Mr. Message: Can sexting be better than the real thing? Mr. Message has ideas on that…

Rate this book
I'm a hardworking and unrewarded estate agent in London. My evenings? Netflix. My relationship status? You're kidding, right? Divorced. Messily. With a hefty therapist bill. Oh, I'm Jen by the way. And bills aren't my only problem.

The divorce left me with crippling self-doubt. So romance is limited to lusting over fictional characters, glass of wine in hand, rather than dating. This takes a twist when I move to Instagram and start talking to … er, well, I call him Mr. Message.

The mysterious Mr. Message can relate to my problems. He's also a master of guided scenes, even in public, that intoxicate me. Like you haven't thought about it. But it all comes with a proviso. A 'no feelings' agreement.

Until he invites me to a concert. And a single night of sex. But maybe I do have feelings. And maybe this is the last thing I need. Especially if he does too.

Should I go?

A.R. Willows is a serious overthinker, perpetual story tweaker and
character creator.

When the creative part of A.R.’s mind is resting, two bothersome
cats receive tummy rubs or tail twiddles. But all they really want is to
be left alone to hack the crap out of A.R.’s new sofa that isn’t as
comfortable as it was in the showroom.

The first book A.R. read was a big maroon coloured one. With a
story about a Raven that kept knocking and a pendulum that kept
swinging. Being at the early age of understanding where nightmares
are very real and parents lie, Edgar Allan Poe was an influence. What
part that had in A.R.’s life so far is unknown, yet the persistent need
to add in twists with emotional suffering resides in a darkened recess
that keeps knocking, knocking on A.R.’s mental door.

With that being said, A.R. Willows loves nothing more than to
give a reader a satisfying experience. A good slap of importance is
always the primary focus when producing a spicy story with a relatable
narrative we can all nod along to.

More books are planned for the Mr. Message series with book two
already underway as well as individual stories of all things naughty
and niche.

Head over to the online world where A.R. spends an unhealthy
amount of time chatting with those who adore kindness.

This book was so much fun to dive into! The plot of the story was an interesting concept that has the reader sitting on the edge of their seat wondering if our main characters will take their online chemistry to another level.

Both of the characters have their own complexities which help the story and their eventual relationship grow into something that the reader will absolutely love. A.R. does a fantastic job at taking this concept and growing it into a story and leaving it on a cliffhanger that I was shocked with and in desperate need of more. The spice in this book was written really well and there were definitely some scorching moments between our two main characters.

I cannot wait for A.R. to give us more of these characters and this story because there is so much more at stake towards the end that my mind is racing with what will happen to our beloved characters!

4.5 stars!

Thank you A.R. and team for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

As much as I would have loved to finish this book, reading the ARC version was difficult due to formatting issues and missing pieces and duplicate sections. From the 20% I read it has potential and although I'm curious to see how their humorous banter continued, I'm assuming the HEA will eventually come about between her and Mr. Message and his dog. And maybe even Gregg finds his, although what I read that pertained to him made me wonder what kind of kinkery (yes I know that's not a word) he was into when at one point he had a woman tied to a chair gagging...

Anyways, if you're looking for a story of a recently divorced woman who is extremely fragile (emotionally and mentally) who has a cute DM messaging friendship (which I assume evolves) then check this book out.

I can't comment as to the spice because the one self gratification scene was interrupted and for me, didn't give tingles but again, the FMC was just starting to explore things after a miserable emotionally and mentally abusive marriage that happened before the book started.

The concept behind Mr. Message is super interesting - a romance novel centered around the experience of guided erotic writing? An anonymous paramour who is skilled and eager to tease out all of your wildest fantasies via text? That’s a fresh concept. But the wildest fantasies in question are from Jen, a recently divorced woman in her mid-thirties who is still grappling with a lot of trauma from her ex. We get to watch Jen start to find her voice on screen and in real life as she learns to speak up for herself and her desires with the encouragement of a mysterious online friend she only knows as Mr. Message. And while I was cheering for Jen along the way, this one just wasn’t for me.

