I love returning to Addison, Connecticut every winter with Joanne DeMaio's Winter Series novels. Winter Road marks the 7th book in the series, and I've loved all 7! There is something very comforting about these novels. I've always wanted to live in a small village, but I'd want characters like the ones in Addison to reside in my imaginary village. Though I don't drink, I'd frequent the pub that our main character, Joel, owns. It's a gathering place where friends come for a good meal, games nights, and events like sweeping out the old year with your whisk broom made by Joel's parents. It's during this event that Joel first meets Faye, who is in tears thinking over her awful year.
Several months later, Faye buys the house next door to Joel, and a beautiful friendship begins. Joel and Faye's friendship is the kind of friendship anyone would envy. Joel is so thoughtful and understanding. Faye appreciates and reciprocates with her own sweet gestures. I absolutely adored them! I also enjoyed "meeting up" with several Addison residents who are in the prior books. They don't play major roles, and you can read Winter Road without having read any of the others. Though, as with Winter Road, they are delightfully charming, and I recommend them.
Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and Winter Road did not disappoint! Of course, you never want to ruin a friendship, sometimes it's worth the risk. This is not a closed door romance, but there is just one brief open door encounter. If you're not a fan of open door romance, you can just skip ahead a couple of pages! This book is so worth reading!
I highly recommend Winter Road for its cozy, quiet village atmosphere, its beautifully written characters, and its lovely friends to lovers romance story. I loved everything about it!
