Smokescreen by Philip Michael Cooper is a fast-paced, high-stakes political thriller that takes readers deep into a web of international espionage, corporate greed, and government corruption. The plot kicks off when the world’s wealthiest man, Arthur Eckersley (the ruthless CEO of Xplore Industries), becomes dangerously obsessed with seizing control of Greece's highly prized bauxite mineral resources in the northern Macedonian region. To achieve this and effectively bankrupt the country for personal gain, Eckersley hires an elite band of mercenaries and a brutal criminal mastermind known as "The Fixer" to orchestrate chaos from the shadows. Standing directly in the way of this massive international conspiracy is the Greek Prime Minister, Alex Kalfas, who must team up with the head of the Greek elite anti-terrorist squad and Chris Horsman, the Athens CIA station chief, to fight an unprecedented war for his nation's sovereignty.
From a professional standpoint, the book shines brightest in its meticulous execution of geopolitical tension and financial intrigue. Cooper masterfully uses his deep understanding of global trade and international markets to anchor the plot in realistic economic stakes, ensuring that the conflict feels entirely plausible rather than cartoonish. The narrative moves at a relentless, pulse-pounding pace, keeping readers hooked through a clever balance of tactical military operations and sharp political chess matches. Furthermore, the author skillfully injects authentic cultural flavors of Greece and sharp, sarcastic dialogue that adds a welcome layer of personality to an otherwise grim, high-intensity storyline.
However, the novel does experience a few stumbles when it comes to deeper character development and narrative tension. While the progression of Alex Kalfas from his earlier, more reckless days into a mature, resilient Prime Minister is engaging, some of the supporting cast can feel slightly predictable, with their motives and actions following standard thriller archetypes too closely. This predictability occasionally dampens the story's overall suspense, making certain major plot twists feel foreseeable. Additionally, some of the romance and adult subplots feel detached from the main corporate warfare storyline, and a few dangling secrets are left unaddressed by the finale. Despite these minor narrative gaps, Smokescreen stands as a highly successful, gripping, and deeply intelligent thriller that perfectly captures the terrifying intersection of unchecked wealth and national security.

I just finished Smokescreen by Philip Cooper, and wow, what a ride! This book is a gripping blend of political drama, action, and a bit of economics, all set against the backdrop of Greece. The story follows Alex Kalfas, the Prime Minister, as he fights off powerful enemies determined to overthrow his government.
What I loved most was how Cooper balanced the intense action with deeper character development. Alex isn’t just a politician; he’s a father, a lover, and a man with a past. His relationship with Gitta is one of the highlights, showing a softer, more human side to him. Despite his flaws, he’s fiercely loyal to his country, making him a compelling protagonist.
The action sequences are some of the best I’ve read—so cinematic and detailed that I could visualize every fight, every chase, every explosion. The terrorist attacks were terrifyingly realistic, which made the stakes feel even higher.
There’s also an ongoing mystery about Cyclops—who is he? I have a strong feeling it might be Leonidas, the industry minister. The book also includes some detailed descriptions of Greece, which would make any travel lover appreciate it even more.

"Smokescreen" by Philip Cooper is a total page-turner! The story revolves around Alex Kalfas, the Prime Minister of Greece, as he fights off powerful enemies trying to take him down. From illegal mine deals to brutal assassinations, the book is packed with action, political drama, and just the right touch of economic insights.
Alex Kalfas is a character I truly admire. His transformation from a reckless womanizer to a strong leader and loving father makes him so relatable. His bond with Gitta adds depth to the story, making me root for him even more. The action scenes? Absolutely mind-blowing! I could literally picture them playing out like a movie.
One of the biggest mysteries is the identity of Cyclops—my guess? Leonidas, the industry minister. Also, I feel each chapter should start on a fresh page instead of continuing from the previous one. But overall, Cooper nailed it! This book deserves 5 stars, hands down. If you love action-packed political thrillers, this one’s for you!

This is truly a remarkable book! The story is set in Greece, where Prime Minister Alex Kalfas is trying to protect the peace he worked so hard to restore. The villain makes a lot of attempts to take over, to bring down the government. The mix of action, political drama kept me hooked the whole time.
I really admire Alex Kalfas’s character. I loved him in the first book. He is brave, caring, and willing to do whatever it takes to protect his country. His relationship with Gitta also develops in a positive way, which was great to see. There are a lot of intense moments, particularly with the violent attacks, but they were definitely exciting.
Overall, I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes action-packed political thrillers. If you enjoy politics, suspense, or Greek culture, this book is definitely worth reading.

Philip Cooper really knows how to write a compelling story. Rape of the Aegean was a thrilling mix of politics, espionage, and finance, with a well-paced plot that kept me engaged. The story focuses on Greece’s Prime Minister making a shady deal for mining rights, but the CIA steps in to stop him, leading to a game of deception and power plays.
One of the best things about the book was its attention to detail. The financial aspects were well explained, and the descriptions of Greece’s culture and landmarks added a lot of authenticity to the story. It felt like I was getting a mix of action, history, and education all in one book.
The characters were well-developed, especially Xenakis, who was an excellent villain. His greed made him the perfect antagonist. Alex was also a strong character, and I liked how his role evolved throughout the book.

I’ve just finished Smokescreen, and it was ah-mazing! This book is a follow-up to Rape of the Aegean. The prime minister of Greece, Alex, is doing everything he can to keep the country safe from a corrupt businessman, Eckersley, and his dangerous plans.
The plot twists really took me by surprise, especially when the prime minister’s life was at risk. Philip Cooper does an excellent job of blending action, politics, and even a little romance. The way he explains modern technology and its impact on the story was fascinating, and it kept me engaged.
The book is definitely a thrilling, action-packed read for anyone into political dramas, suspense, and a little romance. Just a heads-up, there are some mature themes in here, so it’s for older readers!

I didn’t expect to enjoy Rape of the Aegean as much as I did, but it really surprised me. The story is about Greece’s Prime Minister making a dirty deal with Germany and Russia while the CIA tries to stop him. Sounds simple, but the way Philip Cooper tells the story makes it intense and exciting.
Xenakis, the main villain, was probably my favorite character—he was greedy, selfish, and just the kind of guy you love to hate. The book also had a lot of cool details about Greece, from its culture to its historical sites, which made it even more interesting.
My only complaint? Some parts of the ending felt a little rushed, especially Alex’s transition to Prime Minister. But aside from that, it was a solid political thriller that kept me entertained.

What I loved most about Rape of the Aegean was how well the characters were developed. Xenakis, the corrupt Prime Minister, was the perfect villain—selfish, greedy, and willing to do anything for power. On the other hand, Alex was a character you could really root for.
The book also did a great job of blending politics, finance, and history. Even if you don’t know much about trading or economics, Cooper explains everything in a way that makes sense. The descriptions of Greece’s culture and monuments also made the setting feel rich and realistic.
There were a few minor issues, like the complex Greek names and some rushed moments at the end, but overall, this was a solid political thriller with a lot to offer.

If you love fast-paced political thrillers, Smokescreen is worth your time. It’s a story of greed, power, and survival, set in Greece. The Prime Minister fights to protect his country from a ruthless businessman who’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.
Eckersley, the villain, was brilliantly written—his actions were unpredictable, making every chapter more thrilling. The book had great action scenes, unexpected twists, and some cool tech that added to the excitement.
My only complaint? The ending. I think Eckersley should have been punished properly instead of just being killed off. Still, the book kept me hooked till the last page. Highly recommend it if you’re into action-packed political thrillers!

What I liked most was how Cooper mixed finance, history, and action. The only downside was that a few parts of the ending felt a little rushed. But overall, it was a great read with strong characters and an engaging plot.

Philip Cooper’s Smokescreen is pure adrenaline from start to finish! The political tension, assassinations, and high-stakes power struggle kept me hooked. Alex Kalfas, the Prime Minister of Greece, is a fantastic character—strong, smart, and protective of his country and family.
The action scenes are intense, and the way the terrorists operate made me anxious at times. The book also gives an interesting glimpse into Greece’s culture and politics, making it feel so real. My only issue? The chapters should start on new pages! But that’s a minor thing.

Philip Cooper’s Rape of the Aegean is a gripping political thriller that dives into the corruption behind Greece’s economic crisis. The Prime Minister, instead of helping his country, strikes a shady deal with Germany and Russia to benefit himself. But things get complicated when the CIA infiltrates his inner circle to stop him.
What I loved most was the mix of action, finance, and Greek culture. The financial aspects were explained well, and the twists kept me hooked.

This was an Alex Kalfas thriller, and I thought it was very good. From the beginning, I could picture the story in my head, and I thought the author did an excellent job of creating an atmosphere and bringing the story to life. Once I started turning the pages, I didn't really stop, and I read it all in one sitting. A pretty gripping read.