Perhaps the character building was a bit too realistic. The MMC snores. He snores. The Male Main Character. In a romance novel. Snores. It's neither a plot device or a punch line. And Jen is so neurotic it goes beyond quirky. If I were at a party and were approached by Jen I would actively try to get away from her as quickly as it would be polite to do so. I would feel bad about it because it's clear she is incredibly lonely, but Nancy the car is always there to give her the answers she demands. Out loud. From her car. Like Nancy’s a Transformer communicating through radio stations. So at least she can talk it over with Nancy after the fact and I will have escaped.

This book is so very British. I never knew that was a problem for me. It's never been a problem for me. It became a problem for me. The slang was a lot and took me out of the story often, but as someone who has only spent about 4 days in the UK ever in her life, I’m willing to say there’s a possibility that that’s actually how people talk there. But more so than that I found the weird juxtaposition between being super buttoned up about bedroom activities and completely open with toilet humor baffling. There is so much literal toilet humor (which admittedly is not my thing anyway) in what is supposed to be a romance novel. A romance novel where the characters are so straight laced that, when the Big Moment finally happens Mr. Message looks our heroine square in the eyes and tells her that she feels nice. Nice. Her velvet handshake feels nice. I would have gotten up and left. I might not have even stopped to grab my clothes. He can keep them. I hope he finds them to be nice.

While Mr. Message was not for me, I do still believe it to be a well thought out book and that fans of more Bridget Jones’s Diary style humor will love it. Jen trying to navigate her way through a certain type of specialty shop is certain to make even the most buttoned up among us crack a smirk or two.

Thank you so much to the author for the ARC.

Jen is newly divorced and trying to find her place in her new reality. She spends her days being underappreciated at her job, and her nights binge watching netflix, gorging on wine and microwave dinners. She's incredibly relatable and I kept finding myself thinking "girll... same."

Through a chance interaction on IG, she finds herself chatting with a quirky, charming man who makes her laugh and forget her troubles. The more they text, the more they begin to develop a fun, casual friendship... and a little sexy something extra. Sparks fly and so do the deliciously dirty text exchanges as the two become more and more intertwined in each other's day to day. Who is this sexy mystery man? Well, he's Mr. Message, of course, and he is going to awaken things in Jen she never even knew existed.

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, and I am absolutely here for it. This is a perfect example of erotica being so much more than just spice. Mr. Message blends erotica and romance together seamlessly, giving us all the sexy, spicy scenes we crave, while giving us an engaging storyline we can become invested in. Jen is a fab MC and had me rooting for her from the beginning. And Mr. Message is SEXY SEXY SEXY. Who doesn't love a guy who can make you laugh and make you hot at the same time?

Not only is this an excellent read with a compelling story and likeable characters, but it seriously brings the heat! Not to mention the absolutely sinfully delicious little bonuses the author includes in the back of the book, AND on the website. But I won't spoil those for you, because they are too hot and too good! Let's just say, it really brings Mr. Message to Life. This book is truly an experience from beginning to end and I've never read anything like it. I can't wait to read book two and see what A.R. Willows has in store. Definitely an author to watch in the genre. FIVE BIG SEXY STARS for Mr. Message!

This story is an EXPERIENCE! It is so unique from anything I’ve read and I read it almost entirely in one sitting. What happens when a friendly DM conversation turns into something altogether different? Some sexy messages between friends that turns into so much more? Yes please! I loved it all!
Jen is single, on the other side of a not-so-nice divorce, and lacking a bit of *something* in her life. It almost feels like she may be a little stuck in the grind of it all. Work, home, friends, repeat. Possibly with a side of anxiety and not feeling as confident about herself as she should.
Along comes Mr. Message. They have great chat, friendly banter until he proposes something a little… bit… more…. Sexy. And, boy does he have a way with words (pun totally intended). The more I read, the more I started to think of as a virtual friends with benefits situation.
The longer their daily “chat” continue, the more confident Jen becomes in her own skin. And, Mr. Message continues to open up to Jen about himself which, not only brings to light how much more they have in common but also, how much more comfortable they become with each other.
The only problem: they both agreed to a “no feelings” rule.
I will leave it at that because you will definitely want to read this to see where Jen and Mr. Message take their relationship 😏
I also want to say thank you so much to A.R. Willows for sending along a copy of their book baby!

