Peabody #3

Treasure in the Yukon

Rate this book
Scruggs unsuccessfully tries to bow out when his friend Jack Derwood requests his company on a search expedition for lost gold in the Yukon. Soon the boys find themselves rolling along the scenic highways of Alaska in an open Jeep and in the company of Jack's uncle and some other "interesting" characters.

But early on, trouble surfaces and starts to cast a long shadow over their prospects. Scrambled telegrams, smoking maps, homemade helium balloons, and a machine named OSCAR are just a few of the nuggets that propel this nonstop adventure.

I'm giving this four stars, because it's really not as bad of a book as people say it is! I mean, it's not as amazing as Derwood, Inc, but it's still enjoyable!

The Characters:
Jack - I liked him, but didn't love him as I did in Derwood. He still had his fun ways though! ;)
Scruggs - since this is the third book of the series, it mentioned Scruggs having an adventure in the previous book (I haven't read it!). Oh well. I really like him and I'm so glad he and Jack are friends! Scruggs and his scientific ways are so funny! :D
Uncle Justin - he's a nice Uncle!
Dr. Nelson - he's nice too. Haha!
The Swede - I had my mixed feelings for him. I liked him and I didn't, I liked him and I didn't. Know what I mean?

The Story-line:
I liked it!! Mysteries are fun to read! The gold part of things was sort of confusing - especially Uncle Justin's precious OSCAR, but it was fine. ;)

All-in-all:
Really liked it!! I only read it again because it matched a task for a reading challenge I'm doing, so yeah. ;)
I still really want to read the other books in this series, even though they may not be as good. I don't think anything can beat "Derwood, Inc." anyway! :D

Adventure Awaits

To be honest, I was never really drawn into the story, just my preference of storylines. I’m sure this book will appeal to middle-grade boys. There is enough danger and excitement to keep their interest. I was most impressed with Scruggs and the growth seen in him throughout the story. I wish I could give this book 4.5 stars. It deserves more than 4 but not quite 5.

Told from the perspective of Jack, Treasure in the Yukon, in my opinion, felt just like his personality!

My praise about the book:
🤍I absolutely love Scruggs! (William) he is such a darling and his struggles are so real!
🤍The characters are quite charming as always.

My dislikes:
❌Didn't get into the bad guy's character as much as Tom Thumb.

5 star rating by my children. (Mom thinks a bit differently, but hey.) It was interesting and kept everyone's attention, that's for sure! Mystery. Hidden treasure. Lots of excitement. Great for ages 8-12 I'd say.
