sure how his biker was going to react. I’ve got to say the passion that these two share and the connection is just outstanding. It’s just Lush it is what we all want from a relationship. A fantastic read and I will look out for Elizabeth again because this book was just heaven to read.

It's been a while since I read an MC romance and I was surprised by this one. It had two characters who on the surface were so different, but found commonality through shared experience, respect, and enjoyment of each other's (er) company. That both were mature characters in terms of their ages was an additional positive for me.
This MC romance challenges the heteronormative stereotypes of one percenters - I mean, it goes with the turf doesn't it. I'm not sure how realistic this is through and the outcomes but I was pretty invested in the story regardless!
We see a 20+ year veteran of an MC who is extremely disillusioned with his life. What was his norm seems empty to him and he is questioning his future. He stumbles into a bar not expecting it to challenge his world views, with an initial interest in the owner. Ribar (our biker) doesn't understand what's happening himself, and we see his struggles early in the book. He is a surprisingly insightful individual, belying his previous involvement in all things illegal, and his acknowledgement of the role the MC has played in his life. That he returns to explore his attraction to Chester, even when he doesn't understand it, was such a significant aspect within the book. (I think more could have been made of it TBH).
What was also appealing in this story was the colourful characters in Chester's bar - the second found family for Ribar.
There was much soul searching by Ribar and he isolates himself to do this. I think where this story might have been expanded upon with more interactions with the MC brothers and their struggles or acceptance (this would be huge in that world right?); more about Chester's journey even though this primarily seems to be Ribar's story (I wanted them to have equal footing because they are both great characters).

Beat my expectations by a long shot. I have never read this out there before, and because it was a free book, I decided to take a chance. I was so impressed with the writing, the emotions that were put into this book. How on earth would you blend a 40 year old biker, who has only known that world, his entire life to a gay bar, and a very laid-back, easy-going overworked bar owner. Ribar was not only a biker, but one that had never shown interest in a male. But the biker club he was in, was not the same as it was. He loved club life, but it had gone downhill. Maybe it was just him. Out on a long ride he decided to stop at a bar“the wrong side of Heaven“ the name actually fit when he found out it was a gay bar, but what really worked for him was Chester. He was easy to talk to, easy to listen to, and definitely easy to look at. Now he was more confused than ever. Could Kemper Ribar be any more confused.? Chester was perfect, and he found himself physically aroused by him. Kemper had so much to figure out about himself, his life, and how to blend the biker life, which you loved so much with this new life that he was more than willing to figure out and be a part of. More than that he was pretty sure he was falling in love with Chester and Chester knew he was in love with Kemper. This book it, everything that you could want not only in a romance, but in a biker book, in a book with MM, and more importantly, a book about self discovery. I absolutely love this book. I cannot wait to read more of this author.
This is the first time I've read this authors book and I must say it was great. Kemper Ribar is a member of a outlaw MC club, but he no longer finds pleasure in his life. At forty, he feels restless and seems to have no purpose in life. While returning to the club, he decides to stop at a roadside bar whose name captured his attention. In this way, he unknowingly ends up in a gay bar, where he meets an intriguing bartender, and also the owner of the place. This meeting turns out to be a turning point in his life. This book is in the straight to gay romance genre. However, it does not focus so much on the physical side of romance, but more on Kemper's discovery and acceptance of his own sexuality. Ribar, although he considers himself a tolerant man, the thought that he could feel any interest in another man is terrifying to him. The colorful drag queen characters who bring a lot of humor to the story are like aliens to him (although with their personalities you could sometimes say that they are rather invaders 😉). The best thing about this book is the great portrayal of the characters. It is a wonderful story about fighting prejudice and finding friends and love in unexpected places and circumstances.

This novella follows Kemper Ribar and Chester. Ribar is a biker that is at odds with his MC (the President specifically) and while driving one night he stumbles across Wrong Side of Heaven, a bar owned by Chester.
At first Ribar gets uncomfy, not in homophobic way, but a self reflection way. Over a few visits, he knows he wants to be there and wants to be around Chester but struggles to understand how things can be wildly shifting internally at 40.
Chester and Ribar (changes to his first name, Kemper, a couple chapters in) bloom organically and over time. There is an instant connection but they grow their relationship from friendship naturally.
I loved the depth of this novella. Some things came off kind of cheesy but it fit. Kemper learned a lot along the way and everyone was open to educating him on terms and the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole.
The Golden Girls were everything and more.
This novella is just an amazing telling of community and friendship that’s found when someone feels like they’re floating without purpose. Kemper finds his people and his person all in one.
The icing was great and I was pleasantly surprised by how much development there was in such a short book.
I received a copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary review!
Ribar, a disillusioned biker, stops in a bar because the name appeals to him. When he walks into the bar, he instantly understands that it is not like any bar he’s seen before. It turned out that it was a gay bar. He exits stage left after declaring to the charming bartender, Chester, that he isn't troubled by the sight. But it would be a very disappointing and short novel if it ended there.😆🤣😆
Ribar feels the need to escape the clubhouse tension resulting from the club president's paranoia. For reasons he can't quite explain, he keeps going to the bar (and Chester) and even begins assisting Chester with his honey do list. Ribar feels disengaged from his club and its members, but he finds relief in Chester's sympathetic ear and encouraging words. When Ribar develops romantic feelings for a man for the first time, he experiences a roller coaster of emotions.
The novel is well-paced and presents a compelling glimpse how circumstances are evolving and how we as humans adapt and question life and our choices in it. Ribar and Chester's love tale is sweet and low-key. It is rounded out by three drag queens (dubbed "the Golden Girls" by Ribar) who provide considerable comic relief.

