Who knew I’d become an author? Not me. But when the opportunity knocked, I answered the door and welcomed it in. I approach life with as much positivity as I can—celebrating the hits and laughing at the misses. Nothing worthwhile is easy, and that includes everything in my life. But I have much to smile about—my lovely mother, a beautiful daughter, two precious granddaughters, my adorable dogs, and my sweet husband of over thirty years. He has always supported me—including uprooting to move to the other side of Charlotte, N.C. for a life change, just when we thought we were settled.
If settled means not going after my dreams, then I never want to be settled. I give my all to things I enjoy—and that includes writing. In 2021, I hit the USA Today Bestselling Author list, and recently, two of my books were named RONE Finalists!
I love to express myself to the point that my daughter avoids going to the movies with me because I’m that woman in the row in front of you who gleefully munches her popcorn and laughs at every hilarious scene. Loudly. Besides my family, I love chocolate, popcorn, laughter, and animals. I love animals so much that I frequently sprinkle them in my stories as secondary characters. They usually steal the show! British and American history have always interested me, so writing historical romances set in the U.K. and the US is where my passion is.
When I was barely three years old, my parents divorced, and my mom moved my sister and me from New York to South Carolina to live near her parents. Juggling a full-time job and full-time school, my mother became my first genuine hero—she never waved the white flag when things were tough. And things quickly got tough. My grandmother, who helped care for my sister and me while my mother worked, became ill with cancer, and didn’t survive the surgery, dying before I was seven. Losing Grandma devastated me. She read to me and taught me to read before I started first grade. I credit her for inspiring my love of reading, and I credit my mother for encouraging me to turn my ideas into stories.
When I was ten, my neighbor gave me her book club copy of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind and it remains one of my favorite books. But it was Kathleen Woodiwiss’ Shanna and Ashes in the Wind, that hooked me on historical romance and sparked my dream of becoming a published author.
While I primarily write Regency Romance, I enjoy almost any period in American and British history.

4.5 Stars Damon Devereaux, the Sixth Duke of Danforth, doesn’t want a wife. He needs a governess; they keep quitting. Grayson’s energetic, seven-year-old twins need someone with stamina a woman who can provide a firm hand, stability, and guidance. Miss Lydia Hammond equates marriage with the loss of her freedom. Lydia accepts a position as companion to a dowager duchess but when four dowager duchesses plan to live together Lydia takes the post of governess for the Duke of Danforth and his children. A delightful romance with strong characters who are mostly very likeable. I loved both Damon & Lydia, sparks fly between them from their first meeting when they literally collided. The chemistry between them just gets hotter & hotter. Michael & Mandy are a delight, very mischievous but also very loving & they soon fall under Lydia’s spell, throw in a puppy & I was one happy reader & devoured this romance in a sitting. Things don’t go smoothly for Damon & Lydia as a villain is out to cause trouble. My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I loved this book from the beginning to the end. What wasn't to like? We have a single father of twins whom he adores and they adore him. He's a duke that acts like everybody else; nobody is above him or beneath him. He never married again after his wife died, although he did keep mistresses, which is a factor in this story. He's close to his family and will do most anything to help somebody.
Damon (love the name) knows his children need a mother. They're so mischievous and keep running off all the governesses. They're pranksters, something he does find amusing at times, even if he does try to hide it from his kids. He's involved with them, which is unusual for a guy of his social status. He loved them and wanted the best for them, but he needed another governess who was made of stronger stuff.
Lydia is a companion for one of the Golden Duchesses, which is comprised of four friends who've been best friends for many years and all married dukes, who have passed away. The four of them had made a pact years ago that they would live together if their husbands died before they did. Well, they saw the pact through and that left Lydia without that job. But the duchesses had another lined up for her as the governess for the Duke of Danforth's children.
Lydia is up to the task of teaching the kids, but what she wasn't counting on was falling in love with Damon. Nothing prepared her for that. He's handsome, smart, easy to get along with, approachable...yeah, he's not your every day kind of duke. He was just as attracted to her, but wasn't going to make her his mistress, as if she would ever do that anyway. Neither of them wanted to marry no matter who was putting the heat on them. They valued their independence, you know.
