A sweet and clean stand-alone in the historical Mail Order Papa Series. Buy A Banker for Bethany, today!
The Mail-Order Papa series will consist of clean, Christian-based, historical books. Rather than a mail-order bride, what about a mail-order groom? Sometimes, even a woman has to take a chance to find happiness.
Bethany Hamilton, eighteen years old was forced into a role she hadn’t planned. With the death of her mother, followed by the illness her father suffered, and then grief leading to his abandonment, she has had to place her own dreams on hold. Raising her sisters, Franny age ten, and toddler, Emma. Now, she is fighting off the advances of a man, Sablier. She needs to find a mail-order groom and writes out an ad.
“Sioux Falls, SD. Accomplished young woman—aged 18—from respectable family seeks mature businessman for friendship and possible matrimony.”
Thomas Rose of Boston, Massachusetts, works for Becker Fischer Bank. He will make a proposal to his employer, Mr. Becker, about moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to open a bank branch.
“It’s your chance to prove yourself, to make the life you want. No one else will do it for you.”
The story has mystery, suspense, and danger. Bethany has been vague with nosey people in town about her father, but how much longer can she make excuses? Then Sablier shows up and makes claims and threats. Bethany needs to find a husband and protector for her and her sisters, and their farm. When Thomas travels by train and stagecoach, and finally arrives, he is shocked not to be met by Bethany. Has she changed her mind? What will happen when he confronts her?
“A good woman will stand with you, shoulder to shoulder. She’ll make a home. Help you make a family. She’ll be a foundation for you to build your new lives upon.”
I liked the characters in this sweet romance. Bethany and Thomas write letters back and forth getting to know each other. They have a rough beginning but work through things. One thing is for sure, he won’t tolerate a man like Sablier bullying Bethany and her sisters. Unlike the other stories in this series, where the men come into the marriage with a child, in this one, Thomas will come into a marriage and take on the role and responsibilities of Bethany’s sisters. In the end, we have the coveted happily ever after ending.
Awesome! Bethany Hamilton has a lot of burden on those eighteen year old shoulders , she has two sisters Franny , 10 and baby Emma to raise , since her mom died and her father upped sticks and abandoned them . Things are looking dire and desperate measures are needed when they risk homelessness and so young Bethany puts in an ad for a mail order husband. Thomas Rose a banker in Boston answers the ad , hoping to open a bank of his own in Sioux Falls, Dakota . He didn’t bargain on raising a couple of siblings to boot…. What will he do with this new revelation and what does it mean for the three siblings? Charming , sweet and beautiful romance . Well constructed , characters are great and the scene setting is sublime. I read an advance copy of this book and my review is my own words voluntary given
This book grabs you immediately! I read it all in one session because I couldn’t put it down. Bethany’s life has been turned upside down by circumstances she couldn’t control. Times are desperate. Danger lurks.
Thomas is a young banker in Boston wondering if he should make a huge life change.
You’ll love the characters, and you’ll be pulling for Bethany and be enchanted by the intersection of their lives.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Received a free copy during #romancebookblast ... a 1-day free romance event (April 23, 2024)
I enjoyed reading a book about a mail-order papa instead of a mail-order bride (which I like a lot). Bethany and Thomas are a cute couple! They respect each other, take time to communicate from early on and treat each other as partners with regards to his business (bank) and her home (farm). Meaning they discuss important decisions together instead of "I'm the man and head of the house" which could easily be done during this time period. Each had expectations before meeting but were easily able to discuss things and reach a compromise, if such was needed. #CoupleGoals
There was an obstacle/situation to overcome and I liked how it was handled. She didn't merely rely on the man to resolve it. She showed how quick thinking she is and handled it as well as she could before he arrived and began helping.
I would read more in this series and also more by this particular author. The series contains 22 books and are written by various authors.
I have never read anything from Kathryn LeBlanc before, OMG this was fantastic!! Bethany Hamilton is eighteen years old, and raising her two sisters; Franny ten and Emma a baby. Marriage prospects are not high in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Bethany places an ad in the paper for a mail order husband. Thomas a banker from Boston answers her letter, and arrives to open a bank in Sioux Falls. How does Thomas feel when he finds out he will have to raise Bethany's sisters if he wants to marry her???? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait to read more from Kathryn LeBlanc.