💗Obviously, I loved their steamy convos (You are not ready for Mr. Message 🥵 and his brand of sexting) but, I also loved their banter 😆

I really liked this book ❤️❤️❤️

This is a story about Jen, a recently divorced real estate agent struggling with all aspects of her life, especially her romantic life or lack thereof. Whilst working on social media for a current work project, a comment is posted on one of her posts. This starts a very intense online relationship on instagram with a beautiful man, Jen nicknames Mr. Message.

I love Jen's character. Through her relationship with Mr Message, we see Jen with crippling self-doubt with little to no self-confidence to slowly becoming more like her old true self. I also really love her friendship with Gregg. He is the perfect friend for Jen. He boosts her up but also is careful with her after what she has been through.

Mr. Message, I love him. He is so kind and truly thoughtful. He accepted Jen for who she is, and I loved reading the connection they shared from the start. Their banter and chemistry were written so well. I can't wait to find out what happens in book 2, I feel like book 1 is the build-up to the events that will take place in book 2.

I hope it's also possible to see Mr Message's POV in the next book because it would be interesting to read his thought process...

The last 20% of this book was so intense.... I can't wait to see what the future holds for these characters.

Thank you to A.R. and Unalive Promotions for giving me the opportunity to ARC read. I really appreciate it! All opinions are my own 😊

Picture this. As many people do, you have an Instagram account and post some photos. Your most recent post had some likes and a comment––no big deal. Maybe it was a slow day because I've had many of those. You engage with a commenter, but it somehow leads to more conversations. The commenter and you seem to have much in common; he comes across as funny, kind, and intelligent. I could easily see this happening

Mr. Message, for the most part, is a story told by a text exchange between two people who have met through Instagram, no less. The story is a unique way of telling a traditional love story through text words as the main element and basis in relationship building. As a reader, it was as if I sometimes was sneaking peeks at someone's phone as I "scrolled" through their story. But I had to remind myself these are not love letters from the Victorian days. They are explicit interactions between two people who are erotically teasing each other. Maybe they did that back then, too.

Author AR Willows' witty writing of Mr. Message shows the text exchanges and inner dialogue the main character, Jen, has. Mr. Message is a slow burn, but when it gets hot—watch out. Even though I was reading text exchanges, I still felt the plot reach its peak and the build-up of heat.

Although I enjoyed the interactive features Mr. Message incorporated, I was somewhat surprised at the end.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Mr. Message is unlike any erotic romance you've read before!

AR. Willows takes you on a sexual awakening of sorts with a plethora of unique experiences to be had along the way.

The FMC in Mr. Message, Jenn, is a newly divorced woman who is now free of her toxic ex-husband, but with this new path comes a woman riddled with self-doubt and an undervalued sense of self-worth.

She's in need of someone to show her she's much more than just Netflix and wine, and to help her build the confidence that's been slowly shredded over the years in her previous relationship.

Mr. Message is a unique experience all on his own, but when you put these two together, the heat and sparks are unimaginable!

Have you checked out the Mr. Message website??? You don't want to miss it!

A.R. Willows is a new author who I feel is coming into the Erotic Romance genre as a force to be reckoned with.

Their writing style has you living in the moment, as any good author should, but A.R. takes it to a whole new level with mind blowing twists and panty melting turns.

It's easy to find a little bit of Jen in us all and I'm looking forward to seeing more of these two in book two!