This was a feel good read with great characters, a sweet puppy, some adventure, not a lot of steam, has some laugh out loud moments, and was just an all-around enjoyable book.
*Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone novel.

The Trouble with Her Duke. My Fellow Readers I don’t which I enjoyed more reading. Either it was the number of shenanigans the twins Mandy and Michael found themselves caught in or Naomi Withers in her devious methods. Let’s start off with my thoughts about the book. I loved it! Enough said. The detailed writing to the storyline was exceptionally written. I followed the story from beginning to end without confusion to the characters mission and or goals to the plot’s outcome. Through the characters dialogues actions and emotions the descriptions to these is clear for the readers imagination to visualize while reading. I loved the that the writer kept the wording simple and focused on the main characters outcome. Adding the different characters to the story was great I thought. Mainly because Damon and Lydia clearly needed that comfort after just a day with the kids and family members. Having the twins around truly worked on both Lydia and Damon’s patience. On a number of occasions I giggled and laughed aloud to bull frogs being misplaced and how quickly the twins can spin a lie when their together. I really enjoyed the humor in the story. The romance that takes place between Damon and Lydia is innocent and very sweet. The entertainment I found comes from their friends and other characters who are champions of the two and people with nefarious reasons. This is a page turner filled with live, laugh and love. I enjoyed it and I think you will too. I give this book two snaps and a, Mandy and Michael don’t give Rosie water from the Thames! Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. #TheTroubleWithHerDuke #AnnaSt.Claire #SassyRomances #Goodreads #Bookbub
The Trouble with Her Duke is a delightful historical romance that features a spirited heroine and a brooding hero who find love in unexpected circumstances. Lydia Hammond is a governess who values her independence and has no desire to marry. Damon Devereaux is a widowed duke who needs someone to take care of his mischievous twins. When Lydia becomes the new governess for the children, she soon captures the attention and admiration of Damon, who has sworn off love after losing his first wife. But their budding romance is threatened by a scheming ex-mistress who wants to ruin their happiness. Will Lydia and Damon overcome the obstacles and find their happily ever after?
The characters are well-developed and likable, with strong chemistry and banter. Lydia is a smart and independent woman who stands up for herself and her beliefs. Damon is a caring and protective man who learns to open his heart again. The twins are adorable and hilarious, adding humor and warmth to the story. The plot is well-paced some suspense and drama along the way and the romance is sweet and passionate.
This is a perfect book for lovers of historical romance who enjoy stories with strong heroines, brooding heroes, and adorable children. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance with a happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m sorry but this should’ve been an easy 4 star for me but this made me question my life choices that brought me to reading this book. Romance and chemistry? Literally nothing except he likes her eyes and she’s not scared of frogs. The writing? Repetitive. If I had to read “puffed up chest” one more time I was gonna throw my kindle. The lack of respect men had for women in this story baffled me. The hero not caring about the other power imbalance of kissing an employee gave me the ick. Just a big ick.
The Trouble with her Duke is a lighthearted enjoyable read. Anna St Clair has given readers a book that is well-written, filled it with characters that come to life and you find yourself drawn into their story, passion, laugh out loud situations, energetic twins, strong family relationship, with an ex mistress who tries to ruin their relationship.

This story has several factors that always draw me into a story- widowers, children, and governesses. The heroine is trying to avoid any marriage matches her brothers might want for her so she first is a companion to a duchess and then she is referred to a duke to be a governess. The hero isn’t like most fathers of the ton as he takes an avid interest in his twins. Neither one really want so marry, but love does come to them. I enjoyed the children’s antics. I received an ARC for an honest review.