Independent reviewer for Book Sirens, I was gifted my copy of this book.
I think what I liked most about this book, was the way it really did creep up on me! Much the same way that Chester crept up on Ribar! I loved the way Ribar didn't really question WHY he needed Chester, just that he did. he didn't question why he wanted to touch and kiss Chester, he just ran with it. I really REALLY loved that!
I wasn't sure which way things were gonna go down at the club, with the Pres being how he was, but whichever way I saw that going, it was inevitable someone would not come out the other end.
It carries a lot of the usual things that motorcycle club stories do, so be mindful of any of your triggers.
It's dark and deadly, but equally sweet and smexy. I really REALLY liked the way Monvey told this tale, and I would like to read more by this author. This was the first I've read of their work. My wish list just got a whole lot longer!
Kemper Ribar did not want to party at the clubhouse that night, what used to be fun when he was younger, at almost forty it no longer had any appeal. Out on a ride at night he comes across a bar, the Wrong Side of Heaven and decides to check it out. He makes a connection with the bartender, Chester, until he realizes it is a gay bar, a bit flustered he leaves. It is not long before he finds himself back there again. He makes friends with Chester, but he keeps coming back as he is attracted to Chester and it is throwing everything he has known about himself.
As the pair becomes closer, Kemper is having issues with his club, will choices be made for him before he can figure out what he wants?
This was a beautiful story, Kemper was at a crossroads in his life and was looking for something more, he never expected the Wrong Side of Heaven was exactly what he needed.

Looking for the why of life. Midlife crisis, regret and apathy. Ribar spends more time reflecting on how he's living and his life choices. He feels like he's stuck in a rut in his MC the Burning Reepers. He is out riding and decides to visit a bar called The Wrong Side of Heaven. He is disconcerted to discover it's a gay bar. Ribar is ready to look closely at his life. Why is he seeing the world differently? Why is his Club Pres, Zeus so hard on him? Chester, the bar owner befriends Ribar and they have great conversations. This is a fun story, a thinking story and a teaching story. I enjoyed getting to know the bikers, the bar owner and patrons and Ribar. Will Ribar figure out the secret of his life? Will Chester be victorious? Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Wrong Side of Heaven is the place that Kemper walks into. It isn't your usual bar. It's a gay bar and the bartender/owner, Chester sees this biker walk in and wonders just what is going to happen. What he doesn't expect is for Kemper to keep coming back again and again. Kemper is straight. Only wanted women, never a man. But there is something about Chester that has Kemper thinking about him often. Plus the customers at the bar welcome him like this biker club hasn't done in a very long time. The biker club is changing for the worse and Kemper has to make a decision on staying or going his own way, along with Chester.
I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from Elizabeth Monvey.

A rough, disillusioned biker walks into a bar and orders a beer. As his eyes adjust to the dim light, he realizes it's a gay bar. Furthermore, the people who he thought were women in the corner are drag queens who seem interested in coming on to him. This sounds like the opening to a disaster and it could be. Instead, it is the opening to a charming story about a man who had believed himself to be a tough guy whose needs were limited to drugs, drink, and women but discovers he wants the warmth of family that the Wrong Side of Heaven, a gay bar in the middle of nowhere can provide. At one point, our protagonist Kemper asks, "Does this make me queer?" And one of the minor but wiser characters answers, "You don't have to label everything."
Ah, advice for the ages. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I read this book in one setting, and absolutely loved it. Kemper, whom was nearly 40 years old. And has always loved women, which were at his disposal in his motorcycle club. He went for a drive, decided to stop at a bar, for a quick drink. Not realizing it was a gay bar.
Had a quick conversation with chester(bartender) then left feeling "uncomfortable " in that kind of setting... but yet, he kept finding himself back at the bar.
The more time he spent with Chester, the more he questioned his own sexuality. Was he gay, bi, or just 'chestersexual'
With question his sexuality, his frustration with the club. Chester just didn't what he was or even who he was anymore. What was he to do?
This story brings many LGBTQ+ issues to the forefront. When a straight MC man ends up in a gay bar, he meets gay men and drag queens, including one straight drag queen. He is uncomfortable but something draws him there and he starts to question some things about himself. His reactions and that of the MC club he belongs to show the ignorance and prejudice that meets the queer community.
I found the story uplifting and romantic and I wanted more when I finished the book. There is an HEA and no cliffhanger. There is graphic gay sex and references to the straight debauchery that goes on at the MC clubhouse.

