The world was adapting to global pandemics; it affected all aspects of our lives. Some of us, it helped; more of us, it hurt. We had a new normal, and how we lived and worked had changed. I wasn't blind to the unexpected good fortune which befell me, nor was I unaware of the suffering of others. Now I had a new job and a great place to live and a workplace crush which brightened up my existence; it was a shame he was dating someone else. I also had a problem; another colleague who had chosen me to harass, and a boss who seemed to look the other way.
Former high school teacher and university lecturer, Suze E Prescot (aka Essey Nelson) has lived and worked in Lancashire (according to its original boundaries) her whole life. She loves cats and horses, and is, in fact fond of all animals. She loves reading, often reading five or more stories a week. She has no fave type of story, and her bookshelves boast detective and mystery, crime and spy, science fiction and fantasy, and plenty of humour. From Shakespeare, Austen and the Brontës, to modern indie authors, if its well-written, she will read it. Despite her catholic tastes, she tends to write romance, and will happily argue that most fiction falls under that banner. Her heroes are strong and wonderful men - on the inside at least! While her heroines are intelligent, capable, yet often naïve and pure whatever their age.
Loved it! Another thoroughly enjoyable story from Suze! This book seriously had me hooked from page 1. It's a quick read with a bit of mystery and a twist I didn't see coming. It's a one-sitting page-turner with a sweet, romantic element between Gray and Mags. Thumbs up and 5 stars!
This is a short story, so the storyline is naturally limited, and yet the apocalyptic-esk world building is done so well, you feel like you’ve read a much bigger book. Maybe it’s so easy to relate to this new world because the author entwines the description with the description of people’s characters – people behave the same even if the world we live in has changed.
If this little story is a taster of the author’s writing style, then sign me up!
A great short read! The story's setting is a world after a virus and the challenges it brings to everyone. The FMC character (Mags) has to navigate her day to day life along with the obstacles presented at her job due to the virus. There is romance, mystery, some "mean girl" drama, and an unexpected ending. (I didn't see it coming).
Oh wow! I loved this book! The mystery had me on pins and needles. I didn’t see the twist coming at all. I love books that surprise me with the plot. It’s a fantastic short read. Definitely recommend it!
A future where social-distancing is the norm, and where a business is losing money. Mags finds herself trying to unravel the mystery while avoiding a predator.