Life has been hard since Bethany’s mother died and her father abandoned her and her two young sisters. Up until now, she has concealed the truth of their circumstances from the town. Now, in danger of homelessness, Bethany places an ad for a husband and a young banker responds. Will he be her salvation or her downfall?
This is a sweet romance with lovable characters. I enjoyed the storyline of this clean, western romance. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Rough in the Dakotas back then. One of the things I liked, in this, is that even evil, or maybe a better term is... slimy? Certainly opportunistic, and questionable legally and morally, character(s) can have redeeming qualities. This is (mostly) true in real life. Anyhow, was fun to read. Occasionally had a bit of an issue with rising blood pressure. (OK not really. Just got into the story.) Check it out! A sample won't get you to the more 'exciting' areas, I guess one could say, but you would get a good feel for it overall.
A delightful book that is a quick read. Oh, the hardships these early settlers went through! Bethany, a young woman on her own with two sisters to care for is having a very difficult time. She places an ad for a husband, and as she gets some answers, she becomes the talk of the town. Thomas sounds too good to be true, but how can you tell through letters? Will he arrive as promised? I loved these characters, the plot and the setting. Very enjoyable! I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however, I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
A Banker for Bethany was a pleasure to read. Bethany is trying to raise her sisters, after the death of her Mother and her Fathers disappearance. It’s a huge task to handle, plus the farm duties. She will never become the teacher, she always wanted to be. What can she do now. Everyone wants her to marry, but the one man who keeps coming around, scares her. She decides that her life would be better with a mail order husband, but will he get there in time. Thomas wants more out of life and advance in position at the bank. When he starts to correspond with Bethany, he feels this is his chance. Let’s take a journey from Boston to Sioux City to see what happens. Delightful!
I enjoyed this heartwarming historical fiction. I particularly enjoy the love that blossomed between Bethany and Thomas and the strength that Bethany showed in supporting her sisters and honoring her parents. The story opened my eyes to the challenges of the early settlers in North America. We owe them so much!
I read this book as part of an advance reader team and am providing my honest opinion.
Struggling to raise her two sisters after the death of their mother and the disappearance of their father, Bethany applied for a mail- order husband as a last resort. Ready for a change and a challenge, Thomas answered her ad, decided to move to Sioux Falls and open a branch of the bank where he was currently employed. But both held secrets, not knowing if the reveal would allay the proposed marriage or would time itself lay fear to rest and the union proceed.
Bethany Hamilton finds herself running the house and taking care of her two younger sisters when her mother passes and her dad leaves town. She decides that she needs to do something with her future so she puts an advertisement out for a mail order husband. Thomas Rose is a banker who moves to the west to start up a new bank and marry Bethany. This was a clean historical read about finding love during hardship.
This is a fun tale of three young ladies that recently lost both parents. They are having making ends meet so Bethany writes for a groom. She is tormented by a brute of a man that wants her for his own and to send her sisters to an orphanage. Thomas is their hero. You Will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.
Bethany sends off an advert for a mail-order groom, leaving out that she is raising her two sisters after their papa left town and their mama died. Thomas, a young bank employee, answers and has a bit of an adventure, both on his way to her and then on the way to the preacher.
The main characters were charming, and the plot was entertaining.
A Banker for Bethany is a quick, sweet romance. You will find yourself cringing and rooting for Bethany as she finds her banker. If only we could all find someone like Thomas!
I loved this book. This was such a fast read with a HEA with a mail-order groom. I loved how they worked together to accomplish goals and become a family.
Bethany had not only herself to support but also her two younger sisters following the abandonment by their father. The author lets us into how hard it was for her to stretch their remaining money and keep the townspeople from knowing the real situation. Add in a swarmy “gentleman” caller and Bethany really has her back to the wall. Thomas seizes the opportunity of her ad for a husband with opening a bank in Sioux Falls. The result of all this is an entertaining story and one that I enjoyed.