When Kemper Ribar is looking for a place to escape the politics of his motorcycle club, he ends up at Wrong Side of Heaven, a gay bar in a nearby town. He isn’t comfortable and leaves soon after, but not before making a connection with bar owner Chester. Unable to stay away, he returns several times, finding himself unable to get Chester off his mind, and having questions about his own sexuality and the biker lifestyle. Conflicted feelings and a break with his Club force him to a crisis of conscience to re-examine his priorities and his feelings for this man who has apparently somehow won his heart. A short but engaging read for 4.5 stars.

Chester loves his bar. His patrons, for the most part gay, as is he. The night the biker entered his bar he wasn’t sure what to think. Kemper Ribar had lived and breathed his motorcycle club his whole adult life. Though lately his dissatisfaction was getting the better of him. He went to the bar on a whim but kept going back, why he wasn’t sure.
A bi-awakening (or possibly just gay for you) story with a lot of heart. Separately these guys were good, together they were wonderful. I read all most exclusive MM stories and this one was special. Not sure why exactly. It just ticked all the boxes for me. Really liked the book.
Minimum angst, drug use (not main characters), and some violence.
This was an absolutely amazing read. The story was deep and it had me laughing out loud I found myself giddy in anticipation of what would happen next. The author is very talented the dialogue was smooth and realistic. The characters were unforgettable and unique. There isn’t a single thing I would change about this book I was able to effortlessly relate to the characters and really sink into it. I loved the author writing style, story, and sense of humour, this is a book I will happily read over and over again and I know a lot of people will love it. Kemper Ribar is going through a mid life crisis, he's 40 years old, in a motorcycle club that's going downhill with the new president. He's riding through town & comes across a bar he's never noticed before, with the mood he's in he decides why not, lets go in. He meets Chester the bartender/owner of the club, Kemper being a newbie they chat it up . The bar turns out to be a gay bar. He leaves in a hurry only to find himself constantly coming back. Ribar, a 40 year old biker gang member was having troubles with his gang Prez. The gang had changed long ago and Ribar is now torn to leave. Going for a ride he stumbled upon a bar owned by Chester. Ribar doesn't know why he keeps returning to Chester's bar. This book is a fast read and so sweet.
The Queens are hysterical. I need them as friends. Their names are brilliant.

A really sweet, funny, romantic story about Ribar, a disillusioned biker, who was so likeable as he questioned his sexuality after meeting Chester in his gay bar. Chester was so charming. I loved the drag queens who brought so much humour and we had tension with the motorcycle club president. I loved this story.

This was a good read! Older (40) GFY awakening of a 1% biker and a gay, bar owner.
Disillusioned with his current life and found family in the Reapers, Kemper/Ribar finds a new found family amongst the patrons of 'The Wrong Side of Heaven' and love with Chester the owner.
A little spice & good songs along with facing a small sector of homophobia and off page unaliving.

Ribar and Chester seemed an unlikely coupling in this novella. I was pleasantly surprised how natural it felt and how their relationship developed and loved the queens on the side. Ribar his turning point in live came at the right time and after distancing from his biker 'family' for a bit he finds a new family. I am happybthatbthe author leaves Ribar his sexuality label truely fluid.

I ended up taking a while to finish this because life got in the way but when I was able to pick it back up it was a quick delightful read that I thoroughly enjoyed. The story was a little simple but the relationship between Kemper and Chester and Kempers journey of self exploration were wonderful. I loved both main characters and the supporting cast and I was rooting for them from the get go.

Kemper Ribir is a member of the Burning Reapers motorcycle club, and has been since he was seventeen. The current president Zeus is a hot headed drug addict who hates Ribir and feels threatened. On a ride back to the clubhouse he stops at Wrong Side of Heaven a bar along the highway. Chester is the current owner, and it is a gay bar. Kemper feels uncomfortable but keeps coming back. Chester and Kemper become friends. This story is full of action, drama, questions and love.
So good! I love a good sexual awakening and this one was superb. I loved that Kemper wasn't afraid to examine his sexuality. He was confused, sure, but he was never rude to Chester about it. Not on purpose anyway. Chester was so patient and caring. I loved the friendship they developed first. It was beautiful.
I really enjoyed "Wrong Side of Heaven". It is a great story with wonderfully written characters. I wouldn't say it starts off slow but I definitely became more absorbed with each page. There is drama, self reflection, friendship, romance and love.

My 1st experience of this author’s books and I would definitely look for more of her work based on this book. It was well written and balanced the new to MM relationship with the move from a very macho environment. Great read.

One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch! A selfish club prez makes it impossible for Ribar to ignore. Plus, he was using Ribar as his errand boy/whipping boy with menial chores. I liked that Ribar retained his integrity throughout. I also appreciated that Ribar was open to a new and different relationship, which I found gratifying and authentic. I voluntarily read a free copy of this provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion
