First, I will start by saying that you don't need to have read the first two books of the series to love this novella and get into the story. In fact, it will only make you want to read them, because you will have fallen in love with the Goodes, with Aunt Polly, and with the gnomes!
For my part, as someone who has read the series, I always saw Jesse as the black sheep of the Goode siblings. How wrong was I! Reading her story showed me that she was, simply, completely misunderstood.
You will see that Jesse has the biggest heart imaginable and cares so deeply for her family! However, she is like some sort of boosted up empath, and I couldn't help but relate to her. Like her, I have the empath's gift of compassion, but also that of feeling other people's emotions and, sometimes, having total strangers telling me their lives. But there stops the resemblance between Jesse and I. Thankfully. This said, you will discover and love her as you read the novella, of this I have no doubt.
Then there is Mal. Gosh, that man is all sorts of amazing!
So yes, once again, Michelle M. Pillow has found the best recipe for an amazing story, one that I cannot recommend enough!
This story makes me equate inheritance to curse. Jesse is a witch in denial. When circumstances force her into accepting them chaos erupts. It's a fast twisty tale with a happy ending.

First comment is, I ADORE the cover! It is so colorful and sums up so much of the story in once glance! Jessie Goode is on her way to work, walking to the bus stop, when a man tries to introduce himself. Assuming he is a bill collector and refusing to be late for work at the restaurant, she denies she is Jessie and keeps on walking, immediately boarding the bus. She could have walked the few blocks, but didn’t want him following her. Unfortunately, he was seated at the table she was assigned to serve. Despite wearing a different nametag, she was unable to fool him. The man was Malachi Rhodes from MacIver Law in Lucky Valley, Colorado. He had called her and she changed her number. He needs to talk to her about the estate of Marigold Crawford Goode, her deceased mother. She flat-out refuses, she wants nothing from her mother who left her 3 children in a car to starve. She wanted no part of witchcraft, family magic, and ghost towns. She didn’t even believe in that stuff. But the lawyer still pushed, and her boss was irritated that she wasn’t making salads.
So Mal went out to sit in his car and watch her. She was in denial about her “gifts”. The Crawford and Goode families were descended from powerful witches, and both lines were in her ancestry. He felt like a stalker, but he couldn’t help the attraction he felt toward her. When Jessie’s Aunt Polly stopped to say hi to Mal, she then went inside the restaurant and her odd behavior got Jessie fired. But Polly knew why Mal was really here (a Pandora-like box that has started leaking) and that they needed stubborn Jessie to go with them to the Colorado estate… where her destiny awaits.
Jessie’s arrival in Lucky Valley starts the mayhem. Gremlins were awakened and are going wild destroying the town. Will Jessie’s magic awaken so she and her sister Lily can save the town? Even if the gremlins are not their fault, their family gets blamed for those things anyway, so they should probably take ownership for that. Will Jessie and Mal pursue a relationship? Will Jessie decide to stay there in Colorado now? (If I hint that things went back to “normal”, don’t assume that necessarily is a happy ending if you’re in Lucky Valley…)
I was going to say that this author’s writing is magic… but I wasn’t sure I should risk that. As always, this book and all of her others are well-written, fast-action, humorous, and well worth taking the time to read and enjoy. You won’t want to miss any of this series!
A Potion For Your Thoughts... “Road trip to your destiny,”
Jess is content with her life just how it is, that's not to say it's perfect, or even particularly good, but it's hers, and her crazy mother didn't mess it up. She's fine with her siblings accepting an inheritance and things that remind them of the past -- why can't everyone accept her choices?
Mal is a lawyer for her mother's estate, all too aware Jess' parents were Witches... it's no joke saying this woman is Magic. If only she would believe, accept, and understand her inheritance is about more than just money and property.
This is part of the Lucky Valley series... with beloved characters, and gnomes, returning, and Polly up to her antics and fun in spades, with a few new businesses and business ideas thrown in for hilarious good measure.
This done in one quick read is a huge amount of fun, full of memory jogs for the related books so I never found myself wishing I'd read them more recently, but instead was amazed how well each story had stuck with me, though some of that could be thanks to Herman and Polly.
I was gifted with a copy of A Potion For Your Thoughts (awesome title!) and chose to share my thoughts (no potion involved.)
Jessie wants no part of Lucky Valley or her mothers inheritance. But Aunt Polly, the force of nature that she is, blows into her life and with a well meaning part-Elf lawyer, whips Jesse back to Lucky Valley. Now Jessie has to fight off a horde of Gremlins, unneighbourly townfolk and an involuntary and intense attraction to her attorney!
Poor Jessie - that inheritance strikes more fear than Pandora's box!
I loved being back with the crazy inhabitants of these magical towns. There is always love in the air but it's not exactly easy to obtain. You never quite know if your allies are going to make things better or worse for you. Lets face it when Petey or Polly are involved Armageddon is always a potential outcome!
From Anthology to Novel. I actually read this novella A Potion for Your Thoughts within the anthology ‘Witching the Night Away’. It is regarding the youngest Goode sister Jesse and how she just doesn’t want to return to Colorado even though her mother passed, her mother’s negligence and trauma were severe. I totally get Jesse’s feelings of leaving bad things in the past and moving away from the hurt willing to live a healthy life. However fate and eccentric Aunt Polly with her familiar Herman the lobster are pulling the unwilling sister back into the fold. A story full of surprises and comedic adventures with the author’s trademark of comedy romance. A story that won’t disappoint and will make you smile.

Smoothly written, humorous sweet short romantic story set in a world where witchcraft and other unworldly phenomena can coexist quite simply with the earthly ones. However, Jesse doesn't feel like it at all, denies her origins and doesn't want to go back to her hometown to claim an inheritance, until the charming lawyer Mal comes to pick her up. Mal supports her and of course something beautiful blossoms between them. Standalone story, but there's a lot more to say about Jesse's family, and I have gotten curious about this series.

How lucky is Lucky Valley? Michelle M. Pillow has written other stories set in (Un)Lucky Valley, and this short story gives us Jessamine (Jessie) Goode as our main character. She is being forced to go to Lucky Valley to refuse an inheritance. Her aunt and sister both are living there, so she is staying with them. And she has a handsome hot half-Elf trying to help her with everything that is going sideways for her. I enjoyed this 3rd installment of the (Un)Lucky Valley series, and look forward to more tales of the strangeness that happens there. I was given an ARC through BookSprout, and this is my honest opinion.
A Potion for Your Thoughts is a lighthearted and witty look at witches, gremlins, and ghosts. Where witchy ways are inherited among families Jessamine Goode is reluctant to admit she could have abilities much less embrace them. And when Malachi Rhodes the lawyer that has been calling her to convince her to go to Colorado to accept her inheritance turns out to be a right handsome man maybe she can be tempted. Maybe. After all her beloved sister Lily and brother Dante are already there. Her wild journey is a hoot to read and a fun afternoon adventure.

The (Un)Lucky Valley series is such a delight that I was thrilled to read this novella. It's Jesse's story that starts in Spokane and ends....you know where. It revolves around her magic which yes, she technically always have had, however it was severely and quickly thrust upon her. It also has a sweet romantic aspect as well.
In this novella we get witches, a half elf, a half demon, GREMLINS, Aunt Polly, Herman and last but not least, garden gnomes!!
This is a total gem!!! Thank you Michelle M Pillow for another trip to (Un)Lucky Valley!
Michelle Pillow A Potion for Your Thoughts (part of Witching the night away) Jessie & Mal Jessie wanted nothing to do with the inheritance from her mother. It was Mal's job as the attorney to get her to sign the papers and open the bank box. She's related to two strong magical families. Something she doesn't believe in. Or does she? Some funny, some dangerous, characters, with lots for Jessie to deal with in a strange town. What's going to happen with her magic, her family, and so much more?
Jess has bad luck, she her kitchen sink burst, her car was stolen and set on fire, she looses her job.. Mal went to find Jess to talk her into accepting her inherents. He's part elf and gets attached easily. His heart chooses Jess and he'll do anything to protect her. As gremlins attack the town, it's Jess's powers that will save them all. Wonderful characters, family, love, magick, drama, and crazy aunt Polly really makes this book fun to read. I loved this book and the series is really good.

I haven’t read this series yet and after this novella, I am going to have to go get the books. Gnomes, gremlins and wacky relations in a town that blames your family for every bad thing that happens. Jesse has always denied her family heritage and said she would never go back to the town her family is from. Unfortunately she doesn’t have a choice. Loved Jesse and Mal, and the rest of her family. Can’t wait to grab the rest.
This was a cute story.. And of course as always Polly is a hoot! At first I felt bad for Jesse but after seeing her siblings and spending time with them.. you can sense the change. And I loved how she dealt with the gremlins! It was nice to follow along and watch her and Mal get to know each other and grow closer.. I hope to read more about them..

As a big fan of Michelle Pillow's, I read anything that she publishes. This novella, a trip back to Unlucky Valley, was wonderful! It was great to catch up with everyone, but it was especially nice to learn that Jesse is now reunited with her sister and brother, and accepting her magic! Loved everything except for the fact that the visit was too short. I am really looking forward to the next visit!.

This is Book 3 of (Un)Lucky Valley starring Jesse Goode, her family and Mal. What a great third book with all the wonderful things that magically happen will have you laughing, the auntie is a hoot I loved her best of all and her familiar too. Magic is a gift and a curse too but how you use it helps you understand the power of that gift. I loved this story.

I am a little short on time. Jesse family have been trying to get her to come to Lucky Valley for a couple of years. She has been stubborn about wanting nothing to do with what their mother left them. When Polly is finally able to get her there she starts to see how much she has missed her family. She learns that the box she has been avoiding is leaking powers & she has to go ahead & open it. It is a good story! I'm going to reread it again to make sure I didn't miss anything.
It is so good to see old friends and meet new ones in this short story. This is a continuation of a series that we were introduced to a little while ago but has me loving this story. The characters are lovable and there is lots of action that keeps the story flowing.

Jesse doesn't want to go home inheritance or not. Then lawyer Val shows up along with her aunt Polly and things go wild from there. Magic is a part of her life and will come for her eventually. This is a fun laugh out loud read. There are magical creatures galore to include gnomes, goblins, and werewolves. What a fun read!
Although Jesse really didn't want to return to her home town, the lawyer sent to speak to her convinced her that it was imperative. She only had to come and sign away her rights to her inheritance. Yeah right. Once there, it became clear that she had no choice in the matter. Her magic bloomed and only she could save the town.
What an enjoyable book, the storyline is filled with action and humor. The characters are fun and well written. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
This is a cute story with so many wonderful characters in addition to Mal and Jesse. From the quirky Aunt Polly to the sarcastic Mara, they all just fit together to make a fun story.

This is a review of Michelle Pillows book in this anthology and Jesse and Mal make a great paranormal couple trying to clean up the family ghost town, one gremlin attack at a time. Easy to ready with a few surprises. 4✨’s.

Quick trip to crazy town and reuniting with family. The author gives us a rollercoaster of a ride as the last sibling inherits her magic. There's more than one reason to celebrate though & I'm sure there will be more hijinks ahead.
I love how we finally got to see Jess and her have her story. I love this town and this weird family and seeing them grow and seeing the relationships. Very much so insta love but I don’t even care. And Aunt Polly, she is the absolute best!