For the love of bullfrogs, a clever pup & endearingly astute twins! A fun, heart warming and sweet, class divide, romance that connects our, so easy to love, leads on equal footing from the first. Blossoming a romance, threatened by a vindictive dose of catty scheming - ripe for declawing - as Damon, widowed father of two delightful imps and, newly appointed governess, Lydia, war with their mounting feelings for each other thanks to the meddling of a quartet of hilarious golden duchesses. THE TROUBLE WITH HER DUKE has great pace and steadily hooks you in. Where the closeknit bonds and ties of family, that wraps up this cute romance and remains at its core, becomes so easy to get drawn and lost in. The characters radiate with this palpable closeness that rings with relatability as they shine as individuals and emotionally pull you in with their teasing guidance, mischievous playfulness, tenderhearted charm and subtle wit. This is definitely one of my new favourite tales by St Claire. I just loved the way it flowed, the slow burn pace that fluidly revealed, made me smile and entwined me into their simmering rich chemistry as their attraction engagingly built and thrummed with a quiet, tummy swooning tension from first collison. That brings together two, so perfectly matched, in Damon, our dreamy hero, devoted adoring father in all his protective, witty, charismatic and effortlessly enticing yumminess. And, our original, beautiful-but-doesn't-know-it, heroine, Lydia, who is not only strong, knows what she wants and independent but loving, clever and unwilling to play the damsel in distress or sacrificial lamb for anybody, no matter how vulnerable she is. A fun-filled, enjoyably entangling romance, I just loved escaping into!

The Trouble with Her Duke by Anna St. Claire The Wayward Dukes Series Damon Devereaux, the sixth Duke of Danforth, has lost another governess. That makes six in two years. Two in six months. He loved his twins, Michael and Amanda, but they loved their pranks. Unfortunately, the governesses did not. The list was getting short on choices for governesses. What would he do? Miss Lydia Hammond enjoyed being a companion to the Duchess of Featherly. Especially when her three friends joined her, the Golden Duchesses, so when she was told she wouldn’t be needed anymore, but they had another position for her as a governess… She chose to take the position. Either that or lose her independence and marry. I loved this story. The children and dog are adorable, and I also liked the other characters. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
This was a sweet romance, which I really enjoyed. The story was beautifully written, drawing you in as you read about the various characters. Right from the beginning, I loved the main characters; Damon, for being the attentive father and Lydia's strong character. This story left me feeling happy as I read it. I was also grinning at times, while reading about the twins and what little pranks they would pull. I was happy to receive an advanced copy for my honest review.
This is a sweet historical romance. Damon is a duke, a widower and father of seven year old twins. They are known for terrorizing governesses. Lydia is an independent young lady who despite being wealthy has decided to work instead of getting married. It is a delightful and easy to read story with a great plot. The characters are I fun and interesting including the children and the dog. Proximity leads to Damon and Lydia falling in love and a wonderful family being formed.
A very sweet book about an independent woman who seems to have four fairy godmothers (the Golden Duchesses) looking out for her. They put her in the right situation at the right time for everything she never knew she wanted.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
When Damon Devereaux, the sixth Duke of Danforth a widower with two rambunctious 7-year-old twins, who have chased off every governess they have ever had with their antics, his aunt recommends Lydia Hammond, a companion who is from a wealthy merchant family.
Lydia wants to make her own way in the world and not marry someone her family wants her to. This is a fun, entertaining read with lots of family interactions and some action with a vindictive ex-girlfriend.
I loved the interaction between Damon, Lydia and the children.
I was smiling after a few pages in and laughing by the next chapter. This love story has several great elements in it - lovable and impish children, a smart loyal dog, family banters and the Golden Duchesses (who seem like TV's Golden Girls) and a dreadful villainess to thwart, all contributing to the inevitable love between Damon and Lydia. Amazing read!
I received an ARC of this books and leaving my review voluntarily.
