06/01/26: I cannot believe that a book written by someone who worked for the OS only contains one map. Unbelievable! Each chapter needed its own as a minimum, to help us make sense of where he went.
Also, too much archaeological explanation. Definitely better than Morton’s book though. Loved his analysis of Captain Henry Morgan as probably the best pirate ever, as he’s my seven times great uncle.
01/12/25: to be continued once Father Christmas brings me the associated H. V. Morton book.

I too used to love straddling the old bridge at Chepstow, one foot in either country. I still push my feet forward in the front of the car when coming down from Tutshill, to be the first in Wales, saying it too, to my husband’s continual annoyance.
