Masterworks starts with a woman working late writing a story. A Batman story.

Every tiny hint of a clue gets tossed into the blender of his mind, to whir and frappe and marinate until finally a glorious soup of knowledge comes pouring out and he has his prey.

Then Batman appears in the window and scares Miss Staines. He found her because she left ink at the crime scene at the Gotham Central Library.

She is writing a story about the missing manuscripts for the Gothamite. She has some theories on the perp. He tells her not to contaminate the crime scene again.

Talking it over with Robin, several valuable manuscripts have been taken from several libraries. They head to a break-in at the Dutton Gallery. Once there they are attacked by the squad of library guards. They fight. After the fight he finds Miss Staines nearby. Taking notes.

She bribed the guards to giving her access to the crime scene.

Thoughts pirouetted through his mind like tiny little synaptic ballerinas.

That was very interesting and fun. You can tell they had fun writing it.

There is a vital destruction of a device and it’s not quite clear what the device is (though likely a computer), but it is still a fun ride.

I’d love to see this villain again!
