Riesce a far mantenere l'attenzione sui personaggi e meno all'ambiente circostante.

I forgot that this wasn't a one-shot, so I was a little surprised to get to the end with the characters making very little progress. But I'm looking forward to seeing how they start communicating with each other in the second (final) volume.

Furuya is just a really solid writer. Great at developing beautiful relationships in a short amount of space, able to really convey an intense sense of longing just through expressions and silences and space in the panels.

The drama in this one is pretty much self-imposed by Yusei; he's been in love with his childhood friend, Itsuki, for a while, but he's doing his best to pretend that he isn't, in order to drive the feelings out. I don't exactly know what he's scared of - is he that convinced that Itsuki is straight? Does he just not want to deal with having to face the emotions head on? But he's pulling away from Itsuki in an attempt to create some distance between them so he can get over these unwanted feelings.

Itsuki clearly cares about Yusei, but Yusei seems to think that his smart, athletic, popular, talented friend is just using him as a sort of easy "pet" to drag places and do whatever he wants. To be fair, Itsuki does treat him a bit like that, and even laughs and agrees when their friends call Yusei "whipped." It's not fair to Yusei and I'd hope Itsuki would start giving back as much as he gets. Maybe he thinks he is? He used to, when they were kids.

I don't know what the whole deal is with Itsuki's older brother and why he's actively avoiding him. Did something happen between them in the past?

I loved the awkward sadness of the double date at the amusement park, and how gentle and caring Itsuki was when Yusei got sick after. It was more like when they were little, when Yusei was often ill and Itsuki was constantly finding beautiful things in the world around them to share with him.

The pacing and tone of this volume is great, and it could be a favorite if it concludes well.

This may not be Furuya's best work, but I still liked how she depicted the precarious balance between her two leads. Yusei's conviction of wanting to stamp his feelings down for Itsuki pairs well with the flashbacks to them as kids. It makes sense why they're still close even as the former feels denying their romantic potential means it can't possibly happen. However, I'd argue the latter reciprocates if some panels are any indication.

There are some subplots that aren't resolved here I'm hoping to see come back next volume. Why is there strain between Itsuki and his older brother? Will we get to see the girls who went on that double date again, thereby addressing how we hide queerness growing up? The translation also used some slang terms that read awkward or dated, which I had minor quibbles with.

I quite enjoyed this, enough to feel compelled to read it back to back. Something about the struggle with internalized homophobia, the fear and need to conceal a secret by lashing out in the opposite manner. Very compelling! And the two leads orbit around each other in a very beautiful manner, it’s really cute. They care about each other so much even if they show it in very different ways. A basic story but I liked it. I love that the mc the reader follows is the stoic one too, and not the anime-protagonist-esque one, I feel like it’s usually the opposite case.

Okay but… what is a stradivarius? I googled it and got… string instruments. What could that have possibly meant in context of their conversation 😭 some of the translation felt funky I can’t lie. Also practically no speech bubbles had dialogue direction indicators, so often times it got confusing who was talking.

I enjoy Nagisa Furuya's writing, but like this should've just been one chunkier volume instead of stretching it into two. It just didn't feel like much happened except story set up and vague talking around things. It's a bit frustrating that I have to wait for the second one. This whole first volume could've easily been condensed imo or if they didn't want to condense it just combine the two. The volume was so short. It just feels so unnecessary. I don't mind the story or set up itself, but as its own volume it feels like a let down. I will still be picking up volume two though. Maybe I should've waited to read both together.

I really like the way that the overall feeling(s) of yearning and longing are portrayed in this; you really could sense it between the characters through the volume. I also liked seeing the short flashbacks to Yusei and Itsuki’s childhood, along with some commentary about their dynamic from their friends/classmates. Those moments did a good job of “setting the scene” for their childhood friends to lovers arc that I’m sure will happen in the next and final volume. Lastly, I’m very curious to find out about is the tension between Itsuki and his older brother and how their strained relationship came to be.

First of a two volume series of Manga about 'frenemies' Yusei and Itsuki. Since kindergarten they've been BFFs, but now in their teens, Yusei is struggling to curb deeper feelings about popular Itseki. Itseki doesnt seem to be worried about his feelings for Yusei, yet Yusei tries repeatedly to rebuff Itsuki. Their classmates are all guessing different things, and a double date at the fair with two girls hasn't helped remedy their confusion. Beautifully illustrated, low-key and 'sweet' in content and tone, aimed at older teens. Final volume to follow.

“Yuusei.”
“What?”
“Just wanted to call your name.”

4 stars - short but cute. I really like Yuusei, but that’s probably very biased since I related to him quite a lot (even his love of writing I was like aww). Itsuki seems okay but I can’t tell whether he knew that Yuusei liked him the entire time or not. Glad this only has one other volume TvT.

Ahhhhh! The yearning. And that ending. And now I have to wait for December for more!

It didn’t matter what I did. Itsuki was always destined to be the centre of my world. Even when I tried to change that... I probably never stood a chance from the very beginning.

This manga has a slow pace but I didn't mind that. The love intresting is interesting (especially the family conflict) - but the main character not established well enough. The world also feels a bit empty

My first Nagisa Furuya read. Glad I picked both the volumes coz the first ends in a cliff hanger.

Sensei’s quaint paced narrative from yusei’s pov worked well for me. I could never figure out what Itsuki’s thinking even till the cliffhanger.

I love Furuya so I'm ready for vol 2 to kick my butt. Vol 1 left me with more questions than answers but I really value when an author doesn't take the easier and trodden route to melodrama.