I totally enjoyed this book even though I generally dislike the trope of the widower with horrible children who falls for the sassy governess. This was NOT that book! Except for his alluded to off page dalliances, Damon was really too good to be true. He was handsome, charming and kind. He loved his children and he also happened to be a Duke! Looking back at the title of the book, I'm not exactly sure what "trouble" was being referred to. The only thing involving "trouble" was the condition of poor Lydia's heart. And apparently my brain also, because I almost forgot to mention the fact that Lydia's actual life was in danger! Besides the troublesome duke, there were some other standouts. The "Golden Duchesses" were obviously a tribute to the "Golden Girls." It was really cute when "Blanche" wanted the duke to sit next to her. I hope these duchesses get more match making opportunities in the future. Or, at a minimum, give "Blanche" opportunities to assign ridiculous tasks to the young footmen working in the townhouse. The other three duchesses could then attempt to intervene. Lydia the heroine was refreshing in the sense that she was smart enough to know a good thing when she saw it. No third act break up here! The kids were not annoying and they had a nice puppy. This story was squeaky-clean and would be great for younger readers. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
I have never read a book by Anna that I didn’t like and this one I love. It has a great balance between a Duke, Governess and two upstart twins. With a great story line, the twins have scared off a number of governesses. Their father Damon is not sure where to look for another leaving finding and hiring some up to his housekeeper. I love the way Damon and Lydia meet and no I am not going to spoil it. The twins, Michael and Mandy are pranksters, lively seven-year-olds who act out at their governesses for a reason. Add to this mix a sweet, smart puppy and a scorned mistress and let the games began. The interaction between both Damon and Lydia is perfect. Lydia has a secret that will help with the children. This book has just the right amount of understanding, love, passion and evil. I laughed out loud more than once. This is a quick read; I couldn't put it down and finished in one sitting. Don’t miss this one, it will leave you with a smile and warm heart...I received an ARC from the author, and I want to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. Can’t wait for the next book.

Damon Deveraux, Sixth Duke of Danforth, is a widower and father to a set of precocious twins who have caused governesses to resign with frustrating regularity. He needs a new governess. Miss Lydia Hammond is companion to one of the Golden Duchesses. The ladies have decided it’s time to honor their pact and all move in together. Lydia needs a new job. The Duchesses recommend her to be Damon’s new governess. This is an absolutely delightful story. The characters are lovable. Lydia is beautiful, intelligent, and independent. She comes with her own brand of experience with mischievous children. It will take more than a frog to scare her off. She soon has Michael and Mandy wrapped around her finger. Damon is a good father, and is impressed with Lydia. He is quite taken with Lydia, and she with him. There’s great chemistry between them. Things are good until the villain, who is Damon’s jealous and insane ex-mistress, causes trouble. Will she succeed, or will the duke and the governess find a happy future? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Having been companion to the dowager Duchess and enjoyed her role, Lydia is upset when her role is no longer required. But also intrigued by the new opportunity her employer has put before her - governess to the Dukes young twins. Having bumped into the Duke days ago, she can't quite forget how gorgeous he is.
Damon lost his wife in childbirth, but he adores he's twins, except that they're getting rid of governess at an alarming rate, and he doesn't know why. In returning home from a family Christmas he discovers the new governess is a young lady he bumped into days before leaving. But he's concerned about the attraction he felt for her and wonders how he'll manage with her in the house.
Loved Damon and Lydia's story Damon is widowed with two tearaway children who he loves dearly, but he needs a governess who will last long enough to teach them something and care for them without running for the hills when their tricks and pranks terrorise all his previous governesses. Lydia accepts the offer of employment to escape her father’s attempts to marry her off. Soon Lydia begins to care for her charges and thei father, but can he overcome his reluctantance to marry again or will a former paramour drive them apart.
Can one's fears keep you from the happiness you could have? Damon Devereaux, the Sixth Duke of Danforth, thinks he only needs a governess for his twins, not a wife. Miss Lydia Hammond thinks marriage could mean death in childbirth or a least the loss of her independence. Could both of these people be wrong? You will need to read this story to find that answer and more.
An entertaining story to read, great characters and nicely paced towards the end. I enjoyed the friendship that developed first for Damon and Lydia. The twins throw in some great energy and fun. Overall, a wonderful journey to love.
Absolutely wild to write a book that is under 200 pages and have 60% of it take place before the main couple interact (more then a chance two sentence greeting ah the beginning).
