About the author

Scott Peterson got his start in comics as an editor on the Batman line of comics, working with the legendary Dennis O’Neil. He edited DC’s flagship title, Detective Comics, and launched the first of the the Adventures sub-genre of comics, The Batman Adventures. He later went on to edit for WildStorm, where he oversaw such titles as WildCats, Midnighter, A God Somewhere and North 40, as well as Scooby-Doo and Looney Tunes. As a writer, he has been published by Disney, Scholastic, Golden Books, HarperCollins, and DC Comics, including a four-year run as the regular writer of The Gotham Adventures. He is the author of Batman: Kings of Fear with art legendary artist Kelley Jones, and the original graphic novel Truckus Maximus.

Second Timers starts with Batman catching Catwoman in a robbery. This is ‘black and white’ and an older costume for both of them.

Love the Klimt painting in the background!

Next page is a modern day version of the same with updated costumes for both of them.

Listen, it isn’t what you think this time.

Batman doesn’t listen so she handcuffs him and goes to open the safe. Which has a bomb inside. She yells ‘It’s a trap!’ And runs away but Batman investigates. She pushes him out of the way when the bomb explodes.

Next, Commissioner Gordon and Batman are in Selina’s hospital room. She’s not waking up. Gordon asks if he wants to talk.

Yes. She’s a criminal. I put criminals in jail.

Ms. Maven, Selena’s personal assistant comes into the hospital room. Seeing Batman she suspects he’s the reason Selina’s hurt. She reads him the riot act.

Why don’t you slink on back to whatever cave you crawled out of!

Later Batman calls Batgirl to see if she found out anything. The owner of the house where the bomb went off seems innocent. No priors or connection to Catwoman. Besides, a lot of his house was destroyed. No motive.

According to Detective Montoya there’s been a rash of burglaries but the victims aren’t reporting them to the police.

Batman flashes back to when Catwoman dropped the cat statue she was stealing to help him out in a fight.

Talking to someone who didn’t report a crime Batman finds out that he boasted about owning two Picasso’s at the Iceberg Lounge. Batgirl finds this pattern fits in with most of them.

Batman and Batgirl talk to the Penguin.

This book has a lot of fun with what’s going on in the background of these scenes.

Later Nightwing expresses that maybe Catwoman’s turning over a new leaf. Batman thinks she’s still a thief.

Anyway, why are you so much tougher on her than you are on, say, Two-Face?

Batman visits Selina in the hospital.

Very nicely done. If you’re a fan of weird romances this should hit home.

An emotional Batman and Catwoman tale is perfect for the 50th issue.