Mr. Message by A.R. Willows is a fun adult love story with an explicit sexual awakening mixed with humor and suspense. Two protagonists -- one male and one female, both likeable relationship refugees -- explore what they like via social media direct messages, when spending time together online under the condition that there will be no feelings allowed, turns belated love epiphany. With its believable characters' romantic connection, a solid balance between the romance and the erotica, and the red herrings, Mr. Message kept me turning pages until the book came to a perfect ending for this story's back to front quirky couple.

Grounded in reality, the story addresses self-deprecation, risk, sexual healing, and the search for happiness. Outside the direct messages, the story is set in London with quirky scenes in traffic, on the job with a realtor, and inside the protagonists' apartments. If you’re a hopeless romantic, who loves erotic reads, you'll love this character driven, entertaining, smokin' hot adult book!

OMG this book is unlike anything I’ve ever read before. This takes messaging to a whole new level. I found myself completely obsessed with this book and most in Jen’s shoes as I not so patiently waited for Mr. Message to send us a note. This book had me engaged the entire time. Definitely can’t wait for the next book since I need to know what is happening next for sure!! I was not ready for it to end and can not believe it ended the way it did! Let’s just say, the build up this book gives is unlike anything you’ve ever read before, and it’s soooooooo worth it. Love everything about this book and definitely hooked!

This was a great book. Thought provoking and very steamy.
This was about recent divorcee Jen who sparks to an online relationship with Mr Message.
Definitely steamy and kind of romantic especially at the end. It was well done but I did find it a bit long. The story was full and the sexting was well done. It showed a different was to get to know someone.
Well written, I would give it 4 and a half stars as there were some parts I found a little too monotonous but certainly worth the read.
Great story and looking forward to more.

This was spicy and cute and I am in love. Jen and Mr. Message’s text were funny and quirky and everything you’d expect with flirting via text. Especially with grammar errors and just spiraling from there. A whole vibe and I was giggling and blushing my way through it all. 😊 It was also nice seeing Jen gain confidence in herself post divorce and having fun. She was a whole vibe - binge watching Netflix and such. I just loved their whole dynamic and how patient and respectful he is with Jen. But the ending tho, ugh my heart 🥹🥰 love love love this book 🥰

Realistic, hot, fun read. Jen is divorced and left with crippling self-doubt so she spends her nights drinking beer wine and lusting after fictional characters. That is until she starts chatting with Mr. Message. This book is spicy! I enjoy that it leans on the realistic side and makes characters more relatable. I couldn't put it down.
Thank you to the author A.R. Willows for trusting me with an ARC. This review was voluntary and honest.

This was SPICY.

What happens when a divorce ruins your self confidence to the point that you bury yourself in work and Netflix? Jenn was so down on herself it was bad. One day she posts some photos on Instagram and BOOM a random message pops up. She starts talking to this person thinking it is harmless. They are so compatable and they are having great convrsation. It starts heating up and it becomes WOW. This was a great read.

I read this beauty in one day. I just couldn’t stop!
I knew it was going to be 🔥 and 🌶️ but before all that we first get to know Jen and Mr Message, which I absolutely loved! Their banter was great and I loved to see the change in Jen. Their chemistry was off the charts. Can’t wait for book 2!

✨Book Review ✨

Mr. Message by @arwillows

5⭐ Overall
4🌶️ Spice

This was one of the most unique books I have ever read. This was told almost entirely through a relationship built on messaging. It was so different, but it was fun to watch the characters build their connection while they also grew as individuals. Let me tell you though, while they connected and got to know each other through these messages they also got VERY spicy!!! One of my favorite things about this book was that the FMC is a grown ass woman. This was still a coming of age story of sorts since the FMC is getting out of a bad marriage, but instead of a child becoming a woman this is a woman finding her confidence and experiencing a sexual awakening. This story sucked me in and I can't wait for book 2!
